They are called spares in my area.

And they are only allowing the the twelve grade. :|
Because you need to be sure that you have enough units to graduate?
I had 1 off-block for each semester in 10th and since then, I've had 2 off-blocks each semester in 11th and 12th(currently enrolled in). How many credits do they want you guys to have? I only need 22.

NY does not offer blocks, but they do give you a partial day if you have enough credits for graduation at Senior Year. Only exceptions is if you have a job or go to BOCES.

What is BOCES?

It's a program where a school district "shares" with another learning center that teaches students something the district does not have the money or time for. For example, if someone wanted to be a nurse, they could go to the BOCES Center to take nursing classes. Or if someone wanted to know how to work at a steel factory, be a law enforcement guy, etc. However, BOCES can also be seen as a "slow" kind of school, as they mostly deal with kids who are either disabled or don't try hard enough.

BOCES students have to take the bus to the center everyday after 4th period, and then they return to school 9th period. (Our nearest is Rome-Taberg BOCES which is a good 30 minutes away :p)

Yeah.

Well, we can take a 5th year here so sometimes if you're lucky they bend the rules.
How many units/credits do you have as of December 2010?

We have a program similar to that, called WarrenTech. Students at my school go in the morning or the afternoon and get like 5 off-blocks because it's a 3-hour long course, if they've gotten their credits.

Also, this "partial day" thing means that you basically get a half-day everyday in school if you have enough credits to graduate. I'll probably get that next year.

My high school also had a similar program called SCROC. My Learning Center thought it would be a good place for me to take more classes of what I'm into, such as video games, but I was against it because if I did, then I wouldn't be able to go to the Friendship Circle with my friends that I still talk to today. Also, I would miss the opportunity to go to Disneyland, so I didn't do this and spent time in the FC with my friends instead.

SCROC has you leaving after 4th period, and then return at the end of regular school hours.

I don't recall if the high school I went to before had this sort of thing.
