Oops, those should be bank spaces, you're right. :P I also forgot to add some variety over on the left side of the board. The trade off with that bank on the left is that it's faster, but looking at it again, I should probably add more spaces to the other path to make it a little more worth it...

I did test out the skeleton key doors, there are a few things I want to fix before release. I do want to keep the door in the center, so I'll be removing the one on the top left.

Hmm, that's an interesting idea, but the board looks very messy and confusing because of the cluttered background. I'm sure there is a way you could make a custom background that incorporates the idea!
