An MPL Story: 999

So here's that story I was talking about sometime earlier in my blog, as I said before, it's based heavily based on one of my favorite games(Zero Escape: 999) so that kinda makes the title generic, but meh.

Here it is. As a note, everyone in this story is a member here on MPL. Have fun guessing who is who :)

9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3... 2... 1...

...

*BOOM*

An explosion could be heard. NFan jolted up from his nap.

"What was that?" He thought. But, as soon as he woke up, he realized he didn't recognize his surroundings.

It looked like a simple office. A desk with a laptop on it, a file cabinet, some painting, and a plant in the corner. NFan got up from the floor.

"Is there an earthquake?" The ground was still shaking from the explosion. He wasn't sure what to make of it.

Then he noticed the door. It didn't look like a normal wooden office door, it was made entirely out of metal. There was a number written rather obnoxiously on the door in red paint.

"Four..." NFan said out loud. He tried to open it, but it was locked. Next to the door was some weird device. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this was keeping the door locked. The device had a card reader and a lever. Pulling the lever did nothing.

NFan looked down at his wrist to see the time. Surprisingly, he did not see his own watch. He saw a red bracelet with the number 4 on its display.

"Four, again... Is this some sort of pattern?" NFan flipped his wrist over to remove it...

... Only to find that there was no latch. The bracelet was stuck on him. He sighed, and flipped it back over. That's when he noticed two small buttons on each side of the bracelet. He pushed them, hoping something would happen, but nope. Nothing.

The shaking from earlier seems to have stopped now. NFan could finally get his bearing.

That's when he realized something. Where were the windows? NFan looked around, and realized that a big metal plate was covering the window, The plate seemed to be a part of the wall at first, so he ignored it. He wasn't sure if he could even leave from the window anyway, since he didn't know how high he was.

Then it happened. NFan heard a cracking noise. He looked around to see where it was coming from, and then realized it was coming from the ceiling. He stepped out of the crack's way, not knowing what would fall from it.

A bomb fell. It had a timer on it, and it had 15 minutes before it would explode.

"Really? Okay, I have to get out of here now..."

NFan looked behind the desk, and realized there was a briefcase concealed under it. He took it out, and opened it. There was a blue folder with a paper in it.

"What's this?" NFan took the folder and opened it.

"As a friendly reminder, I will tell you workers how to see if you can go through the doors.

Calculate a digital root by adding all the numbers. If you end up with a double digit number, add the numbers in the tens place and the ones place. For example, the digital root of 249 is 6. 2 + 4 + 9 = 15. 1 + 5 = 6. The digital root of 5678 is 8. 5 + 6 + 7 + 8 = 26. 2 + 6 = 8."

That was all that was written. NFan didn't know what he just read, but he figured it may be important later. He noticed a key was taped to the bottom of the paper. He took it, not knowing what it was for. He then checked the laptop, but it would not boot up, sadly.

But luckily, he examined the file cabinets, and realized the cabinet at the bottom required a key to open. He tried it, and it unlocked. Inside were cards with the number 1-9 on them.

NFan went over to the door, and slid the card with the number 4 on the device, and pulled the lever. It gave an "error" sound.

"Wait a second... Maybe I need to create the digital root of 4?"

NFan looked back at the bomb. There were only 5 minutes left, so he had to hurry.

He did some quick math in his head and slid the cards 139 on the card reader, and pulled the lever. It gave a beeping noise of success, and he heard a small click.

"Okay, I need to leave, now..."

NFan opened the door, and ran... and ran... and ran. He did not want to be anywhere near the bomb when it detonated. He found some stairs, and ran up them. When he got up two floors...

*BOOM*

The bomb detonated. NFan stayed where he was and got a grip on a nearby door handle. The door was locked, so it wasn't a huge problem. The ground started to shake vigorously now. For some reason, NFan felt that the building was... falling. However, this stopped after a while. And finally, the shaking stopped.

NFan felt sick. He wanted to go home. Why was he here? Were there others as well? He didn't know. He got his bearings again, and went back to walking. He eventually found himself in a new, large room. It looked like a lobby.

