Anyone who thinks Super Mario Sunshine is a bad game needs to play more games.
I think it's a bad MARIO game. Does this mean I'm not a gaming expert?
When I expected a sequel to Mario 64, I wanted something that stuck to the formula but also introduced exciting new ways to move around and solve puzzles. While the "secret" stages in Sunshine accomplished this for me, the rest of the game falls really flat on its ass. Most of the episodes are either "clean the goop", "get 8 red coins", or "do the secret stage"; very repetitive nature and it gets old fast. Some episodes that have large amounts of old-school platforming, such as "The Caged Shine Sprite" or "The Runaway Ferris Wheel", do well for me, even with the FLUDD gimmick. I thought the biggest kick in the balls was the Blue Coin hunt. Nintendo pretty much wasted 24 Shine Sprites that could have been dedicated to Episodes or Side-quests, and I really think they got lazy in that regard. Collecting 100 Gold Coins and 8 Red Coins is enough coin hunting for me.
Anyways, for my Mario games I HATE, it would have to be Sunshine, Galaxy, SMB2USA, NSMBWii, and Hotel Mario. And no, I'm not hating on Hotel Mario because of the AVGN or because of the cheesy cut-scenes, I'm hating it because the gameplay sucks big time.
