Why do people prefer Microsoft and Sony over Nintendo?

Sure, Nintendo is eating their dust when it comes to online, but Microsoft and Sony are way too behind when it comes to local multiplayer and single player, judging from shooting games (which most have no splitscreen, there fore no local multiplayer) and no P1 vs CPU option for fighting games, which means most have very shallow single player content. Heck, I was at Los Angeles last week for a vacation. Did I have online at all? No. Would Nintendo be better at that time? Yes.

(I'm only judging from topics like these two. I hardly play any video game that's not Nintendo).

They prefer Sony and Microsoft because they aren't just family oriented games. It's for more mature gamers, who are up for seeing gore and guns. Sure, Nintendo side is fun sometimes, but Nintendo is too focused on helping you game with your mom than working for genres for all age groups. Also, no 1P vs CPU in fighting games? I don't know of one fighting game that doesn't on ANY system. Marvel vs Capcom 3, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, Street Fighter, Tekken, BlazBlue, every one of them has the option.

I meant "Free Play against the CPU, you can choose settings and which character the CPU controls" instead of the annoying "Set up Training Mode and do the settings yourself, missing out on the victory screens" stuff.

This whole statement is pretty much the answer, most people prefer to be playing with guns than coins and fireballs. A lot of people love more mature games, and those work very well on PS3 and 360.

Online Multiplayer with friend and shooters are all I can think of. (Some people I know even say that's why they're better... :what:)

I know it's true with my older brother ~ he has directly told me one "No point playing Xbox with my friends here ~ would rather play on the Wii"

...umm, but yeah, it's also because people like shooting things...
(Example ~ only reason my younger cousin wants an Xbox is to play Halo and shoot and kill things... seriously?)

This is the answer for me as well. I just play by myself or with friends; My family isn't interested in gaming.

Nintendo games have no challenge to them because they want everybody to be able to enjoy their games without having to get stuck and quit at a difficult spot, hince the invincibility leaves on 3D Land and the upcoming games. Challenges are what make games entertaining, or at least for me, and their games just don't compete with what Sony and Microsoft offer. And I hate when Nintendo fanboys say the 360 and PS3 are just for shooters because they do have more than just that. It's their variety of genres/games that they offer that attracts people to their consoles. I love playing sports games, RPG's, games like LittleBIGPlanet, racing, action-adventure, and yes, shooters (like FF's, Madden, NHL, Fallout, NFS, Forza, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, R&C, Jak & Daxter), so you can't say they just focus on shooters...

Also, Sony and Microsoft have superior online services, like XFINITY, HBO, ESPN, etc. Their online gaming experiences are better as they fix bugs with their online and they take care of hackers unlike Nintendo does with the people on MKW, SSBB, etc. They have DLC that helps enhance their games and have many more additional stuff, like avatars, themes, gamer pics, achievements/trophies and more. The consoles are more customizable to the way you want them to be instead of all being uniform.

It's features like those that have people prefering the 360 and PS3 over the Wii.

That's not all, but what I could think of while sitting here and typing all this out. :p

Xbox and paying for online. No thank you!

The PS3 is king/queen of fighters. Systems like the Wii just lack when it comes to the genra.
I agree, paying to have a feature that should be free is bull; They need to have it like Sony's where you get the benefits of free games, DLC, themes, pics, and the discounts.

Everyone I know says they play those consoles just for shooters. :what:
They don't classify as the whole gaming population. :p They do have some awesome shooters, but I'm just expressing that there is much more than one genre that those consoles offer, like my examples posted earlier.

Another thing I forgot to mention is the constant updates that they have for the systems to improve stability and additional features. People also prefer HD graphics for gaming. I don't care much for graphics though. I don't have an HDTV either. :p

In terms of consoles, Nintendo just didn't have the 3rd party support they need with the Wii. Many 3rd party games went unsupported due to lack of marketing or the fact that most of the market is made up of the casual players that were drawn in with the release of games like WiiFit or Just Dance.

In terms of games, I still think Nintendo is doing pretty strong but their games are becoming rather redundant due to the lack of new IPs. I would say Sony did rather well this generation because of all the new IPs they released(Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, and Infamous).

Oh you guys are overreacting, it's not that bad, I only pay like a three dollars for a quarter of the year. And all that money they get for it help them make their online better.

I just think they should have free online multiplayer since we are spending $60 on the games. It's not worth the money to be able to play online, imo, I'd rather spend the money on getting other games.

Well, I guess I'm fine with it because I don't tend to play online.

I kind of break the system, when I go offline or switch to silver, I wait a while, like a couple months or weeks, and I have other games so it's no problem, then a special like deal pops up on the starting screen and it says oh do you want $1 for one month, $2 for 2, or $3 for 3? The point is that it's supposed to start cheap then go to normal price on auto-renewal, but I turn auto-renewal off and that's how I do it.

I totally agree with this statement. I own both PS3 and Wii. They are both great in their own way. Each of them give a different gaming experience. One of the things that made Sony really great this last generation is the fact that they made a lot of new games, different stories, characters, environment. While Nintendo kept the same old characters, which is not totally a bad thing. Personally I prefer Sony since it gives me what I want, the games I like and it's not redundant (there are some exceptions though :p). Nintendo is great in what it does, but lately, I've kinda been disappointed.
