Challenge #3 - Rebus Revenge

Challenge #3 - Rebus Revenge
[October 14]

ffchallenge3.png

Hahahaha! You expected SZ? Well too bad, for you're in HJ territory now! And I'll show you what kind of fall fantasy I've come up with!

Let's see what your challenge this week is... Rebus Puzzles! Essentially what you guys have to contend with are images and sometimes words or letters which convey a particular meaning related to the Mario Universe. There will be a new set of rebus puzzles every two days (there will be four sets of ten total), and you won't be able to answer old sets of riddles once new ones are uploaded.

To start with, I'll leave a cryptic title that describes the group of rebus puzzles given, and the following day I'll drop a clue for each of the puzzles. In addition, on the second day your team may ask me for an extra clue for any one (and one only) rebus in the current group.

Puzzles are ranked according to their difficulty, assessed by an independent source. The higher the rank, the more points the puzzle is worth.

As usual, use your Final Answers for submissions and make a new topic and discuss with your teammates to maximize your chances.

Final Standings (out of max 410)
1. Rhapsody Core - 345 points
2. Super Princess Mushroom Dino Force - 145 points
3. TheChaoticCriminalYoshis~ - 35 points points
4. The Spiritual Fungi Kong Koopalings - 10 points
5. Saxobone Guys - 0 points

Alright chumps, time for some hints. Don't forget you can ask for one more hint on any one of the riddles in your team topics.

DON'T FORGET TO SUBMIT YOUR ANSWERS IN THE FINAL ANSWERS TOPIC BY MIDNIGHT TOMORROW PACIFIC TIME!

A-1: Take all three parts at face value; over-think it and you won't get it.
A-2: If Koopas were like charging horses, I could take em out easily with that weapon on the left...
B-1: What type of money is it? What's happening to it?
B-2: Something big needs to be abbreviated here...
B-3: Arrows pointing "up"... maybe...?
C-1: Only one of the three represent a video game element.
C-2: A suit is usually represented by its...?
D-1: UNO! Um... that's a...
D-2: That's a jigsaw puzzle of our planet isn't it?
D-3: If only I had the 10, Q, K and A to complete a crunchy flush...

Humph! Time's up, let's see how you minions did...

The Spiritual Fungi Kong Koopalings - 0 points
Super Princess Mushroom Dino Force - 0 points
Saxobone Guys - 0 points
TheChaoticCriminalYoshis~ - 5 points (D-2)
Rhapsody Core - 80 points (A-1, A-2, B-2, C-1, D-1, D-2, D-3)

...looks like some of you lost your harmony in this rhapsody of whitewash...

You'd be digging vacated Monty Mole burrows if ya didn't realize we were talkin' 'bout minigames this time.
And now for what you've always wanted to know, our solutions for Set #1:

A-1. Bombsketball (bonbon/2 = bon (bomb), skates = sket, superimposed on a ball)
A-2. Spike-n-Span (a pike and a pan, add 'S' to the two objects)
B-1. Bill Blasters (money bills shot out of a cannon/blaster... XD)
B-2. Circuit Maximus (the letters MAX are in a circuit, inside the flag of the US i.e. Circuit MAX in (the) US)
B-3. Surf's Way Up (three up arrows pointing up at a wave/surf, three arrows meaning 'many'/'very' here and also pointing 'up' to the surf)
C-1. Shock Drop or Roll (thunderbolt = shock, teardrop = drop, circle with arrows = roll) ~accepting Shock Drop and Roll here~
C-2. Aces High (aces are represented by their suit, and they are on the high end of the image)
D-1. Revers-a-bomb (bomb backward plus the reverse symbol in the background)
D-2. World Piece (a jigsaw puzzle of the world with a missing piece)
D-3. Cucumberjacks (cucumbers on a Jack card)

Notice how I had a minigame from each of the console games plus DS? Sneaky sneaky...

