The evidence for release dates are all over the place. Nintendo says that it will release sometime before the end of fiscal year March 2011, which means anytime between April 1st 2010 to March 31st 2011. April, May, June, July and August are most likely not release times because Nintendo would have said something at E3. Even though most say 2011 as likely, there is one territory that will get it this year, and Japan seems unlikely for a couple reasons. 1, Nintendo took a poll on how many DS owners would actually want to get a 3DS, only 8% who owned a DS and actually wanted an upgrade, and Nintendo always wants the largest sales possible for the first couple months of release. 2. there are a couple of games that are slated for TBA 2010 and some of those games always release in NA first or never release in Japan at all, unless they push those games back for some reason. 3. Releasing the 3DS during the time of Pokemon Black & White release in the fall for Japan would be bad because it could hurt a potential big seller for DS. There are also reports from a newspaper in the UK citing Nintendo that the UK will be getting in in March while North America gets it in September, but I'm doubting it because Nintendo would have said something at E3. Anyway, what do you people think the release date will be?

I'm hoping it comes out in the fall. It would be really cool to start playing it sooner. It might take until October or November until we see them come out. Just have to hope it comes out soon.
I think it will come out in the fall or winter (December) in the US. Why? Cuz I think since Christmas is near then, more people would buy it for there kids and stuff. (Though 250 is alot for a handheld...)
Spring 2011 is very unlikely, seeing how there are ony about 10 - 12 days of Spring in March 2011. So I'm guessing it will most likely be released for the Holiday Season, or within the first two months of 2011. Spring 2011 would be difficult because like you said, madstarr, Pokemon Black & White will be released soon after. Black & White are slated for a Spring 2011 release.
I think between late December (Before Christmas) to Early March.
For my sake the 3DS might be released in Fall 2010. Most video game sales happen in the Fall/Winter seasons so that might be why it will be released by then.
I think it will be released during the 2010 holiday season, probably after Thanksgiving but before Christmas. That would make the most business sense with sales figures.
I believe the 3DS will come out in the US sometime around Spring 2011.
Today, Reggie Fils-Aime announced that we should expect 3DS to be global by March 31, 2011. Lol, this has been said like thousands of times since its announcement in March 23. But he still hasn't announced an exact date yet, so the possibility for a 2010 release is still possible for regions like Japan or maybe the US. That's how it was for the original DS, it was fully revealed in E3 2004 showing off a prototype and the target for having all markets to have DS available was March 2005. The original DS released in the US in November 21, Japan in December 2, and in Europe until March 11 of 2005. The same trends are going on. They said that it is a new handheld (not a revision), they announce in E3 with a basic idea on how the final version will look, they announced some games, they had demo's available at the show floor, and they again said that by March, all markets will have their hands on 3DS. I hope the trend for 3DS goes like the trend DS went through.

Given "by March 31 2011", I would think they'd have it in the US by the major holiday season (Thanksgiving and Christas etc.) No idea for JPN or PAL regions >_>

OMG I hope so! It just makes more sense to do it that way, so hopefully, that's the date...

Hmm, I had a thought. Nintendo would be big IDIOTS if they release January/February/March, because of the bad economy. If they DO release in Q1 2011, the peoples' wallets would literally be empty because of the Holiday shopping season. Who would still have money in Q1 after the holidays? Not many people, maybe those few who have not faced the economic problems, but if they expect a large market at that time, they would be mistaken. Unless they intend to have 3DS not have a big sales period at launch, launching in early 2011 would make them lose a lot of profit.
