He was the Danish king who united the warring tribes of Scandinavia. His name was used for the new technology because, like Harald, it had Scandinavian origins and it brought diverse groups together. In the namesake's case, it provided a short-range wireless link between cellular, computer, and other network devices. Harald's last name, by the way, was actually Blatand, which somehow was translated into English as Bluetooth.