Before I get started on the next diabolical set, listen up for these pieces of advice from Uncle 8B1T:

>Work out what the Set's cryptic title stands for, and you'll have a better chance. Isn't that right Mic_Kirby? -shoves a mike in his hand-
>Even if you're not 100% certain, submit something! I'm not that evil to penalize you for wrong submissions.
>Rebus puzzles don't focus on hidden meanings so much as face-value comprehension and clever sounds. Or something. And no Chaos, if this were a test I WOULDA SENT YA OUTTA THE DOOR! >:E
>Do your research. You have this wonderful resource called the net; amplify your brains with it!!!
>I'm going to give a hint on the cryptic title on the second day in addition to the riddle hints.

...pardon my brashness. Ahem, next!

-flashing lights-

Rank D puzzles - 5 points for each correct

if the images don't load I'll refresh them soon

Hint time:

Title: Stars and Shines are obvious, but turning a page? Man I should read books more often...
A-1: Y'know, I'm sure a wind instrument and a mask might help with the second half... NO! Not a recorder! >:E
B-1: Science buffs will know that the man has a connection to lightbulbs and telephones. As for the pigs... oink.
B-2: That armor goes on someone's...? AAAAAAAACK -gets electrocuted- ...am I?... -faints-
B-3: Take this one by labeling each thing and then putting them in order. Why is Blue there? Probably to mock you.
B-4: Dyllis would agree that you should play more Capcom games, and that herbs are delicious in meals.
C-1: Looks like Mario went to the world of Kid Icarus recently and scored big time... or maybe dealt his rivals 26 points' of damage.
C-2: If only there was this cap I could use... -cough-
C-3: That word made by those letters... fire and ice...
D-1: Exactly what's there in the cage there kids. If you don't get this one you'll have the same fate as that sun.
D-2: Where is that shoe thing with respect to the beast?

You can ask for oneextra hint in your team board as it is day two.

And now, a reminder to y'all that this set closes at 11:59:)59)pm on Thursday 18th October, Pacific Time. Don't be late or else you'll be the next on the grate... or something.

Oh-noes! The timer went to zero! If-a you haven't submitted, Too Bad! -Mario falls off stage-

Ahem! Let's see what went down in this set:

The Spiritual Fungi Kong Koopalings - 0 points
Super Princess Mushroom Dino Force - 35 points (B-1, C-2, D-1, D-2)
Saxobone Guys - 0 points
TheChaoticCriminalYoshis~ - 30 points (C-2, C-3, D-1, D-2)
Rhapsody Core - 120 points (ALL CLEAR)

Someone got into the core, but that ain't stopping the criminals and princess dino force from scraping a few!

The Stars and Shines were reference to the 3D Mario Game objectives while the 'turning the page' refers to chapters from Paper Mario.
Here's Set #2's tattle log. Obviously found in the trash can:

A-1: Turning Turning Double Time (turning arrow x2, the Song of Double Time [Majora's Mask])
B-1: For Pigs the Bell Tolls (four pigs, Alexander Graham Bell, toll gates) ~Accepting "For Pigs the Bells Toll" here~
B-2: Chests in the Current (chest armors in the electrical current [the ammeter represents current rather than voltage])
B-3: The Watermelon Festival (water surrounding a melon, fist, rival(s) - r)
B-4: Rock n Rollodillo (Megaman i.e. Rock(man), + Roll O dill (the herb) O) ~Accepting "Rock and Rollodillo" here~
C-1: Mario Shoots the Moon (shooting the moon in Hearts is collecting all hearts and the Q of spades)
C-2: A-Maze-ing Emergency Exit (letter A, maze, emergency exit in said maze)
C-3: Hot and Cold Collide (fireball and iceball smash into each other, scattering the word collide)
D-1: The Caged Shine Sprite (kinda obvious, caged shining sun)
D-2: Boo in a Box (boot - t inside an ox, add b in front of the ox) ~Accepting "Boo in the Box" here~

Two each from PMTTYD, SM64 (original), SMG, SMG2 and SMS. For those teams without points, you'd better get collecting! >:E

No more advice from me right now. But since some of you chumps are struggling, I'm gonna go EASY on ya this time and give you an EASY set. If you don't score at least half of the maximum for this one, prepare yourself for a trip to the rotisserie - I'm sure to enjoy kong koopaling krispy ribs and saxobone stew. :)<

-Bowser's seven note motif plays-

Ack, I'm way late! Well, I guess it's better to have riddles now than never.

