Paper Mario: Sticker Star

Woah boy, let's talk about this one.

Almost everyone agrees that it is bad, but I do not. Note: I'm not saying it's great, I am simply saying it is good. After Super Paper Mario successfully changed the PM series, it was somewhat expected they'd go a different direction (cuz Nintendo). It is a perfectly fine game, the only reason it's hated is because it isn't TTYD. Deal with it, fanboys.

What about you? Do you think it's good or bad?

I've thought of getting this game, absolutely LOVED Super Paper Mario. Wish Nintendo would make another. What's so bad about Sticker Star?

When I first saw this game, I thought it would be like PM (original) and TTYD. At that time the only Paper Mario game that I played was SPM (don't get me wrong, I love that game) and I was excited to play the game that would return to its roots. Then, when I bought it and played it to the end, I was like "seriously, Miyamoto?". It lacked many things that the other games had. A plot, partners, experience, characters (the only new one was Kersti, and that's it. We already know everybody else.), the Merlon clan, etc., etc....
It's not a bad game by itself, yeah, but for a Paper Mario game, it was utterly dissapointing...

I bought Sticker Star and I think it's pretty good. Granted, limited stickers are a pain, but otherwise it's been pretty damn fun so far.

Seems like it's a case of 'people's expectations are the only problem' to me. :p

The battles were unnecessary but I always battled just for the fun of it. Unless you've watched a walkthrough, you might get stuck in some areas due to the game lacking hints, though.

Absolutely awful game This is Paper ****ing Mario, not New Super Mario Bros. 256. Honestly, the previous games had gotten gradually larger-scale in plot until PLOP. Typical Bowser-kidnaps-Peach plot. That was excused back in the first game because it wasn't milked to death, and wasn't following an awful formula that forbids original characters and plot.

This piece of atrocious garbage just won't fade into obscurity fast enough. Why did Sticker Star have to be the one to dominate 2/3 of the Smash stage and be the basis for the Paper world in Paper Jam? Why couldn't all this Paper Mario love have happened after Super Paper Mario instead? Then we might have seen some decent returning characters.

I was too generous when I reviewed this game for my YouTube channel. I actually recommended it despite giving it a mediocre score. Well guess what folks I still recommend it because everyone deserves to know the atrocity a once-great series has become. Words can't do it justice.

Yeah, I mean, I can see why people might be disappointed. But if you just pick it up with an open mind and no hype whatsoever it's actually pretty good. Looks good, reminds me of SPM, and is pretty decent besides AAAAAA NO REASON TO BATTLE.

And I dunno about you guys but I totally squeed when I saw that Luigi in the Goomba Fort. :p

I think that mostly comes from the title of "Paper Mario". :p
Exactly. That's the only reason it gets hate. It's a great game, just not a true Paper Mario game.

The same problem people had with Federation Force.

It kinda irks me that they prefer to use an IP not related to this instead of making an original, thus intending to piggyback the success of a franchise that should have nothing to do with the game.

It's clearly related to Paper Mario, though. Super Paper Mario lacked Paper Mario's original gameplay, turning it into a (mostly) platformer, and managed to be a good game. They tried the same thing with Sticker Star. Just with a whole lot less success.
