Koffing (coughing)
Weezing (wheezing)

Squirtle
Bulbasaur ("saur" (part of a dinosaur))
Charmander

To add to the above:

Squirtle, Wartortle seem to be a portmanteau of Squirt + turtle, Wart + turtle respectively.
Blastoise --> Blast + tortoise
Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur are rather straightforward (Bulb/Ivy/Venus (flytrap) + saur)
Charmander --> Char (NOT Charm) + salamander
Charmeleon --> Char + chameleon
Charizard --> Char + lizrd (explain the Jap name Lizardon)

Some Pokemon like "Victreebel" and "Feraligatr" are missing a letter cuz Pokemon names can be no longer than 10 letters. If this rule did not take place, it would be "Victreebell" and "Feraligator"
Where does it say that? Is it 'bout the trading cards space?
In the game you could only have their name be 10 characters.

Dunno why, but I feel like the compacted names (i.e. Feraligatr) are somewhat better than they would've been if the character limit wasn't ten. =P
