Oh, yes. Easily wayyyy better than Mario Kart 64.
I like how you could just explore levels and see all the stuff that may be hidden/not normally seen while racing. I suppose the main levels would be the 4 that contain keys for the "Minigames/deathmatch" levels. (Which, yes, Icicle Pyramid is the bee's knees). It's hovercart version wasn't bad either (wanna say Blackwater Lagoon). Also love the Castle Varient with collecting Bananas. The Dino Egg capture is just too easy to have any fun

Whether camping on the enemy spot, letting the first three eggs get taken first, go all out ape shit (and win with them having no points), etc. I've done it all to have fun in that mode, haha.
Frosty Village is one of my favorite tracks along with Star City. I love most of the tracks in the game actually, those two are probably my favorite however.
The bosses were great, only annoying one being the Octopus's rematch. Wizpig's last race can be a pain as well.
When I first got the game, I used Diddy just because it was Diddy, but quickly switched characters to mainly use is Pipsy and Tiptup. I never collect the bananas though

After talking with Cook over his last play of this game, I said the next time I play, I will choose another character and go after bananas cause I never do that (don't really have to with TipTup/Pipsy).
I never unlocked T.T., and always unlock (or would unlock every time if he respawned after the first time) Drumstick, but I never play as him.
Music is also grand (David Wise, what you expect).... and I think I addressed everything off my head. Did I mention DKR >>>> MK64?

One of the few N64 games I remember playing as a child (note, that I never had an N64). Good times.
Good game. Definetly worth playing, even if just on an emulator. I have my doubts for the DS version, not because of the lack of Banjo and Conker.
Tiptup rules though.
I hated that they took out Banjo and Conker, easily the 2 most badass characters in the game cause of the Rare dilemma. :

The DS version was pretty terrible compared to the original.
Except Rare made the DS version, too

(I know, just taking your wording literal).
The DS version... I could live with the character changes they made (I wanna say I bought it first week of release) the only pain/thing that hindered the game was the startup at each race. Car you had to use the stylus (preferably with your left hand cause you don't need to steer at the start of any course and keep your right hand on the accelerator). Same for plane, but hovercraft was whatever.... BUT the hovercraft completely sucked compared to the N64. In the N64 game you could at least hop to save your turns (I think it was even enforced pretty much to do well), but... I can't even explain the DS controls and I never beat the Octopus the second time (off memory anyway).
Though that is the only cons. Characters, eh, Taj's voice, eh, hovercraft controls, >.<, and startups for each race... yea, and not being able to play any of those "minigames" whatever you wanna calls it other than in Multiplayer... OK
But I loved the extra tracks, I liked the custom pic that you can have on the tracks, and I liked being able to swap out the sounds for getting hit, firing a weapon, etc. I rocked the Bruce Campbell set for all of that