Then he heard something. It sounded like footsteps. He looked up the stairs and saw people going down the stairs. NFan was surprised, as did the people that were on the stairs. Everyone just looked at each other for a moment until someone walked down all the way.

"Looks like there's another one of us." He said, standing in front of NFan. Then he ran past me. All the other people did too, for some reason.

The first person to pass him was a person that didn't really look like he was inclined to conversation. He wore a blue shirt, plad pants, and black shoes. He muttered, "One of us, huh?..." as he passed NFan.

Then there were two others. One of them was a man that looked tired, as if he could collapse and fall asleep any second. He also seemed to be, well... old. His attire consisted of a brown coat, gray shirt, blue jeans, and some red shoes.

"Young man," he started to speak, "If you want to get out of here, you should follow the rest of us."

The other person, seemed to be focused on their destination and didn't even say anything when he passed NFan. He looked like he was thinking about a lot of things, like some sort of scientist trying to solve an error in an experiment... NFan couldn't get a good look at what he was wearing, since the old man was standing in his way. In fact, he couldn't get a good look at anyone else because of the man.

"Okay, I'll follow." The man nodded, and pointed toward a hallway behind NFan. He ran down it, as did NFan.

They were in a new room this time, and this room consisted of four doors. Two of them, were quite large, and one of them had the number 3 written on it in red paint, the other had 6. The two other doors didn't have any numbers, but one of them had a keyhole. A Mushroom was engraved on it. No, not the real life mushroom, but the mushroom from Mario Party?... The last door, had no keyhole or number, but like the others, did not open.

"They're the same as the ones up there..." the old man said.

Then a new voice spoke up. Not in the same room, however. It came from the announcement speaker.

"Hello and welcome. Today you are going to participate in a game. The [Nonary Game]."

"What's the Nonary Game?" NFan said out loud.

"The [Nonary Game]," the speaker said, as if it was responding, "it is a game... Where you will put your life on the line."

"That doesn't sound pleasant."

"On September 11th, 2001, terrorists crashed airplanes into the world trade center, and it collapsed within 2 hours. However, I will give you more time. 9 Hours. 9 Hours to escape. The rules and instructions on how to play can be found on the person with the number (4) bracelet. Have fun." The speaker stopped its announcement.

Everyone looked around for a bit, and all eyes landed on NFan. He dug into his pocket, and found a piece of paper.

"I guess I'll read it out loud to everyone." NFan said. "Ahem..."

"The [Nonary Game]. By now, you must have noticed the doors with large numbers on them. Let's call them the [numbered doors]. You can only open a numbered door if the people that want to go through it create a digital root of the number on the door. For example, the people with the bracelet 1-2-3-4 can go through the number 1 door, since 1234 forms the digital root of 1. How, you may ask, will this work? At each door, there is a Recognition Device that will scan your bracelet. If the numbers scanned create the correct digital root, the door will open. However, only the people that verified at the Recognition Device can only go through. Why? When you go though a numbered door, a timer will start on the bracelet. In 81 seconds, it will send a signal to a bomb in your body telling it to explode. The people who verified at the Recognition Device also have to verify at the Deactivation Device, which is beyond the numbered door. This will stop the timer. Those that didn't veryify at the Recognition Device will not be able to verify at the Deactivation Device. Only a maximum of 5 can pass through a door, and a minimum of 3. This guarantees that the rules of the numbered doors will be followed. You might also be wondering, how to remove the bracelets. There are only two ways to do so: 1. You escape. 2. Your heartbeat reaches zero. In other words, until you leave this building or die, the bracelet will be on your left wrist forever. The goal of the [Nonary Game] is to escape. Seek the numbered door that carries a (9), and you will be able to leave."

Everyone seemed to be in deep thought now. NFan realized, that there probably will be a fight for who goes through the 9 door, even though it's just the matter of adding up the numbers. Then all eyes turned to the 3 and 6 doors. The Recognition Device on both doors read "Vacant," as if waiting for us to scan our bracelets.

"Before we go into the numbered doors," NFan said, "All of us need to exchange information."

"What do you mean?" Someone said.

