I have not played a single Resident Evil game. Sure I have seen people play and I have taken the controller every once in a while, but I haven't actually sat down to play one from start to finish. I'm doing a half-year resolution: Play through the Resident Evil games by the end of the year. What specific games will I be playing?

Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil Zero

I already have RE1 and I just started.

I would also like to play Outbreak Files, but I don't have a PS2.

Any recommendations? When should I play Zero? Any other games in the series worth playing?
 
Did I say at the end of the year? I meant the end of this year. :p Even if that doesn't make any sense with the whole half-year thing. :p

I'm not one to look up guides and walkthorughs in games, but I had to with RE1 and I still couldn't correspond the game to the guide because I think I did some things out of order. I also wasted a lot of bullets, so that doesn't help.  :-\ I think the last thing I did was get that collar from the dog..

But I think I might go for this again. If Revelations is considered part of the "main games," then sure, it can go on the list.
 
Main series in roughly chronologically order (without getting into the nitty gritty details of the story) is:

Resident Evil 0
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil Code Veronica X
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6

5 and 6 are relatively easy completions since they're more of an action third person shooter, 4 and revelations have similar gameplay but have more puzzles similar to the series pre-RE4.

Although with the older games good luck, I don't even want to go back to the games now after having not played them for so long. >.>
