It's confirmed that the game will be released on Thursday, December 3, 2015 in Japan, and it will have amiibo support.
Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, Toad, 8-Bit Mario, Dr. Mario, and Yarn Yoshi will all be supported. They will give you special cards to aid you in battle.

Cards ehhhh? Tbh that's a bit unfair b/c what if the attacks are overpowered?

Basically I'm not all that impressed so far due to my favorite parts of both series being the original characters and plots. This seems to take after Sticker Star in that regard which turns me off.

Thanks, and yeah I like speculating too. I did that with Mario Kart 8 and got disappointed when Fawful was not there.
And don't get me started on Sticker Star and the long fanfiction I wrote in my head for that. But I enjoy it nonetheless.

I could more see those characters being rivals than teammates, especially after Dream Team's ending. Bowser and Antasma aren't on good terms, and neither are Bowser and Fawful. For Bowser's team all I want is Kammy back to be honest. No idea why someone had to think of the brilliant idea of replacing her with Paper Kamek. The original Elite Trio should also return. If Bowser has to team up with another RPG-exclusive character maybe Doopliss? I can't think of many villains that are on good terms with him.Bowser498 said:

The most likely use of these characters is a TTYD-like scenario where all the villains are independent of each other but still against Mario. In that game we had Bowser, the X-Nauts, the Shadow Sirens, Doopliss, many of the other chapter bosses that weren't working for any of the main villains, and of course the Shadow Queen. This was also done in Superstar Saga with Cackletta and Fawful and nearly every other boss in the game, most notably Popple.
I'd love to have a battle with two or more villains, preferably a mix of M&L and PM, where the M&L character uses the PM character to fold into different shapes and execute their own "Bros" or "Trio" attacks.
I also hope some of the rpg characters return as well elite trio plz. They were one of the things that made the games special. Combining them would be so awesome. I'm not rooting for any character in particular except the elite trio, though.
They might return, but I wouldn't get my hopes up for their return. Until they're actually in the game, that's when you can get excited. It's not a big deal if they don't appear.
