I know, I LOVE the Mario Party N64 Games. But I seriously think they are too overrated, just because of nostalgia, ignoring the new ones. I am sick of these people who judge the games in nostalgia. Seriously, new games have good stuffs, like 3D Boards, Day and Night, Lottery, or even fun minigames! People should stop overrating N64 games just because of nostalgia.

So, what do you think?  :)

I think we like them more because we played them as children and that is something you can never replace.

You can't beat Mario Party 3 ~ no matter what you do!

...Maybe MP 1 and 2, but never 3!

I definitely disagree, they are not overrated at all. Also, Nostalgia is a very powerful feeling, y'know. I hate when people complain about people having nostalgia, if that game is special to them/one of the reasons they like the game cuz it brings back their childhood, then why judge?

I have a lot of nostalgia with the older games (MP1-MP5 bring nostalgia to me) cuz I've played them a lot as a child. Doesn't mean I don't like the other games (I loved MP7), just means I like the older ones better cuz they remind me of happy times in my life. MP3 especially. :D

I think we like them more because we played them as children and that is something you can never replace.
Plum pretty much summarized. =P

Yeah, I totally agree with you LuigiParty. N64 Mario Party's could not be more overrated in my opinion. They are just saying "don't play GCN Mario Party's because they are just not nostalgic and too repetitive yet MP2 and 3 are just as repetitive"

....or something to that effect.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think they are horrible, in fact I quite like MP3 to an extent, but they are nowhere near amazing in my opinion.

Because people are rating them on PURELY NOSTALGIA which isn't sensible at all. You're supposed to rate games on actual gameplay, and other miscellaneous things, but not just nostalgia! That's just nerve-wrecking.  :-\

I don't see why people make a fuss about people liking the games due to nostalgia. What SpiderStaryu said is very true, nostalgia is a powerful feeling. Without the nostalgia, it probably wouldn't push us to continue playing the whole MP series.

Even though my favorite is 5, the best one is 3. It had the best gameplay with the boards, minigames, item systems, story mode, duel mode, etc. While the game brings out the most nostalgia, due to this being the first MP my friends and I played, it's not overrated. I admit that MP1 was not the best one even though it was the first in the series, it was like a prototype for the series. Also, MP2 was okay, just not as good as MP3 imo.

Who's saying that?? =P I really want to know, I keep hearing you say people say that, yet I haven't seen it all. Have I seen people praise MP1-3? Oh yes. But I haven't seen hating on the other Mario Parties, just people showing love to games they've loved for so long. What's wrong with that? I can't believe you would hate games just cuz people like them.

WHO!? Who's rating it PURELY on nostalgia? People can like games for whatever reason. Like I said to Luigi Party, if they liked the game just cuz it brings them happy times, then who are you to judge? =P

Like everyone said, I played the old MP games because they bring back childhood memories.  I loved Mario Party 3 when I was about 8 years old.  It was like one of the best games I ever played.  <3  I liked 2, but even that game could not top MP3.  I liked Mario Party 3 MORE than just "nostalgia".  I loved MP3 because it had a good story, good boards, good music, good character roster (Back then, of course), and pretty good minigames.  Sure, it had some flaws (I don't like the star ranking system in story mode.), but I still loved it nonetheless.

Don't get me wrong.  I still love the GCN Mario Party games, because they too bring back memories.  Both GCN and N64 are nice to play once in a while.

Could not agree more! I never choose the best game based on which one I'm used to, or played when I was younger, I choose them based on which is actually the better game. I do occasionally like to play games I played when I was younger, but they are never the best. I like to live in the present, not the past! And things do get better in time through innovation. I'd rather play a video game / watch a TV show/Film from today rather than from 10 or 20 years ago.

However, the Mario Party series is, probably, the only video game franchise where the older games are better than the newer ones overall in my opinion, due to better gameplay. This mainly includes better speed and minigames. Mario Party 9 definitely improved on the GCN Mario Party's due to that, making it N64 Mario Party quality!

-Crash Bandicoot 1-3, CTR, and Crash Bash (All PS1 Games, all Best-Selling hits) ----transition to PS2/Beyond----> Wrath of Cortex (mixed reviews, slow loading times with clunky controls and average graphics), Crash Tag Team Racing (horrible controls, poor reviews), Crash of the Titans (mixed reviews, nice change of gameplay but not something fans wanted)

-Spyro The Dragon 1-3 (All PS1 Games, all Best-Selling Hits. Best environments, best exploration gameplay) -------transition to PS2/Beyond-----------> Enter The Dragonfly (Slow loading times, clunky controls, horrible voice acting, but overall good design), Legend of Spyro series (mixed reviews, radical change in gameplay turned a lot of fans off), Skylanders spin-off is the only new Spyro games that have been positive

Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie (both sold a good amount and has maintained a solid fanbase) --------Microsoft acquires Rare-------> Nuts and Bolts changes collective gameplay and moves towards vehicles. Fans do not like this change and it receives mixed reviews.

Just because a game is old and people have a strong nostalgic feeling for it doesn't mean it's worst than the shovelware/crapware s*** they are releasing these days. When you grow older, you probably will understand that these games have a solid value in our hearts, and for developers such as the examples above to basically castrate them by replacing SOLID gameplay that nobody complained about to a s***ty new way of playing the game that everybody hates is somewhat of a HUGE problem.

IF IT AIN'T BROKEN DON'T FIX IT.

I heard aegis say something similar to that. Also, that was a general statement, I don't even remember every single soul who said something like it. But for the most part when I'm online, that's what I hear when regarding MP. plus:
I give it an 8/10 purely for nostalgia factor. Honestly, I don't remember much about MP1.. haven't played in ages. I remember Mario's Rainbow Castle/Quite a few of the mini-games tho. I loved the one player Koopa shell mini-game/the bicycle Boo mini-game that gave me blisters :P.

ALSO, the original Platform Peril! Much better than the remake.

Also, aegis, please calm down, why are you going and posting mean reaction images calling people idiots?  >:(

Aegis... It's about time I responded to your crap response

  • 3 examples is not enough to convince me. I've never even played those games.
  • That's the critics' opinions. I make my own decisions, critics take games too seriously for me
  • Stop being mean to people who disagree with you. Calling others idiots makes you a bully

Its not just the critics opinion if you read it he said fans and critics. Even if it is the critics opinion they are right. You cant take a popular series then give it crappy gameplay and expect people to like it. Thats what happens to series that have a numerous amount of games under its belt.

Take the Sonic games for example the older ones were GREAT till up to Sonic 06 where everything crashed down. In most cases the older games are the better ones. Nostalgia may play a role but what we liked from those old games were its gameplay.
