[Mario Kart] Toblet's Top Characters!

The Lost Luma said:
Wait, shouldn't I have got 2 points for Baby Daisy?
I'm confused...
Hmm, actually no. I realized what happened is that when you forgot to add in Honey Queen, Baby Daisy was at the time positioned as the 31st character. When you included Honey Queen, it moved Baby Daisy down to 32nd. This change was made after I had already revealed the result. Sorry, I can't give you the extra point. :\

I know it wasn't intentional but I have to be fair. :L

Anyway, time to give some more points! :D

Baby Luigi

Baby Luigi is just another clone. Okay, so he's been in two Mario Kart games after making his debut in Yoshi's Island so he does have a small amount of importance, but not much. He has decent stats in Mario Kart Wii having +2.0 speed so he is quite good overall. My biggest problem with him is he just blends into the background too much; there's nothing really unique about him that makes him stand out; and it seems everything he does do is done better by Baby Mario. However, despite being clones the babies are quite popular, but all you really need in the roster is Baby Mario (male) and Baby Peach (female); these two together appeal to a whole range of people. I just don't want TWO babies (Baby Mario + Baby Luigi), who are related, have adult forms already, AND look similar in their models taking up another roster spot. Let's face it, Baby Luigi will never get into a roster before Baby Mario and Baby Peach is the main female baby so really, Baby Luigi in my opinion has got to go.

Luigifan3DSGCN gets the first spot-on position and claims 2 points! Congratulations!
The Lost Luma is not letting him take all the glory and claims a respectable 1 point!

Slowly but surely getting through them.

Looks like one competitors' not leaving without claiming a point!

Waluigi

I have to think carefully before calling Waluigi a clone, but I can now safely say he's not a clone of one character... he's a clone of two!! Take Luigi's tall skinny frame, cowardly personality, clumsiness, and turn his L upside down on his cap and take Wario's evil personality, pink nose and ugly looks and you have a brand new 'unique' character called WarioLuigi or Waluigi! He's just not a creative character.  He also has an annoying voice. The only real time he showed a hint of being badass was in Mario Party 3 but that was a long time ago now; he just seems to be a pathetic character that can't do anything now and relies on the aid of Wario pretty much all the time; and again, everything Waluigi does Wario seems to do it better. He is becoming a staple now however and is important in spin-offs; however I really think that position is unjustified because of the aforementioned reasons. Also, he has yet to appear in a main game and can't even get into Wario's own series! Let's just say I was one of the people that was over-the-moon by his absence in Mario Kart 7.

Brookelas claims one point! Well done.

So basically anyone in my top 25 is anyone I don't mind returning.

Unfortunately Waluigi has already been confirmed in MK8 but there's nothing I can do about that. :p

Koopa

Did you think you could get far in my top characters list by blending into the background and being unnoticed for a long period of time like you usually do? NOT TODAY KOOPA! >:3 Koopa is such a comedian; I find it hilarious he has more personality dead than alive! But seriously, Koopa is just so bland and boring in my opinion. I remember trying to play him twice in the Mario Kart series; once in Mario Kart GCN and once in Mario Kart Wii. Needless to say, I've not played him since. I just don't know what's so special about him that justifies his position as a new staple; perhaps maybe it's just the fact he's popular? I guess the main positive of Koopa is he's extremely significant to the Mario series in general; what's a Mario game without Koopa; playable or as an enemy?  But I just wish he wasn't so generic; basically all my issues with Koopa would be solved if he was replaced by a unique character such as Koops or Kooper.

Luigifan3DSGCN barely misses out. Better luck next time!

Who is the second character to be removed from the picture?

Lakitu

So basically Lakitu is an OK character; However, his voice just really gets on my nerves; he sounds like a 5 year old child repeatedly taunting in your ear. It's just so annoying... Aside from that, I'm also thinking about characters I'd like to see return, but Lakitu is not my first choice. I wouldn't be upset if he returned or didn't to be honest. Plus this Lakitu just looks like a regular one with a very slight difference, a red shell; Nintendo could have been more creative than that surely! Nonetheless, he isn't as generic as some characters and Mario games wouldn't be the same without him as a referee. Two things I really like about Lakitu is his really nicely coloured light blue kart and cloud emblem. Lakitu has been in Mario Kart since the start so he's probably one of the more important characters, but I do think his best role will always be as the referee.

