Why did Mario Party have 8 Boards?
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:38:21 PM »
Why is it that the the first Mario Party ended up having the most boards in the series?

I have to say that the quality of these eight boards... not the best. I enjoyed the boards from MP2 and on better than the first game's boards.

I guess they wanted to have a board named after every playable character, in which that was six, plus a Bowser board, and another board for going with the story. Maybe that's how it came to be.

Well the first boards may not be the best, but it was their first attempt. So it makes sense that they wouldn't be perfect.

Mario Party 1 had nine boards if you count the mini-game stadium.

True, but the Mini-Game Stadium wasn't necessary to the regular game play. It's just board for practicing mini-games. The good thing is, you still collect the coins after it.

They didn't know the limit since it was just a party game. I'm not even sure how much they planned on having a sequel.

it was the first game, sheesh, give em' a break lol

8 probably because the boards were smaller. And they were definitely not bad, only one I can honestly say was "bad", is Bowser's Magma Mountain lol

My thoughts exactly.

I'm not sure how else the 8 boards would've came to be. But it still puzzles me why they decided to never do 7 or more boards in another Mario Party game.

Actually, a lot of Mario Parties have more than six boards:

Mario Party 2: 7 if you count Mini-game Stadium.
Mario Party 3: 12 including the duel boards.
Mario Party 4: 8 with the mega and mini boards.
Mario Party 5: 7 normal boards.
Mario Party 6: 9 counting the single player boards.
