Title: Current Events Topic
Post by: MattC on April 24, 2015
Talk about what's happening the news. Remember to post links to news articles.

Biggest thing in Canada right now is the C-51 bill which is an anti-terror bill. A lot of it has to do with stepping up security in regards to terrorist activity but really it's letting the government loom over whatever we do. If anyone remembers what happened in Toronto with the G-20 summit a few years back, if it were to happen under this bill then a lot of those people could be charged with terrorism. It's lost a lot of popularity and I believe it's being debated today in the House of Commons. also we're getting closer to bringing back the wooly mammoth from extinction. (http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/woolly-mammoth-cloning-1-step-closer-thanks-to-genome-research-1.3045656 (http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/woolly-mammoth-cloning-1-step-closer-thanks-to-genome-research-1.3045656))

There was a riot in Baltimore after Freddie Grey's death. There's been more appearances of peaceful protestors instead of rioters and there is suggestions of police reform and clean ups in the community taking place.

so are we to expect a riot every time a black teenager gets into a messy conflict with the police and ends up killed?

That's nice to know, I guess.

My only question is that why the hell did it take this long for them to legalize gay marriage?

I can't really say tbh. All I know is that it went step by step slowly.

Support for gay marriage in the US didn't reach a majority until 2011.

It's good to hear same-sex marriage is legal in the all 50 of the United States now. Better late than never I suppose. I'm kind of surprised it took so long. It must be wonderful for all those couples now.

Hurrican Patricia, the strongest hurricane ever recorded, hit Mexico yesterday. When it hit Jalisco, it was a Category 5 Hurricane, but it eventually weakened (right now a Tropical Depression) as it was traveling north thanks to our mountainous area all over the country. Even then, the destruction is already made for southern Mexico...

I'm happy too! I'm not gay either. However one thing you said is a technical error. Being gay isn't a choice, otherwise being straight would be one too. People who are gay are born that way, however they may not discover it until later. Sorry late but I just saw this. Hope i didn't offend you...