Title: Down with the Red Hats! Long Live the Troop! -gets attacked by 8-Bits-
C-1: Chickens can 'see' that the riddle in question is nowhere near as pretty as the Delta Red agent. See what? Maybe take a look at where they're trapped.
C-2: A perfume by Hugo Boss... sounds powerful. Powerful enough for my music to go looooooow...
D-1: I don't know if Boos eat desserts, but I looooove that lemon flavor.
D-2: Finding one's inner energy is liking unlocking it with a key. Key...
D-3: Whatever type of orange that is, the carnivorous fish ain't liking it.
D-4: Despite the clue, I don't think the guy labelled by these symbols hangs out in casinos.
D-5: 60s music makes a great distraction from taking an arrow to the knee.
D-6: Wakka wakka. Eeh, the other guys are more worrying, this guy won't dare collide with me.
D-7: How many Es?
D-8: Not like I'd get Stars after slam dunking...

Extra hint rule still applies. This set is locked at11:59:)59)pm on Saturday 20th October, Pacific Time. Hope to see you in the drafts. ;P

too lazy to update first post atm

I feel nice today, have two hints per riddle. No extra hints that means ofc.

Title: Thank goodness I still have my 1-10 Dice Blocks! I'd hate having to use 1-6 all day >.<
A-1: What color is the D? That might help. // The guy represents a 'goon'.
A-2: How would you address someone with the title of KBE? // My belly can't stomach that first image... it's not what I think it is...
B-1: The guy who owns this one forgot to add his name to it. Who's the owner? Check A-2. (also my fault, I'll accept an answer with or without the owner) // Abbreviate SOMETHING.
B-2: Check the hiragana tables for that Asian character. // The blue square means something to do with the family... but be brief.
C-1: Find the character that means large/big, and pronounce it! // No, that isn't an axe on the right. I'd use that thing for mountain expeditions. (Not that I climb mountains.)
C-2: Just follow the string of objects to solve this one. // I don't harbor good feelings towards that seaside image...
D-1: Grass isn't ground so what is it? // SmitRem has nothing on my fog XD
D-2: The focus of attention is where...? // The name should ring a bell, but I don't know of any rings to pick up - you're playing the wrong game broski.
D-3: Hey! Don't listen! Just look! // Color is not always important.
D-4: It's sad that the original members of this children's show are no longer together... but their legacy wriggles on. // The guy at the bottom will 'something' from unwanted intruders...

Due 2:59:)59)am on Tuesday 23rd October, Pacific Time since this batch was late.

What has SZ got for you this new week? idk

P.S. Please leave a 140 character message on your thoughts of this activity so I can see if you now hate me for this or whether I'm being delusional and stuff. =P

And it's finally over! I'm sure y'all will say "Thank goodness HJ's off our backs now!"

A1 - Goomba's Greedy Gala - goon, Mars bars, green D - n, galah
A2 - Bowser Nightmare - Bowel, sir (as in KBE), night, mare
B1 - (Bowser's) Magma Mountain - magazine, Cooking Mama - cooking, N 10 ~Will accept with or without the Bowser's in it~

And now the moment of truth. Tasting and judgement - on the panel today are The final results......:

Dead last... the Saxobone Guys with absolutely nothing! Those skeletal dudes! Woah no cool! >:E

The Spiritual Fungi Kong Koopalings with a measly 10 points! At least you didn't cough it up like the bones ranked below you!

TheChaoticCriminalYoshis~ with 35 points! Evidently the competition got too chaotic for you!

Super Princess Mushroom Dino Force with a sizable packet of 145 points! The force be with you this day and always!

They are Rhapsody Core with a competition blitzing 345 points! That's just enough of a margin to net you a gold cup in Hoops 3-on-3! [size=6pt]Or something like that...

That's a wrap! Thanks everyone for participating, and hope you enjoy the SZ favorite, the Distorted Images!

Points will be added to the Master List real soon. Hang on to your Power Sneakers!