"I mean, I want to know who you guys are. After all, it'll be difficult to talk to each other if we don't have something to call each other."

There was an awkward silence. Then the old man spoke up.

"I'm sorry if I'm being paranoid, but what if the mastermind, the person that setup all of this, is listening in? He might have picked random people, and might be wanting to get our information. Then he could use it against us and tell our close relatives that nothing is wrong and that we're doing a errand for him or something."

Another person spoke up, "Then I suggest this; we should all have codenames, based on our bracelet number, perhaps? Mine is 3."

He held up his left hand, and the bracelet did indeed display a 3.

"I would like to be called Nac. North America is the third largest continent in the world, and Nac is a kind of abbreviation for it."

"Alright then," the old man spoke up, "Mine is 1."

He held up his left hand, and again, the display showed a 1.

"I think I should be called Neo. It means 'One,' or 'The one.'"

NFan spoke up. "I'm 4, which all of you knew already." He held up his left hand, and it showed a 4. "I want to be called Charmander, because it is the 4th pokemon in the Dex."

Then, surprisingly, the person that didn't look inclined to conversation spoke up.

"My number is 9." He said oddly quietly, but loud enough for everyone to hear. He held out his left hand, and again, a 9 showed itself.

"Please," he started to say, "Call me Nine. I know it's not very creative, but I can't think of anything else."

Everyone nodded.

"I've been given a 2." Someone continued, and held out his left hand. He wasn't lying.

"In that case, I would like to be called Water. Water is the second most important thing you need to survive."

"I have 8." The next person lifted their left hand lazily, as if they were bored.

"Call me Stanley. In a game called the stanley parable demo, there were hilarious references to 8."

"Um, I have a 6." This was getting a little annoying, but he held out his left hand, and it showed a 6.

"I would prefer if all of you called me Noon. You see, in Mario Party 6, there is a day and night system. the middle of day and night is noon."

"I got a 5." He showed his left hand, and the bracelet showed a 5.

"Call me May. It's the fifth month of the year."

Then finally, the last person spoke up.

"My bracelet shows a 7." He held up his left hand. Even though it was only done nine times, NFan felt like it was done a million times.

"I want the codename of Space. Super Mario Galaxy is the seventh mainstream Mario game, and it takes place in space." It makes sense, doesn't it?

After that, NFan decided to run the codenames in his head, one more time.

(1) was Neo.
(2) was Water.
(3) was Nac.
(4) was NFan's number, and had given himself the codename of Charmander.
(5) was May.
(6) was Noon.
(7) was Space.
(8 ) was Stanley.
and (9) was Nine. Everything was setup.

"Now then," Nac spoke up, "Who's going in which door?"

All eyes turned to the numbered doors once again. Noon spoke up. "I want door 3. Who wants to come with me?"

"I'll go with you." Neo responded. "But who will come with us?"

"Wait a second, if Nac and I join you two, the problem is solved, right?" Water spoke up.

1 + 2 + 3 + 6 = 12 1 + 2 = 3.

Nac spoke up. "I'll actually be fine with that."

"But wait," Noon said, "What's the other people's digital root gonna be?"

NFan did some math in his head.

4 + 5 + 7 + 8 + 9 = 33 3 + 3 = 6.

"It's 6." NFan said in response to Noon.

"Then I guess everything works out." Neo stated. He headed toward door 3.

NFan thought about it for a second. Did he really want door 6?

So this is where the story stops, for now. I'm actually planning this story to be interactive. Like when I update the story next time, you can read what happens when you go through door 6 and what happens when you go through door 3. It's like a choose your own adventure kind of thing. Anyway, some feedback is appreciated.

Wow I really love this as well!
Oh yeah i'll play if it's interactive  :p
I really like the "Nine" dude xD Also, nice Nintendo references  :p
Also, why are we talking in spoiler? To be sure other people see the text first?
I had a feeling someone would ask about that. :p And yeah, I think it's because we want people to read the story before looking at the reactions.

A note:

I forgot to mention that the numbered doors close after 9 seconds after it opens. So yeah, remember that.

Nine is gonna become somewhat important later. You'll see why.

