What's a Star or Level in a Mario Game Which You Could Never Beat?

When I used to live in my old town, I went to a library where you could rent video games. I always got SMG2. I played it 100% until I played The Chimp's Coin Challenge on Slimy Spring Galaxy. Got every star except that one, which hindered me from the Green Stars. Never beat it. Unfortunately, I moved and never got to play SMG2 again. I hope to play it again, now that I'm a lot better at games. Well, enough of my little story, what's a Mario level or star you never beat or had a long time until beating it?

i got 117 shines in sms and the last three required blue coins. i don't know where they are and i never had the patience to find them.

i stopped playing smg at the mole level i think? i was never really into super mario galaxy honestly, didn't have the same immersive feel like the worlds in the previous two games did, but it's been years since i've even looked at the game so that opinion could be re-assessed at some point.

I agree, SMG was not a strong point in the series.

SMS allowed you to go pretty much anywhere you wanted, whether that be looking for secret areas, exploring the huge levels, or interacting in the hub world. The same goes for SM64. This gave the player freedom, a feeling of purpose almost. (because lets admit it we don't just play because we want to save Peach) That's what made these games special IMO.

In SMG, that's all gone. No more sidepaths and back-alleys, giant hub worlds or deep secrets. While the others in the series offered a level of exploration to the game, SMG felt very linear, pretty much a point A to point B game. It's just not as fun. Which might be the reason I never got stuck.

that's how i felt about smg too. it was really just a 3d version of the old games where you followed a path.
