It is claimed that on November 10, 1775, the United States Marine Corps was founded by Commandant Samuel Nicholas in a Philadelphia tavern known as Tun Tavern, where Nicholas enlisted two battalions of Marines to fight the British. Oo-rah!

It's not the mascot of the Harvard Drama Club. It is, however, the new mascot for the Southern Utah University. The school said that they chose the small rodent because they were a small school and, like the prairie dog, they must work fast and forage hard to succeed.

Huge brewery vats of beer broke apart at the Meux and Company Brewery, causing nearby buildings to collapse and basements and streets to flood with over 300,000 gallons of beer. Eight people died that day in 1814, some drowned in basements full of beer, and others under the rubble of the destroyed buildings. The court ruled it was an "act of God" and declared the brewery free from all responsibility for the disaster.

This sea lettuce is high in vitamin B and supplies a lot of fiber and protein, so if you like seaweed you're going to love dulse.

Funkotriplogynium iagobadius is the scientific name for a subtropical and tropical rainforest mite that is found in fungi that grow in rotting or dead trees. The name honors the King of Funk, James Brown. Iago means James and badius means Brown, and everyone knows what Funk means!

In 2008 Palm Sunday fell on March 16th, so it's true that St. Patrick's Day can come after Palm Sunday. But, this is not exactly true because in 2008 the calendar was adjusted so that St. Patrick's Day was celebrated on March 14th. Fortunately, this problem will not reoccur until the year 2160!

Kipling, a golf enthusiast, invented snow golf, based on the Dutch game played in the Middle Ages called kolf. He devised the game while he was in Vermont in the early 1890s writing The Jungle Book. He painted the golf balls red, and the golf holes were replaced by red cups. Did birdies become penguins?