I decided to rush and complete the 3/6 doors :p So it might not be good. Anyway...

Neo started to walk toward door 3. Water, Nac, and Noon followed.

...

NFan said nothing. He decided that door 6 would be fine. Why would he think otherwise anyway? The teams were all assembled already, so there wasn't much he could do.

Neo stood in front of the Recognition device. He carefully placed his left palm onto the scanner, and then it beeped. An asterisk appeared on the screen. The three others did the same.

"Okay guys, I'm gonna open it..." Noon said. He pulled down the lever. The door slowly opened. The four walked in. Within nine seconds, the door closed.

"What's happening over there?" Stanley said out loud. The five went over to the number 3 door, trying to listen in.

"There's a beeping sound..." Nine said.

"Guys wait!" Noon said, seemingly yelling. "We gotta authenticate at the Deactivation device!"

Soon after, there were four beeping sounds, and the sound of a lever being pulled. The beeping from earlier stopped.

"Are you guys okay?" NFan asked.

"Yep." Neo responded. "We're gonna move on, you guys should go through the number 6 door."

There were footsteps, and before long, they were gone. The group of five moved to the 6 door, and authenticated at the Recognition device.

"Okay, I'm gonna open it..." Stanley said, and pulled the lever. The door opened, and the five leapt through. As soon as they did, though...

... A cold beeping noise came from all of their left wrists. A transparent red skull had appeared on the display. The countdown had begun, no doubt about it.

"Where's the Deactivation device?" Nine said out loud. That's when they all realized the same thing he did; it wasn't here.

"It has to be down the hallway!" Galaxy yelled. "Go! Go! GO!"

The others didn't needed to be told twice. They ran down the hallway as fast as they could, and the Deactivation device was at the end of the hallway. All of the quickly verified, and NFan pulled the lever to stop the countdown.

*pant *pant *pant*

Everyone took a while to catch their breaths. When they did, they proceeded through a door right next to the Deactivation device.

The new room they were in was like an office with a bunch of cubicles. May went to the back of the room, which had another door. He went back to explain.

"The door's locked, but there's a card reader next to it. If we can find the card, we'll likely be able to open the door."

Everyone nodded. Then everyone split up to look in the cubicles. NFan went into one, and noticed it had a computer. He pressed the power button, and surprisingly, it started to boot up. The computer itself was very old, and had Windows XP installed on it. When it finished booting up, it showed a clean desktop, with only Internet Explorer on it.

"Well, it's a long shot, but..." NFan double clicked on Internet Explorer, hoping that the computer was connected to the internet.

Surprisingly, when it launched, a webpage loaded. But NFan didn't know what to make if it. He couldn't even change the address in the URL bar. On the site was some sort of flash game with a few colored blocks.

"I guess this is some sort of puzzle." Stanley said, stepping into the cubile NFan was in.

"Yeah." NFan replied. "Well, I'm gonna try to solve it."

NFan sat down and stared at the puzzle. He tried moving the blocks, and then that's when weird things started to happen. The blocks arranged themselves in a 3x3 grid.

"Uh..."

NFan clicked around for a bit. He eventually got all the blocks to the same color: green. A beeping noise came from the computer, and unexpectedly, the disc drive ejected. A CD with the label "12/1/01" was in the drive. NFan took the disc, thinking that he might need it later.

"December 1st, 2001?..." NFan muttered to himself as he left the cubicle. Then the team reassembled itself, all seemingly to have found a disc with a date on it.

"It's not likely," May said, "But it could also mean Day/Month/Year, as that's the way it is in the rest of the world. So Charmander's disc could also read 'January 12th, 2001.' However, since this is apparently a building based off of one in New York, I don't think that's the case."

Then Nine spoke up.

"I think I may have saw another computer that may be able to read these discs like a normal computer... I don't think the ones that we got them from will be, because they were, let's say 'specially programmed' for this game."

Everyone looked at each other, then agreed. Nine went to the computer he claimed to have saw. However, this was not in a cubicle, it was in a very tight hallway near the exit that May failed to notice. Then there it was; a computer idling on the desktop, waiting. NFan put his disc in the disc slot, and inserted it into the computer. A program automatically launched and seemingly began to read the content on the disc.

