From what I tried out, it is indeed fun. I even whooped SZ and others EASILY. Though the second time I played this, I had a bit of trouble because I didn't realize I was Peach as the third character despite the controller I'm using listed as the second player. Second player was Bowser.

People will complain that nothing new was added if it was just Mario Power Tennis. Adding a unique twist to the game adds a bit of extra challenge and feels a bit fresh. Of course, there's always the standard regular matches if the gimmicks aren't your thing.

According to the site, the Mega Mushroom gimmick is going to be a separate mode/option rather than a main (required) gameplay element from the way it's written. Don't quote me on this, but at least it's an option. My only predictions for the character roster is that Rosalina and Toadette are probably going to be playable. Rosalina's reasoning for potentially being playable is self-explanatory. My only educated guess for Toadette is in the Mario Power Tennis intro. There's a scene where Wario & Waluigi are staring at the scorechart to see how the tournament is. If you closely, you can see that Toad and Toadette are participating in the tournament despite those two not being playable characters in Mario Power Tennis. Yes, it's a random, coincidental tidbit, but I wanted to mention it. And plus, Toad's confirmed to be playable. Mario Tennis Open's gameplay wasn't the issue I had with it, it was how little content it offers. I do hope this game has an interesting roster (not filler, colored Yoshis) and varied modes. Besides that, I'm looking forward to this game. Love the lighting.

Ring Shot, Item Battle, and Piranha Plant Challenge make a return. A new minigame called Mario Bros. Tennis appears. Players must hit the ball to knock-out enemies from the original Mario Bros. arcade. Players can also use the POW Block a total of 3 times during the game.

Customization:
Like in Mario Tennis Open, players can upgrade their Mii's with accessories or costumes to change Mii stats. Players can also use amiibo to earn a costume from the amiibo that was placed.
