Advent

Advent is similar to Lent, but is shorter and takes place in much of December. It can start as early as November 27 to as late as December 3. There has to be 4 Sundays before Christmas. So we are starting on November 29 this year.

Are you going to give up anything for this time period?

I don't really do much for Advent...

We use to light up candles every Sunday which I think were Love, Joy and two others.

I'm going to give up Windows 7 Home Premium... forever. Other than that, I don't give up anything during those periods.

Um...I think you give up stuff for Lent but I didn't know you give up stuff for Advent too,but all I do is light up the wreath with four candles and sing Advent songs.

Not all Catholics give up for Advent. However, some do, like SZ.

Well, I'm having a mid-term exam during Advent... so it's basically studying at the start of Advent.
But when school works over, I'm going to get prepared for christmas and vacation.

Yes, the 40 days (46 if you count Sundays) before Easter is called Lent.

Anyways I don't really do anything during Advent.

During church, there are four candles and they lite a new one up every Sunday for the season. I go to a Christian church by the way. I didn't know people gave things up for that time period. You learn things every day I guess

Advent starts this coming Sunday, and what's worse is that SZ still abstains electronics like before. Another thing that's worse is that we have one more day of Advent than we had last year.

Sunday, November 28, 2010 is when it begins, and Friday, December 24, 2010 at evening is when it ends, at least for SZ.

What are you doing this time around? Going to church?

It's more of a Catholic thing like lent.  I've never heard of any other denomination observing it. Although I could be wrong. The big thing here is that SZ will be gone still. I really wish that he'd come on.. This is ridiculous.

Doesn't seem that hard. Light up the first pink candle across from the purple candle, until the next Sunday, you light up two pink candles, third Sunday, you light up two pink and the purple. By the fourth Sunday, you light up all candles. You still have to do this throughout the week and do a prayer. It's easy work. Only times we don't is probably when we go out to dinner.
