Mario Party 3 all the way. Always my favorite and always will be. It introduced Story Mode and a plethora of great items and most are exclusive to it such as the reverse mushroom. It was also Princess Daisy's first Mario Party and one of the few games to have her Peach-like appearance. My favorite Daisy quote is in this game. The best host of the series with his "Yay!" was introduced here. The mini-games are great and original both single player and multiplayer. Best soundtrack and voices out of the three games aside from "D"OH I MISSED".

I can play this Mario Party for hours and isn't frustrating as the other two with either chance time appearing too much or too much hidden blocks.

I just wanted to mention that I am FINALLY going to cap my Mario Party collection!  I just bought Mario Party 1 (plus box and manual.)  I will finally have all Mario Parties released except for Advance because I do not have a Game Boy Advance (besides, people say it's horrible.)  I will get the 3DS version when it comes out so I will still have them all!

EDIT: Got it yesterday but wasn't able to play it until today.  LOVE it.  Mario Party 2 still beats it but man was it good for it's time! 6/16/13

I did not really like Mario Party 1 because the items were too pricey. Mario Party 2 was an improvement because of cheaper items, but I still did not like that you could only have ONE item, that was a severe limitation.

Mario Party 3 was great. Holding 3 items, the reverse mushroom can help you go to Boo 3 times, and mess someone else up or help yourself out. I also liked the cellular shopper and getting any item I want any time, and the lucky lamp because I would use it when someone was really close to the star and that messed their game.

... MP1 didn't have any items. Unless you're talking about the Slow Dice or Warp Block, those don't really count because they happen at total random.

They still do count as items, regardless of the items being random at times. It's all random and luck that it'll happen to you, as long as you have the items turned on from the Mushroom Bank.
