Well, if we're going down to adults, then wouldn't Mario look stupid riding Yoshi? (though Mario isn't real =P)

There's Baby Mario, too it'd make a lot more sense for this, but not adult Mario.

Although the Yoshis found a baby Mario in their island. That's how they usually carry Baby Mario on their red saddles
