Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash

Look, people hate on new characters solely because veterans didn't make it in.

I mean, look at Honey Queen's reception, and then look at what Mario Kart 7 omitted. Personally, Honey Queen never deserved the hate she got. She's a unique character, a female, fat bee, and people love to hate her because she's a weird addition. I like her, and I wanted her to return in later Mario Kart games, but I'm sad she never made it back to Mario Kart 8. I still won't understand why people would hate her, and then clamor for "unique" characters even when she fully meets the criteria for one.

Same deal with Sprixie. She's not a bad choice, it's mostly because of who didn't make it in rather than who's there. If characters like Diddy Kong or Shy Guy or whatever made it alongside Sprixie, she would have less hate. Same deal with Honey Queen if Mario Kart 7 included more characters.

Granted, I'd rather they return Baby Mario and add Baby Luigi, but I'm not going to hate on Sprixie because she "took" their spot. She didn't.

Now I kinda wish they had gone all out with the 3D World tribute and included Plessie and a villain like maybe Motley Bossblob(Remember that dude? He's really cool!) as playable characters alongside Sprixie.

Sticking with the theme, they could have expanded the item gimmick so that it included more items than just the Mega Mushroom. For instance Double Cherry would give you clones to cover more area, Boomerang Flower would give you the ability to reach missed or out of range shots, the Super Bell would turn you into an agile cat version of your character and so on.

They could even have had a court set on the Money Train from that game, where the gimmick is trying to get as many coins as you can or something.

I know that's all "pie in the sky" now but I feel like these things would not have been outside the realm of possibility for a Camelot Mario Sports game that wasn't being rushed out for the holidays.

Personally I hated Honey Bee. She was bland and uninteresting to me. She was, what, a side character who appeared on one planet? I'd much rather Waluigi be put in. The only thing I found interesting about Honey Bee was that she was a heavy female character, but I mostly play light characters (unless they're ones I like, like Wario or Bowser), so that was meaningless.

But tastes are tastes and it's pointless to argue that one character is aesthetically better than another, so...

I remember Motley!
Oh wow, so much time...
I actually would've loved him in.

Full site is now open!

One page says there are five new characters plus returning favorites. However, only three new characters are shown. Rosalina, Toadette, and Sprixie. It could be there are two more new characters coming via DLC or some sort, but we do not know.

In that sense, DLC is possible, and even so, don't count Diddy Kong or Birdo, because they are not "new."

When will we finally get a playable Bob-omb? :p

Thank God Waluigi is in, though.

Or intentionally done for publicity purposes.
I don't think that's the case. Nintendo doesn't do that so much. I think the roster is all we're going to get.  :'(

Also, my thoughts on this game:
It LOOKS great, and the characters look full of personality if you know what I mean. Take the winning poses for example, and especially when you run after scoring a point your character will skip or run. It just seems to fit each character's personality even despite the fact not much are in the game. XD I think a lot better characters could have made it. Also, I think the Mega Mode looks fun, but it stinks it was the only thing they added. Chance shots were kinda meh to me, but I don't mind them. All in all this game looks like it could be a lot of fun, but not for long. I may get it, but it doesn't look likely. The Online mode may sustain it for some time, but if it's anything like Open's internet connection then I'm not getting it. No one ever plays online Mario Tennis: Open, I've literally sat waiting for at least 20 minutes That's all I have to say. :)