No points this time!

Looks like another surprise is coming up!

For a different reason...

Baby Peach

I bet you're shocked and would love to know why Baby Peach got this high, especially over Baby Luigi, correct? Well, basically it's the appeal of this character to a whole range of people; particularly adults who have children of their own. Babies are just clones, but I will accept them if they bring variety to the roster; Baby Luigi doesn't add much variety with the presence of Baby Mario (male), but Baby Peach (female) fills the gap nicely, but I definitely don't want 3 or more baby clones. One thing Mario Tennis Open's roster got right was the number of Babies (2) and which specifically were added; had Baby Peach not been playable the roster would have been heavily male dominated which just isn't right for a game which has a target audience of pretty much everyone. Some people may argue that the reason 'being female' alone is not a good enough reason for a character to be added to a roster and I somewhat agree but I definitely think it's just about a good enough reason give Baby Peach priority over Baby Luigi; furthermore we don't need 3 Luigi's!; Luigi, Waluigi, Baby Luigi, especially because he's not even the main character! At least Baby Peach is only the second version of Peach. However, ultimately, she is just a clone and Baby Peach sort of just appeared out of nowhere so I can see why she may be hated. No baby though in my opinion other than Baby Mario should ever be rated in the top 20 (out of the 33) because they just aren't important.

Brookelas gets a spot-on position so is granted 2 points!

Double KO!

Baby Mario

There will come a point where I don't have to use the word 'clone' to describe someone. :p So basically it's the end of the run for the babies. Baby Mario is easily the most important baby by far though; he even received trophies and stickers the in Super Smash Bros series! If there has to be one Baby playable it should be Baby Mario and fortunately that will always be the case anyway. However, he is just a clone of an existing character and it would have been a nice twist if he was actually Mario's real son but named differently and with different clothes to actually make him look unique. Nonetheless, Baby Mario is a decent character worthy of 22nd place but I personally don't value him higher than the existing characters and that's why he's been given the boot.

Better luck next time guys!

Oh dear. This is going to make the picture look bare.

Honey Queen

Wow, that's going to put a dent in the picture; I'll miss that purple. xD Anyhow, Honey Queen gets A LOT of hate and I mean A LOT. Probably because she was doing her thing, looking after her followers, being absolutely GIGANTIC, only making two minor appearances in the Super Mario Galaxy series; then BOOM, she's a playable character. I mean, why? She's probably the second biggest "wtf" character in the Mario Kart roster. On the other hand, Honey Queen is actually one of the rare characters that is completely unique. Even her miniature bee followers look nothing like her. Honey Queen has a moderately annoying voice and is now used by many as the perfect excuse that pretty much all characters, no matter how insignificant, have a chance at being playable, and that the argument "the character is too big" is irrelevant. I love her colour scheme of yellow and purple and her kart looks fantastic in my opinion. I also love her bee emblem. However, because she isn't really that important I don't think she quite deserves a position in the top 20, but she definitely does add variety to the roster and I don't think she deserves the amount of hate she gets.

Nope!

I'm into my top 20 characters now! Just out of curiosity is there any character(s) you guys really want to see me give the boot? :p It won't change the results or anything I'd just like to know what you guys think, even those that haven't participated. And do you agree/disagree with any of the positions so far?

At least one of you is in luck then. :p

Get out of Peach's castle!

Dry Bowser

I wouldn't say the word 'clone' is the right term for this character, but it's very close. He actually has a unique model that would've taken time to implement, but yeah he basically is just a dead version of Bowser. Dry Bowser has made quite a few appearances over his short duration of existence; two of them being playable so he does have some importance. I remember seeing on the haunted mansion track of Mario Kart 8 there was actually a poster with Dry Bowser so he's already made at least a cameo, plus at least he actually made a credible appearance before making his debut as a playable character in Mario Kart. His voice just sounds epic. His Kart colour scheme is rather dull but he has a nice emblem. I remember trying to play him and it actually kept me entertained because he really is badass so I can't slate him for being a bad character. Overall though, he certainly makes a good boss character but whether he's suitable for another position in the roster is debatable.

