New Xbox 720 wont play used games

The new xbox is said to be unable to play used games. Quite frankly I find this to be god awful. You spend $60 or so on a game and the minute you beat it instead of selling it you either throw it away or let it collect dust in your game collection. It becomes worthless. If this is the future of video games I may not even bother buying the new consoles.

Here's an ign article where the a Saints Row developer (see why I hate this series) says its a good thing. Well yes it may be good for companies but think of the rest of us.. Microsoft is signing its death sentence with this if it actually happens.

Well what is considered a "used" flag and where is said flag info stored? If on the disc or whatever media the game's in, then it's perfect suicide for gaming companies that support such a shift. If the flag is on the console no doubt the hacking scene will overrun it but still...

Companies who think that one-use only games are cool have their heads screwed way too loose :p And XB720 tentatively having this ...smh

It seems that everything could be going in the wrong direction this year: The SOPA and PIPA could later on pass and censor the internet, Microsoft possibly making their next console unable to play used games, and the elections...that I don't care about, nor do I listen to. Man, big things are going to possibly happen that will destroy the electronics world.

Amazon and their sellers would lose big money with this, along with GameStop and every other store that sells pre-owned. Might as well just go back to retro gaming than put up with this crap. How does Microsoft think they could profit with this? The majority of gamers wouldn't even wanna buy the console due to that setback, from what I've read on various sites, and the companies that sell used games would cease to make business with them and Microsoft would lose profits they get from game stores. I don't get it, they should know that it's going to fail, just like the PSP Go with the digital-only games, but now revolving around new games and unplayable used games. If they go ahead with it, they're going to see what their big mistake was. It'll change the face of Microsoft.

Yeah, this is pretty stupid. However, I don't really buy pre-owned content, anyway, so it wouldn't matter much. But yeah, these will kill GameStop and others, like Chubbo said. Microsoft may be doing this for more money.

Agreed 100%. It's pretty damn ridiculous, but it doesn't really affect me. I never really buy used games.

I can definitely see it being a problem for A LOT of people, though.

Thanks for this post.Because you aware me from this xbox product. Before reading your post i don't know  about this thing.May be xbox 720 is a worst product of Xbox gaming.

The only used games I buy are games from older systems, usually I buy new for my 360 and Wii, but if I see a game I didn't have and wanted to play it's nice not to pay an arm and a leg for a game I'll most likely beat and never play again. It is my right as a consumer to resell anything I buy. It's ridiculous how they can even think of doing this. It monopolizes the gaming industry.

Exactly. When the article said, "Jameson Durall has spoken out about the rumor, calling the idea 'fantastic'", I fell down; literally. The stupidity is just too much lol

I don't know how someone can think this idea is fantastic, unless you like losing half your audience.

Let's say this does end up happening.  If you ever wanted a copy of Halo 5 (just as an example), you'd have to buy it fairly new, otherwise every new copy will be gone and you could only play it on someone else's console who did happen to buy it new.  There might also be a shortage of the physical game discs.  High demand for a low supply drives prices up, which will discourage people from buying games.  If more copies of Halo 5 are produced to accommodate for demand, more money has to be spent on the side of the game companies to make these game discs.  This means they probably won't make as much money, which no company likes.

Also, used games are actually advertising themselves.  Let's say that you got MP4 at Gamestop for $10 used, and you'd never played Mario Party before.  You ended up loving MP4 so much that you got 5-8 and are now going to buy MP9 the day of release.  That used MP4 generated a sale of MP9 for Nintendo, which makes them more money, which they like.

Whoever thinks locking consoles from used games is a good idea has no clue of how a business is run.
