Entertainment is the only broad-yet-narrow category I can think of. But if anyone else has some ideas, post them.

I looked into forum software and I think sticking with SMF would be the best choice. The only other real contender is vBulletin, which actually does have some upsides but for the price (like $150+) its just not worth it. My main concern with SMF is just making it look good, but that doesn't seem like it will be a big problem.

I'm still leaning towards Tumblr for a blog. I personally hated using WordPress for NC, even if it is a little more capable than tumblr. I found several nice Tumblr themes that for about $50 add a lot of polish & functionality so that has my vote right now.

Once we get a name picked out (MORE SUGGESTIONS!) I'll register the domain & start the process of actually getting the forum set up.

Chances are this will be after I get back to SC in mid-August but since I have a couple more weeks in SC probably with no job (my bf's orders got cancelled so more waiting) I have some time to get this put in motion.

I'm hoping that between this place & MPL, plus maybe a few of the old MPF members who aren't active on either forum, we can have a good 30 members to start out with.

Since I'm going to be putting money into it, I'm going to try to take it as far as possible. I don't want it to just be something like Manly Party Forum, which was fun but stagnated and fell to pieces. That place was more of a private hangout for MPF/NC members. I want it to be a forum that has some of the same people but also gets new people.
 
I think entertainment is a great 'broad-yet-narrow' topic, especially since you know you're starting out with a pretty good userbase. It's a topic that tons of people are interested in, so once this is eventually connected to Tumblr and the like this could turn into a fairly large project.
 
@Cook: Once we pick a name, I'll probably register that domain right away. Then it'd probably be mid to late August before I actually got the forum set up. I don't want to do it next week or something, and then be in Wisconsin for a month (still no clue when exactly I'm leaving for Wisconsin) and not be able to give it a lot of attention. So probably close to 2 months from now before its actually open. But closer to that time I'll probably pick a few people to see if they want to be mods & have them help me set it up (naming the boards, making "rules" topics, coming up with membergroups, etc.).

@ToM: I agree that entertainment would be our best bet. I'd really like to do just an "anything & everything" forum but like people have said, those are harder to "market" or however you want to put it. Obviously people would still talk about random stuff like they do here and on NC and everything.

I wish we could think of a good, definite name so I could register it & start doing everything.