Not this time either!

He's not really generic but he's an enemy alright!

Petey Pirahna

I love Petey Pirah- whoops I slipped on a Banana. Nevermi- Oops did it again. *Crashes into an item box immediately after* - "..." *Falls off* OMG ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! So, Petey Piranha is a very good and enjoyable character. If you're going to be a playable enemy do it like Petey: not generic, very unique character model, has importance etc. There's nothing bad about him and he's seriously worthy of a place in the top 10; but, and it's a big but, he has the most enormous head ever. Who needs a blooper blocking your screen when you can play as Petey Piranha? It's very difficult to see where you're going - almost to the point of it being pointless to choose Petey competitively because you just can't see what's in-front of you, and especially not small Banana's. It's this reason and this one major reason alone that's enough to damage Petey Pirahna's ranking and even his chances of appearing in future Mario Karts; as demonstrated when he was found to be a Beta element in Mario Kart Wii but was cut; the reason most likely being the size of his head.

The Lost Luma just misses out on 0.5 of a point!

Heh, two in succession. Why not?

I do remember struggling to decide between the next two characters who the 18th and 17th places should go to.
I finally decided upon...

20110718183844%21Diddymkwii.PNG
Diddy Kong

So basically it came down to how much I like the characters. I don't really like the Kongs to begin with, however I do tolerate Diddy Kong because I appreciate that Donkey Kong needs a partner. Diddy Kong is now important in the Mario franchise, has a unique character model and he does have some nice Mario Kart Wii stats. I also like his emblem. However, Diddy Kong just seems slippery; I just can't seem to hit him with items and online users that use Diddy Kong more often than not are the ones that gang up on me. Not sure why. :p His voice is annoying. I don't know, he just seems to act like 'it's the end of the world' if hit by an item. Ideally I prefer DK to be the only Kong playable, but I won't be unhappy if Diddy is included just because he's becoming a staple and realistically is one of the most likely characters to return, and he actually has relevance in the Mario universe, but any other Kong inclusions would just upset me; especially if Funky Kong were to return.

Brookelas claims another two points and takes the lead!

Three is the magic number!

R.O.B.

It's the end of the road for R.O.B and I can't really position him above any of the remaining characters who are all more worthy of a higher rank in my opinion, but I still think he deserves this high rank. He's not a Mario character; however, his situation is slightly more plausible being simply a robotic operating buddy, not being a random character of their own major series who don't belong in Mario Kart, and is actually useful as shown in the Super Smash bros Subspace Emissary. R.O.B. is completely unique; there will not be another character like him in the roster because he's so different. I just love his movements, his voice, never got on my nerves once and I found him to be a really likeable character; that's also why I finally decided to position him above Diddy Kong. Though, he doesn't really fit in the Mario roster and it's likely his appearance in Mario Kart DS was a one-time thing anyway.

Points seem to be quite scarce at the moment. :p

It's about time I updated this. :p

King Boo

King Boo was an awkward one for me to rate. On one hand, I do like his look. He's never been annoying to me. He has importance.  He's just a good choice overall to be in the roster. On the other hand, I remember trying to play him once for a change and as he was the third most appealing heavy-weight character to me, I thought, why not? I'll give him a go. When I actually played him, even though I chose the same bike, it felt a lot different; I just didn't like the fact he was floating while racing and strangely enough it made him difficult to use as a result. That and, to me he virtually looks like boo wearing Peach's crown and therefore has an unoriginal design. Also, I know I shouldn't slate a character due to how much people use a character, but I seriously can't remember the last time I saw someone using him in online races... Overall, I do like King Boo but he would be much better and would be slightly less of a blend-in-the-background character if he returned with his new awesome Dark Moon design, which could even make him a top-ten character!

Brookelas gets 0.5 of a point!
