Topic title says it all.
I can speak Spanish (Mother Language), English, and a little bit of German.
And I would like to learn French and maybe Japanese(?).
-
English, French (75%), Spanish (70%).
The percentages are there to state that I can understand and carry a conversation in those languages.
I also know a bit of German, Japanese and Danish yet I am NOWHERE near good in Danish. I use to study Polish but I stopped A LONG TIME AGO. I can read Japanese and type it but cannot speak it for my life (I get afraid to pronounce something wrong and this carries to the other foreign languages as well).
I don't want to learn another language though. Hard juggling the 4 I understand as of now...
-
I can speak a small amount of Russian, due to my mom and sister speaking it.
Russian's technically my first language, but I forgot it and am now re-learning.
-
English. I took French through 1-9 but I never bothered to actually learn it.
-
I was born English and continue to have it as my primary language, have a French II level focus, and can understand miscellaneous bits from several others.
-
I speak English, Spanish, and a bit of German.
And I'd like to learn Greek.
-
English is my main language. I know bits and pieces of Spanish, not enough to hold a full conversation though; I'd understand somewhat at best.
I really want to learn the German language, as I am German myself and identify with that the most out of all the stuff I am.
-
English
Some Mandarin Chinese
Minimal Cantonese and Shanghainese dialect
Remnants of French from high school
Would love to learn Japanese
Tbf tho I think if I spent more time studying a country's culture I'd probably be okay with trying to learn its official language
@Boo re Japanese I know the feel, but you have to practise saying things out aloud even if horribly wrong before it comes naturally (even then, Japanese has quite a few tongue twisters)
-
I only know English.
Would wana learn some Japanese tbh but don't wana spend the money on something in which I'm uncertain if it'll work or not.
(This mostly come from being forced to learn French throughout Elementary School and almost failing that part. :-\)
-
English. Other languages, no. Just a few words, that's all.
I also know American Sign Language, but that's not a language you technically speak with.
-
English is my main language and I'm studying German in college more or less, likely going to minor in it. I can read and comprehend text pretty well but listening and speaking is going to take a lifetime to master.
-
My mother language is French and I can speak English.
I'd like to learn German someday, becuase it's a nice language IMO :)
-
I speak English, pretty good French but not perfect.
I also speak a bit of Spanish and Bengali.
-
Speak- Portuguese (Main), English, French
Understand- ALL THE OTHER LATIN LANGUAGES XD
Would Like to Learn- Japanese and German
-

You are very intelligent in French?
That doesn't make sense.
-
I speak English (obv. otherwise why would I join an English forum). I also speak French and it's actually what I speak all day, everyday. Finally, I fully speak Spanish and it's actually my second language after French (or 1st depending on your point of view).
I can also understand some words in Portuguese since it's close to spanish, but I wouldn't be able to hold a conversation.
Languages I would love to learn are, Portuguese, to fully understand and because it sounds cute... also Italian and probably Japanese for something different.
-

I was going to say the same XD

Yes... "very intelligent IN FRENCH". It shows that I am smart in French.
Also, it reads, "I am intelligent...", not "You are intelligent". :P
You're saying "Tu es intelligent en français".
Well, I could say what you're saying. "I am intelligent at French".
Even when I tried in translate (English), it said "I am intelligent in French".
-
I can only speak English. I want to learn French just because and Chinese because my mother is Chinese(or Asian, whatever you call it).

Is Montreal more English or French? I remember when we went for our family vacation out east we got lost just outside of the city, and pulled over at a gas station to ask for directions. The girl didn't know any English.

You don't have to make bad excuses to do it, you know what I mean.
I'm saying you as as in you, Bowser498.
"I am smart in French" makes no sense, in any language at all.
You can't be smart in a language...
I took French from Grade 4 through 10, don't think you know everything.

Not in everything lol...
I'm talking about my class... I am smart in learning French...
"and I am also studying French. I am currently taking French I with an A+." (from profile)
The "A+" shows my intelligence... Go on translate, and the French translation for "I am smart in French" is "Je suis intelligent en français." Ask yourself this: What am I smart in? (learning French).
Look at this: http://www.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_say_i_am_smart_in_french
And MattC I believe they speak more French...

And MattC I believe they speak more French...
How about the person who lives in Montreal answers the question rather than the know-it-all?

Montreal is mostly French, but a lot of people actually speak English in Montreal. Mostly due to the immigration. It's harder to find people who can speak English outside the city.

"not-so know it all"
And you don't have to live in Montreal to know it...

I've heard that Montreal is more English than French now so I wasn't entirely sure.

Actually, to be sincerely honest, it's really like a roller coaster. English is taking over the city, so I wouldn't be surprised at all. Even though, French isn't lost (yet). It's 50/50. I remember reading an article that said something like 40 something% French and 39.something English which isn't really far behind. Then again, I need to check back my sources.

On the topic of Franco-Anglo dominance, what's the provinces stance on breaking away from the rest of the country again lol

I don't think it's going to ever happen. Quebec would flop without the rest of the country.
-
Ain't gonna happen anytime soon. From what I have heard, most people, mostly the young people, don't care that really much anymore. People who wanted Quebec to become its own country are those baby boomers from the 70s who still think we're in the 60's-70's. Yes, some of the younger citizens want Quebec to become its own country, but it's really a minority now.
-
Quebec could not financially sustain itself.
They also have the problem of all the indigenous natives in the north part of Quebec, it's not happening anytime soon.
The Bloc Quebecois only won 4 seats in the last federal election.

Fun times... fun times... :P
And I still can't see what benefits they say they'd get from separation. :P

The only ''benefit'' they would get is imposing French to everyone.

I speak American English. Going to learn German. Want to learn Japanese.

Have I posted here? English mainly and learning Russian (can holdmup simple conversations now.) Used to know a bit of Tagalog. Funny enough Russian was actually my first language but I forgot it in the Philippines.
Would like to learn Japanese some day so I can play j gamee. :P

How do you forget your first language?
-
It's only technically my first language. Spoke it before I learned English as a toddler or whatever. My main language has always been English. Just didn't use it for 6 years, which killed it.
-
I'm born with 2 native Languages: Polish and Dutch.
Polish because of the family I grew up with, and Dutch because of the country I grew up in.
Thanks to the fact The Netherlands favours Sub Titles over Dubs, I quickly picked up English at a young age.
Now I live in Japan, I also speak a great amount of Japanese.
Languages I can't speak myself, but I can understand include Czech, German, Afrikaans, and a bit of Bulgarian.
I also attempted learning Spanish, German and Chinese at some point, but I realised these Languages just aren't my passion.
-
I speak English (big surprise) and am currently learning German.