Then it stopped, and ejected the disc. Everyone decided that it would be best to make the computer read all the discs. So everyone else who had a disc made the computer read them, one by one. Then, after it was done reading all of it, another program launched. The window for it was small, and only had two buttons on it "Print Key" and "Power." NFan clicked on Print Key, which did nothing. So he clicked on Power, and before long, noises could be heard in the room with all the cubicles. Stanley, Space, and May went to investigate.

"Oh." May said out loud. "A few of the devices here are now powered, including this printer. Try pressing Print Key again?"

NFan did as instructed, and a new noise pervaded the room. It was coming from the printer. It finished printing, well, something. Stanley lifted the cover and saw a white piece of paper with the words "PLT" printed on it. He took it, and realized there was a key card under the printer glass.

"Uh." Space said, not sure what to say. He carefully slid off the printer glass, and took the key card. It had a plunder chest on it. He went over to the card reader at the exit, slid the card, and heard the door unlock.

"Well, that was easy. Guys come on, the door is unlocked now."

The other four gathered in front of the door, and Space pushed it open. They walked through. Now they were in a new room, this one had two doors. One was locked, and the other was a double door, and it happened to be not locked. NFan opened the door, to find a... bar? Everyone poured into the room, not sure what to say.

"Let's get to work." NFan said, and started to look around for the key. Everyone else did the same.

Stanley noticed a strange device under the counter. It was a keypad, with 4 slots on the display screen.

"If anyone finds a code, tell me, okay?" Stanley said.

Space walked into the bathroom. In it was the numbers "845" spray painted onto the wall, with a plus symbol on the side.

"I think I found the code you were looking for." Space said, walking out of the bathroom. Stanley went into it.

"No, I need a four digit code. I think we need to add 845 to something."

"Then the real question is, what are we adding it to?"

"Pretty much. Now then..."

Stanley walked into one of the stalls. There was some sort of weird black liquid on the toilet bowl.

"Uh, can someone hand me some water?"

Space went back out and found a bucket under the counter. Then he went back in and filled it up with the sink.

"Here you go."

Stanley filled the toilet, and flushed it. It revealed another "code."

"987 =..."

"845 + 987 = what?" Space said.

"... 1832. Let's try it..."

Stanley went out of the bathroom, and tried it on the keypad. It read "released" and a key popped out of the side.

"Guys, I got the key to the other door. Let's go."

Everyone didn't say a word, and followed him. They went back out, and unlocked the door. Stanley opened it, and they were in a wide room. This room had 3 double doors, and another single door parallel to the one we just came out of. NFan tried the other single door, but it was locked. Then he turned to the double doors, and realized they weren't locked.

NFan threw the door open. They were in a new room. The first thing they noticed was...

"[Numbered doors]..." May said, looking at them. There were three doors this time, and they had the numbers 1, 2, and 5. There was a fourth door that had no number, and was between the 2 and 5 door, but it wouldn't open.

"I guess we have to split up even more now?" Space said, looking at the doors.

"I don't think so." Stanley said. "Maybe-"

Stanley was interrupted by the sound of a door opening. From it came the team that went through the 3 door. Neo, Water, Nac, and Noon.

Everyone, at first, seemed confused.

NFan spoke up. "I think we were gonna meet up eventually, otherwise we wouldn't be able to open the 9 door. Well actually, May, Nine, and I could have, but I'm not going to leave anyone behind, and I hope the two others feel the same."

Everyone seemed to agree with NFan.

"Wait!" NFan screamed.

The four stopped and looked back at NFan.

"I want to go through door 3 also."

Nac rubbed his temple.

"Now we're back to square 1. We have to reassemble teams-"

"Actually," Neo interjected, "It's very simple. I actually thought about this prematurely, if anybody wanted to switch doors. All we have to do is make Nac and I go through door 6 and Charmander and Nine through door 3. The digital roots will stay the same."

Nine flinched at the mention of his name. Then he caught on and shrugged.

"Alright then." Nac said.

Before long, new teams were assembled.

The people going through door 3:

Water, NFan, Noon, and Nine.

