Mario Tennis Open forecast!
What could possibly be in Mario Tennis Open for the Nintendo 3DS?
March 23, 2012
Mario Tennis is back and this time, it can be viewed in 3D! Nintendo and Cameloft announced a new Mario Tennis title just before the Tokyo Game Show on September 12, 2011. It was known as Mario Tennis 3DS at the time. Until Nintendo Direct on February 22, the title was renamed "Mario Tennis Open" and the release dates for Europe (May 25, 2012), North America (May 20, 2012) and Japan (May 24, 2012) have also been confirmed. Australia is yet to have a release date, still in 2012.
Mario and Company
Returning from Power Tennis for the Nintendo GameCube and Wii, Mario and his brother, Luigi are ready to play more with the others such as Peach, the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and Daisy, the princess of Sarasaland. Yoshi, the cute and friendly Dino, Mario's nemesis, Wario, and his brother Waluigi, the jungle Kongs, Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, and the Mario Bros. arch-enemy Bowser and his son Bowser Jr. We also have news on Boo, that he has been confirmed as playable. Mii characters are also confirmed. With a total of 13 characters, the list still remains incomplete.
Locations
There are 9 courts confirmed. The Hard, Clay and Grass courts are in Mario Stadium, which looks similar to Peach Dome back in the GameCube version. Bowser's Castle is most likely to return, and it will. DK Jungle will also return as well. Peach's Castle court is known as Peach Palace. Wario Dunes, a desert themed court, Mushroom Village, a forest of Mushrooms, and a snow court, Penguin Iceberg. The list is also incomplete. The Composition Court was also not mentioned.
Play Modes
Exhibition is likely to return, but what about Tournament, Ring Shot and Item Battle Modes? Though, those questions are likely to be answered from Nintendo prior to the game's release. Would some courts have gimmick features? You can also see your results and trophies you won in the Records menu once again.
In-game controls
The game has confirmed that it will have full touch screen controls. The touch screen will display the controls with a press of a button, or touching it's panel. As I talked with Yoshiman222 in the past, Power Shots might return to the game. As seen in WonderCon 2012 near Los Angeles, it was shown on a video published on YouTube. Gyroscope support, which allows players to look around the court from a ground-level perspective was also featured.
Special Games
What kind of Special Games would likely to return? Back in Power Tennis, each court has it's own Minigame. Or is it another Tiebreaker matches from the N64 version? Though, no Special Games have been confirmed yet, but they are likely to return.
Play Online!
Now, Mario Tennis Open can support online play using Nintendo Network, other than the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Also, up to 4 players can play in Multiplayer Mode. The game is likely to support StreetPass and SpotPass, or not.
Nintendo described the game as "fast-paced" with progressively more intense rallies during gameplay. And according to Nintendo about the 3D graphics, Mario Tennis Open will expect an "incredible amount of depth".
