Title: [MP3] Star Summit
Post by: SuperZambezi on August 27, 2017, 03:38:04 AM
Just posted a new board!

I'd love to hear some feedback after you get a chance to play. I feel like the spaces are a bit lacking in variety - and I wish the happening spaces could do something!

This looks very very good! And I like how the space variety is kinda mild on this one  :P Feels more balanced.

I can't get over how nice this looks. How did you make the logo text? It looks very clean and official. It makes me so happy to see such a highly polished, well-made board... This is the exact kind of thing I had in mind when Party Planner was announced. So good!

Just played it with a friend! The first thing I noticed while playing on real hardware was that the background looks ever so slightly blurrier than the original boards and Paradise Isles. It's not major, and you're obviously not at fault; your skilled craftsmanship is abundantly clear looking at the modeling itself. It's an unfortunate problem, but it's not too major. I'm wondering if the background was accidentally lower resolution than 1152 x 864, or if possibly anti-aliasing was disabled when the shot was taken. I just wanted to let you know so you could look into it. Also, how did you go about taking the screenshot in Sketchup? Anyway, minor flaw aside, the board was a blast to play on. The mild space distribution, while not the most exhilarating, was a perfect fit for the peaceful and dreamlike setting, and it ensured the board's balance. Game Guy spaces, along with chance time, balanced out the relative calmness of the rest of the board perfectly. The layout felt like it belonged perfectly in the original game, and the two-star difficulty rating was quite accurate. Overall, a truly great board! That definitely won't be the last time I play it.

Looks like a great board!

When the background images are applied to the game, they must be lowered to 16 bit RGBA. PP64 does a very basic conversion from 32 bit down to 16 bit. You could possibly see better results if you use an image editor to lower the colors down to 16 bit yourself before setting the image in PP64.

Yeah, maybe I'm crazy, I just feel like the edges are more jagged and less clear than other boards... Like I said, it's only minor, the board is great. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it xD

Thank you for the kind words everyone!

So actually with the background, I ended up making the entire thing a slightly blurring it. I did this because the paths always come out looked very jagged and this helped smooth it out a bit. Any easy way to make the paths look cleaner without touching the background?

As for taking the screenshot in Blender, I just lined it up until it looked right. It's annoying and takes a while, but I don't see another way to do it as of now. I made a save file with that angle that I could go back to as reference if I make any other changes.

Yeah, taking the screenshot is a pain. I don't really know how to help with the jagged paths... In sketchup the whole image is antialiased, which looks much better than a raw blur. My experience with blender is still extremely limited, but I am learning it. Your streams inspired me, haha
