In a Nintendo press conference today, President and CEO Satoru Iwata announced today that development for MP9 has taken a start, and that plans for making a MP for the new handheld, the 3DS. MP9 will be a complete overhaul to the MP series, getting rid of the boards and making it into an RPG-styled game that is sort of like chess, except it contains the minigames that you veterans know and love. Also, Link, Samus, and even Sonic are making cameo appearances in the games and it was revealed that Sonic would have his own board. Ninty is not sure if they are going to show MP9 at this year's E3, but might release a trailer this July.

3DS MP has been yet to reveal any new details.

Wow. This might actually be good for the series.

But Sonic? Man, don't be combining him into every single Mario spinoff game. >.<

I don't care if Sonic's in the game, I just want to see the game out and see how fun it is. I hope this is true and that we see one in the future. I can tell that this game would be better than Sonic Shuffle, from what I've seen. I hope the complete overhaul will be better than how Mario Party 8 was. We'll have to see...good luck Nintendo.

Meh, I'm not going to make assumptions until I see the game itself. But i'm just saying that adding Sonic is a huge mistake on Nintendo's part. And what about Sega? They're names should of been mentioned.

Hudson Soft is a subsidiary of SEGA, so it probably wouldn't matter if they listed them or not.

Prototype box art found on Ninty's E3 Press Release:

Probably not the final version since the "9" is omitted. (In the Press Release)

No Sonic on the box art means that he must be an unlockable character.

And Lakitu is confirmed to be a player.

Ok, you guys are so ignorant. You want to see proof? I'll give your PROOF:
