How To Play Custom Boards?

Don't use Project 64 first but the PartyPlanner website: http://partyplanner64.github.io/PartyPlanner64/
Then, load the ROM of the correct Mario Party game (must be USA version)
And select the "Overwrite" option to remplace a board with the custom one and click, "Save ROM".
After that, load the ROM (with Project 64 version 2.3) and one small details.
Go in "Options, Parameters" and "Config. Mario Party 1/2/3" and select "8Mo" for the memory size of the ROM.
Aaand that's it, you're all set to play!!!  :-D

Are you absolutely sure that:

Your board has no errors in it that could cause the game to crash? If you have "Skip overwrite validation" enabled, disable that and it should tell you if there's something wrong with your board in the dropdown menu for overwriting a board.

You set the memory to 8 MB? Check again to make sure, maybe you clicked "ok" but not "apply."

I definitely have no errors in my board, I checked it out myself. And yes, I do have it on 8 MB.

If it's version 1.6, it's most likely not gonna work. So also check if it's version 2.3 or not  :p
I just checked and, I'm using 1.6. I'm updating right now.
EDIT: Updated Project64, but it still gives same results. The only other problem I could think of would be that the original MP3 ROM I got was a .n64 file, but I don't THINK that would make a difference since PartyPlanner read it just fine. Now I'm just getting the black screen which is a minor improvement I guess?
EDIT 2: I opened up the unmodded MP3 and same results. It opens up just fine in 1.6 so I don't know why this is happening.
EDIT 3: Never mind, I just needed to restart Project64! Works fine now... except for this flickering problem. If you know how to solve that, please tell me. It's kind of annoying to play with things flickering a lot.