The people going through door 6:

Neo, Nac, May, Space, and Stanley.

Water stood in front of the Recognition device. He placed his left palm on the scanner, and then it beeped. An asterisk appeared on the display. The three other followed suit.

"Ready, guys?" NFan said. "I"m gonna open the door..."

They nodded, and NFan pulled down the lever. The door slowly opened. The four walked in quickly.

Then it happened. A beeping noise came from all of their left wrists. NFan looked at the bracelet, and a transparent red skull had appeared on the display. It seems, that the countdown had started. When all of them had looked down at their wrists...

... The numbered door shut closed behind them. Luckily, the Deactivation device was near the door, so the four quickly verified. NFan pulled down the lever, the skull disappeared, and the beeping stopped.

"Good... It stopped." Nine said.

"Is everything alright in there?" Neo asked from the other side of the door.

"Yep! Everything's A-Okay!" Water responded.

Everyone on the other side of the door had sighed a sigh of relief. They knew they were safe, and could progress.

"We're moving out," NFan said. "Good luck to the rest of you!"

"Alright, goodbye." Galaxy said. There were footsteps going away, and before long, the four were alone again.

"Okay, let's go." Water said and walked down the hallway.

The hallway had a sharp 90-degree turn angle to the left. They all walked down it until they faced a door.

"We should, uh, go in here." NFan said, and opened the door. The four found themselves in a cafeteria.

"A cafeteria?" Nine said out loud. Noon walked around to a nearby door, and tried to open it. It was locked, not surprisingly. He went back to the others.

"It's locked, but there was something I noticed about it. It has a keyhole with a skeleton key from Mario Party engraved on it. So essentially like the door we saw up there."

"So if we get the key to that door, we'll likely be able to open that door if we somehow get back there?" NFan asked.

"So I assume." Noon responded. "The key has to be somewhere in this room, so let's start looking."

They all nodded. NFan went over to the counter. Luckily, there didn't seem to be any food in the trays; otherwise it would probably be making a weird smell. He went around to the other side and looked around. There didn't seem to be anything there, sadly. There was a another door here, seemingly for a freezer, but it was locked. "Could any of you guys find a key? Like, not the key to the exit but just any key."

Nine went and looked under all the tables. Surprisingly, there was one metal key taped under one. He took it, and ran to NFan.

"Here, Charmander. Are you gonna try to open the freezer?"

"Yeah. Even though it'll be cold, the key to the exit may be in there."

He put the key in the keyhole, and felt the door unlock. He opened it, and was greeted with a blast of cold air. He stepped in, shivering. Nine followed, but causiously. In the freezer, they found a bunch of frozen chicken and pork. However, there was a piece of paper hidden under one of the frozen chicken. NFan took it, and got out of there. He felt like he was gonna freeze to death if he stayed in there any longer.

He opened the piece of paper, and found the words C+10+E on it.

"What does this mean?" NFan found himself saying out loud. Nine came out of the freezer and looked over NFan's shoulder.

"Ah, perhaps it's in hex."

"What?"

"In hex, when you go beyond 9, it turns into a letter. So 10 is A, 11 is B, 12 is C... And so on."

"So the answer is 36..."

"Yeah." Nine said. "Maybe there's some sort of keypad around here that requires you to enter 36."

Coincidentally, as soon as Nine said that, Water found a hidden keypad near a door that they did not try to open yet. Water tried it, and it was locked. Again.

NFan walked up to him and said "Here, maybe this will unlock it." He typed in 36, pressed enter, and then he heard a clicking noise, NFan tried to open the door, and it gave way.

"Okay, let's see what we can find." Water said as he followed NFan into the new room. It was a room full of shelves with random items on it.

"Uh, what is this place?" NFan said out loud as he was looking around. At the end of the room, however, there was something consistent. There were lines apon lines of cans of paint.

"Could it be that there may be something hidden in the cans of paint, or behind them?" Water said as he looked into a few of the cans.

NFan looked behind the can that had the most ugliest color. He had no words to describe it except.. Putrid. However, there was a key behind it. And it so happens to have a skeleton key engraved on the handle.

