Ah, the wintry paths of the Shiver Blossom Shore. With a path of blessings and curses, anyone who manages to reach the lake would be granted the power of the Stars... and then some. I guess that's what made Bowser rent that cabin up there...

This board is modeled after boards such as Mario's Rainbow Castle, Pagoda Peak, and Castaway Bay, where the players must follow a mostly linear path in order to reach the Star which is always located at the end. However, unlike the former 3, this board takes a new twist, by providing 8 different paths for the player to take at the end. Each path will grant the player with a blessing, or a curse. On top of that, the location of the star will affect the way some events in the board behave!

The effects of each path, Happening Spaces, and Board Events will be explained below, if you'd like to go into the board blind, please ignore the spoiler tagged area.

Happening Spaces:
  • Chuckster: The Snowman at the bottom is a chuckster that will launch the landing player to one of the 3 pink-highlighted spaces on the board at random... or back to START.
  • Bless Or Curse: If the star is located on the cherry path, all players will receive the Cherry Blessing, making them roll 2 dice blocks on their next turn. If the star is located on the dread path, all players will receive either a Reverse Curse or Slow Curse, at random.
Board Events:
  • Mr. Blizzard's Snowball Stand: For a fee, the player will be able to throw a snowball at a rival, which will make them drop 1, 2 (random), or all 3 items depending on the size of the snowball thrown. A regular snowball costs 15 coins and drops 1 item, a big snowball costs 30 coins and drops 2 items, and the huge snowball costs 50 coins and drops all items.
  • Bowser's Curse House: For a fee, the player will be able to inflict a curse on one of their rivals. 5 coins for a Slow Curse, 10 coins for a Reverse Curse, and 10 coins for both. These curses will stack.
Misc. Events:
  • Boo: When the star is on the cherry path, Boo's services will not be available.
  • Last 5 Turns: If the star is on the cherry path, Toad will pick out the player in 4th place and award them 30 coins. If the star is on the dread path, Baby Bowser will pick out the player in 1st Place and take 30 coins from them. Both of them will factor in bonus star performance when choosing the player.
  • Cherry & Dread Star Path Split:From left to right, the end of the paths will have the following effects:
    • Receive a Golden Mushroom.
    • Receive a Warp Block.
    • Receive a Bowser Suit.
    • Receive a Lucky Lamp.
    • Lose half your coins.
    • Lose all your items.
    • All rivals gain 20 coins.
    • All rivals get a free item. (selected from the Cherry Path's items only)

Bugs & Glitches:
Due to the complexity of the events on this board, custom AI was created to handle decision-making on the events. This means there is possibility for the AI to behave in strange ways. In addition to this, custom AI has been created for every junction on the board to help make the CPUs make better decisions, and most importantly, able to pick out the correct path when they reach the cherry/dread path split. Granted, there is still RNG on whether or not the CPUs will obey the correct decision or not based on the selected difficulty, so do keep that in mind.
This board is not tested on Everdrive, so please do let me know if it does not work.

Final Words: I will be updating this board for balancing purposes (if necessary) and also aesthetics. If you have any suggestions, do feel free to message me. Also, if you find any glitches or bugs, report them to me so I can get them fixed.

Version 2.0 changes:

  • Large graphical overhaul. Visuals of all kinds were improved.
  • Happening Spaces changed to bless or curse players depending on star's location.
  • Prices on Mr. Blizzard's Snowball Stand have been adjusted.
  • Last 5 Turns event added.
  • Boo's services have been changed to work depending on the star's location.
  • Items on the cherry path have been changed
  • New junction added at the start to add more gameplay depth.

Version 1.3 changes:

  • Fixed a bug where CPUs would find themselves on an infinite loop on the 2 board event prompts. The AI should now eventually escape the loop.
  • Fixed the Merged Path Reverse bug, where if a player lands on a space that is the merge between 2 paths while in reverse, and then they move in reverse again, the game warps the player to START. If this scenario happens, the player will move along the 'main path' of the board.

One of the top 10 boards we have played on. Love the custom events on the board and the happening spaces having custom events are always a positive. Theming is very good and I love the strategy of choosing what route you want to go towards the star at the end. Sometimes you want to use the magic lamp right away and other times you might just want to wait it out for a different reward. Overall great experience and well done.

A very pleasant custom board with some unique strategies! Since it's a one-way board, it feels like a mad dash race to the end to get a Star. But all of the events and layout design lend well to fleshing out the experience and improving strategy. For example, Skeleton Keys are viable as they can access a large shortcut. Overall, the theming is great with a nice duality between blessings and curses, the latter leading to a bit of a "danger lurking behind the corner" feeling. I think that the blessing/curse theme is the most interesting part here and I think it would have been more interesting if it were played into more, perhaps with more Happening Spaces or events that invoke the mechanic. (But, should the custom Last 5 Turns event just be Baby Bowser stealing my 30 coins? It was especially poignant because Bowser had just taken 10 coins from the CPU too. Maybe it could be reworked so last place can choose to get a blessing or put out a curse.) But overall it was a great romp through a custom board!

Currently the best custom board I've played. The main gimmick is fantastic, few boards offer as much choice the final area does. Great theming, fun happening events, and best of all, great item balancing due to the board's design. Keys are super viable due to the gate placement, Warp Block and Bowser Suit are great due to the linearity, and even Reverse Shroom isn't dominant here because you want to be getting to the end as many times as you can. If I were to nitpick, the Snowman event didn't really feel worth using most of the time due to its cost, but I guess that's preferable to it being too powerful since losing your items all the time would be really annoying. Otherwise, this is near-perfect and I would probably put this board in my top 10 for the entire classic series, let alone custom boards.
