Shiver Blossom Shore

MP3 Shiver Blossom Shore

One of the top 10 boards we have played on. Love the custom events on the board and the happening spaces having custom events are always a positive. Theming is very good and I love the strategy of choosing what route you want to go towards the star at the end. Sometimes you want to use the magic lamp right away and other times you might just want to wait it out for a different reward. Overall great experience and well done.

A very pleasant custom board with some unique strategies! Since it's a one-way board, it feels like a mad dash race to the end to get a Star. But all of the events and layout design lend well to fleshing out the experience and improving strategy. For example, Skeleton Keys are viable as they can access a large shortcut. Overall, the theming is great with a nice duality between blessings and curses, the latter leading to a bit of a "danger lurking behind the corner" feeling. I think that the blessing/curse theme is the most interesting part here and I think it would have been more interesting if it were played into more, perhaps with more Happening Spaces or events that invoke the mechanic. (But, should the custom Last 5 Turns event just be Baby Bowser stealing my 30 coins? It was especially poignant because Bowser had just taken 10 coins from the CPU too. Maybe it could be reworked so last place can choose to get a blessing or put out a curse.) But overall it was a great romp through a custom board!

Currently the best custom board I've played. The main gimmick is fantastic, few boards offer as much choice the final area does. Great theming, fun happening events, and best of all, great item balancing due to the board's design. Keys are super viable due to the gate placement, Warp Block and Bowser Suit are great due to the linearity, and even Reverse Shroom isn't dominant here because you want to be getting to the end as many times as you can. If I were to nitpick, the Snowman event didn't really feel worth using most of the time due to its cost, but I guess that's preferable to it being too powerful since losing your items all the time would be really annoying. Otherwise, this is near-perfect and I would probably put this board in my top 10 for the entire classic series, let alone custom boards.