"Oh hey, what do you know." NFan said out loud, and walked out of the room. "Guys, I found the key. We can go now."

They all gathered in front of the door, and NFan slid the key into the keyhole. He felt the door unlock.

"Okay, let's go." Noon said. NFan nodded, and opened the door. They were in a white hallway again, and walked down it until they found themselves in a new room.

The room itself was split in half. In the middle, there was a bars that you might see for a jail cell. Shaking them didn't seem to make it want to come apart. On the other side of the bars was just a big double door and a staircase leading up.

There were two elevators to the side. They didn't seem to be operating or have any power, though. There was a card reader between them with a plunder chest engraved on it. If we want these doors to operate, we'll likely need to find a plunder chest key card.

Only one door was left, and it was a big double door.

"I guess this is our only option." Noon said. He walked up to the door and opened it.

Inside the room was a... Movie theater? The four poured into the room, not sure what to say.

Nine went over to the other side of the room, and tried to open the door there. It was locked. He kicked the door and went back to the others.

"If we can open that door, we can get to the other side of the bars." Nine explained.

"Alright, let's get to work then." NFan said, and started to look around. He went up to the room where the movie would be projected, but for some reason, this was an old style theater... It has a projector for old film reels.

"Uh, anyone got any film reels?" NFan asked everyone down there. Water came up and handed him one, surprisingly.

"I found this under one of the seats. Give it a try, see if it displays anything." Water explained. NFan put the reel into the projector, and pressed play.

At first, there was nothing on screen. Then a 5 flashed on screen.

"Five?" NFan said. He stopped the projector and took the film out. He looked around the room a little bit more, and realized there was a piece of paper hidden under the projector. NFan took it, and realized it was a map of this floor.

"This is gonna be useful, but I don't really need it now." So NFan folded it and put it in his pocket.

Noon looked around at the movie screen, and realized there was a door hidden behind the curtains. He opened it, and there were a whole lot of cabinets, presumably for storing film. There was one cabinet with a whole bunch of film reels, and a keypad was right next to it. But surprisingly, the keypad wasn't for the cabinet, as it was already unlocked. He took the few that were in there and headed toward the projector room.

"Here's some more film reels. If they're like the first one, then it likely spells out some sort of code. I think it's for a keypad I found in the storage room."

"Right. But the question is, what order do we put them in?" NFan replied to Noon. This is when he noticed a small number on the reels. In fact, all of them had a number.

"Maybe you should put them in order. So film reel 1 will have the first number, film reel 2 will have the second number, and so on."

So NFan did just that. There were six reels in all, and the code spelled out "735619." Noon went back to the storage room and typed in the exact numbers. It then showed "Open" in all green text.

"Well, I got something open." Noon yelled back to the others.

It was a small chance, but NFan went over to the exit and tried to open it. Surprisingly, that's what the keypad unlocked.

"Oh." NFan said out loud. "The exit is unlocked guys, let's go."

The other three gathered in front of the door, and NFan pushed it open. They found themselves in the room they were in not too long ago; the room split in half. The four walked up the stairs without saying anything.

When they reached the top, they were at a new floor. However, this room only had one door, and it was locked. There was a keyhole, but no symbol engraved above it. The only other option was another staircase that seemed to lead much further down into the building.

"Well, maybe the key's down there." Water said. "Let's go. We can't-"

Before Water could finish, an announcement began. However, it was not the person's voice they heard at the 3/6 doors; this one seemed to be a computer generated one.

"It is now 10PM. You have 8 hours left." That was all it said.

"... Yeah." Water continued. "I was saying we couldn't waste any time. Even though we have eight hours left, we don't know how big this building is yet, and we might not find the 9 door in time if we mess around too much. Anyway, let's go." Water started to walk down the stairs. The other three followed him, not having much to say.

They found themselves in yet another storage room. However, this seemed to be a general storage room, as in, there's no specific item you have to store in here. There were tons of wooden boxes.

