Mario Kart Wii

Can we talk about this one? I probably had the fondest memories with this game. Loved every track and played this with my friends until I moved out. We were the only ones who used the Wii Wheel and we were damn good with it.

I think the games a love-hate for a lot of people though it seems with the motion controls and wheelies. The bikes drained up most of my time with karts, the inside-drifting was so goooooooooood. The roster was probably the best in the series imo, from Dry Bones to King Boo.

I think I should really go back to this game sometime and play Battle and some tracks I missed, even though the online servers stopped.

bowser if you wnat to talk about ctgp go make another post or something lol

And why would I do that? =P

This was a fun game. There were many discovered shortcuts and glitches (like Maple Treeway and Coconut Mall oobs) that were fun to explore.
Battle mode was okay, and VS was too. Time trials, however, was very interesting. It felt like I WAS SO CLOSE to beating some of them. Sad that the original servers shut down, but I loved playing with the MPL crew on May 19th, 2014...

This mostly comes because of the stupid lightning cloud. Game was too unbalanced. Not saying it wasn't fun, but I definitely feel as though other Mario Kart games. The one reason I prefer MK8 over this is because I feel as though MK8 literally took what was good from this game and just improved upon it, only downside being that MKWii at least had some legitimate battle tracks. :p

Also have I ever mentioned that I hate the lightning cloud item in this game?

I love it! The courses are the best in the series, the glitches are great, and I love the competitive community that has formed around it (i.e. Mario Kart World Cup), almost in a Smash-esque sense. The annoyances such as the Thunder Cloud and bad physics are what make it so great.

In a phrase: "No Mario Kart game will ever be as bad as MKW, thus, no Mario Kart game will ever be as good as MKW."

mkpftw

Don't quote me on these things :p

This is the only time I think where the cloud should spawn. Sometimes in Worldwides when I race with one other person I get a cloud while I'm in second, and the other guy gets this massive lead, and never gets a cloud. Perfect.

HATED this installment. Items are way too OP and if you ride a bike you pretty much have an advantage over players in a kart. In the end years of MKWii I've NEVER seen anybody on karts, it was always bikes. I mean, when you pretty much add wheelies and tricks to one vehicle and not the other I'm pretty sure the fairness will be skewed. Great job Nintendo. :p

I also hated how Battle was always in teams. Part of the fun in Double Dash and DS was being in control of your fate, and I hated how you automatically lost with full health when another poor sap is taking the match very badly.

I will admit though that the music and tracks, as always, were pretty cool. I especially loved Maple Treeway and Grumble Volcano.

You should see the last Nintendo WFC race :p

but nowdays you're pretty much gonna have to use a bike if you want to have a chance at the constant Funky Kong + Bowser Bike combo

But concerning your other complaint, MKW's item system is just fine, you get the right items at the right time(like for example if I'm in 12th place, I'd get a starman or a banzai bill). It's definitely better off than MK8's, which I've heard and seen is terrible. Maybe you're just having bad luck?...

I mean, Double Dash's item system is way worse but that's acceptable by me because I never took that as a serious game to race anybody against due to the poor controls and awkward stage designs. MKWii's system is incredibly broken especially if you're trying to race someone online.

I'm sure Dark Boo would agree with me, but this is the best, if not, one of the best entrees in the Mario Kart series. Yes, it had some flaws no doubt, especially as time went on. Wi-Fi had a cluster of hackers, every room was someone who was hacking... but during the earlier days of wifi, racing was incredibly fun. I'm glad there's still a way for people to play this game with the Wiimmfi. But the Item System I feel (though hectic...) was very fair in giving Items to players in last place. Definitely better than Mario Kart 8's single Green Shell/Mushroom in last place nonsense...

Also, imo, Mario Kart Wii had the best Battle system I have ever experienced in a Mario Kart game. Mario Kart 7's and Mario Kart 8's don't compare whatsoever. Me and Dark Boo used to be on Skype, and we would have a blast with the Battles.

*cracks knuckles*

Staryu already knows what I'm going to say. :p

I hated the Mario Kart Wii battle system. 64 and DD were very fun, but what they did in DS was AMAZING! I played that for hours. I loved the elimination style game and it sucks they haven't brought it back. I think introducing teams to the battle system was a mistake, and the ability to return with more balloons removed that tension of getting out that was core to the previous battle systems.

While I didn't play too much of it, I remember enjoying the battle system in MK7, but that really wasn't saying much. MK8 had a lot of potential, but the lack of real battle stages killed it.

Yeah, I agree. I love MKW, but Battle is lacking. DS's battles were almost as fun as the racing itself. Remember Bob-omb Blast from DD? Why haven't they brought that back?

Mario Kart Wii is actually probably one of my favorite Mario Karts! The roster was great and I think that the stages were all unique. The music was also incredible!
This game was a blast to play online and with friends. I would still be playing it if Nintendo didn't take it offline. :(

Battle was a fun time as well, I think it was best in the series. (Except DS's battles were loads of fun!)Even though it didn't add a whole lot to the formula it expounded on what it already had and made it smoother and more enjoyable.

Totally agreed. Of course, any Mario Kart could provide either Balloon Battle or Coin Runners, but why not add something unique? I didn't really play battle that much anyway - instead, I played VS just like on May 19th 1 year and 11 months ago. :(

@TheStarParty: Just get CTGP. It's free, and you can still play online. (Though it excludes Battle and instead includes Countdown)