"Don't tell me the key is in one of those boxes..." Nine said. NFan just shrugged and started looking. No sense in complaining when we have so few time. Everyone did the same. However, NFan didn't look in the boxes around him, he just went to the back of the room. There was a half open box. NFan peeked in, and there was a key... On top of several red bracelets, much like the ones they were wearing. NFan took the key, obviously, but he got curious about the bracelets. Why were they here? All of them seemed to be off though, as none of them showed a number.

NFan picked one up, and pressed the buttons. Nothing. Was the bracelet even powered? He then held down both buttons, and...

A beeping sound came from the bracelet. A dash slowly flashed on the display, as if it was turning on and loading something. Then something he hadn't expected would happen, happened.

A number showed itself on the display, and the bracelet beeped once again. The number, was, however...

"(0)..." NFan said quietly.

Then NFan realized something. If this bracelet worked at the Recognition and Deactivation device, then it is a very powerful bracelet. Adding it to any number won't change the digital root. Why would such a thing even be here? Did the mastermind put this here to try and tempt someone, to gain this advantage? To possibly turn themselves against the others?

He felt a little guilty about it, but he tucked the (0) bracelet deep away into his pocket. He then went back to the others and told them they found the key.

Back to where they were a few minutes ago, NFan unlocked the door, and opened it.

"When are we ever gonna catch a break from this, seriously..." Nine said quietly, and walked into the new room. His wishes were granted, apparently, because they heard voices not far from where they were. They were behind a door, so Nine went up to it and opened the door.

Somewhat surprisingly, they found the other team that went through door 6. They seemed confused, as well as Nine, Water, and Noon.

NFan spoke up. "I think it was inevitable that we were gonna meet up again. Otherwise, we wouldn't be able to open the 9 door. Well, actually, Neo, Nac, and May could have, but I don't think they'd leave behind the rest of us."

Everyone seemed to agree with NFan. Then, NFan decided to get a good look of the room they were in. It seemed very empty, almost as empty as the room the 3/6 doors were at... NFan looked at the back of the room. There were doors. Not normal doors, but... [numbered doors]. There were 3 of them this time. 1, 2, and 5. But, there was a door with no number between 2 and 5. Why? Unfortunately, it wouldn't open.

NFan went over to the numbered doors. They, of course, wouldn't open normally, but it was worth checking to see if they were real. The recognition device also seemed to be operating normally, as all of them read "Vacant."

"Neo... Can you do a favor for me?"

"Sure. What is it?"

"Could you please verify at this Recognition device here at door 5?"

"Uh..." Neo said, confused. "Why?"

"Just do it. If the door opens, don't go in."

Neo gave NFan a confused look. Then he decided it wasn't going to do him any harm, so he verified.

"Thanks." NFan told him.

"Now," NFan thought, "This should work... right?"

0 + 1 + 4 = 5

NFan verified his own bracelet. Then he dug out the (0) bracelet with his right hand and waved it over the Recognition device scanner. A third asterisk appeared.

"What the? Where'd you get another bracelet?" May asked.

NFan put it back in his pocket, and seemingly ignoring May, pulled the lever.

The door opened. After 9 seconds, it closed again.

NFan turned around and faced May. "I found it in one of the rooms beyond the 3 door. I will promise, that I will not use the bracelet irrationally."

May had a confused look, similar to the one that Neo had. Then he shrugged it off and walked away.

I'm not sure how I'm going to pull off the next part on this site. I think I'll have to do something with Google Docs. Anyway, feel free to discuss what you think will happen what what doors you wanna go through.

So what are our choices?

If you're talking about the doors, then I have to write it, what happens. I can't write a story at the snap of a finger, and I know you especially can't.
But I was asking all the possible doors we could go through.

If you actually read the story, you would know the doors would be 1, 2, and 5.

It's been a year since I updated, so may as well :p

Anyway, I'm losing inspiration for this story and it's basically turning into this thing where the plot now borrows a lot from 999's plot and other things. So there are two ways I could do this:

1. Have it the way it is now, which is essentially a ripoff, and get chapters out faster
2. Rewrite the story so it's not such a big of a ripoff, and have chapters get out very slowly

Which do you guys want?

Probably 2 if it makes it more interesting :)
Also, if you choose incorrectly, is there a chance you may die?
