Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Announced at Nintendo's E3 2011 Press Conference (Tuesday, June 7, 2011)! The fourth game of Super Smash Bros. series! Exclusive to Nintendo 3DS. Release: Saturday, September 13, 2014 (Japan); Friday, October 3, 2014 (Europe/North America); Saturday, October 4, 2014 (Australia).

More Info (http://www.smashbros.com/us/)

I prefer having the Brawl physics myself.
Although, I do have to agree on the tripping and Final Smash issues... I didn't like them as much (tripping could lead you into a 1-hit KO position, while Final Smashes basically rigged the game depending on your character.)
There also should be a better online than Brawl's. I hated the lag so much...

I'd probably want physics leaning to Melee but with some mechanics from Brawl retained (the recoveries and air dodges mainly)
No FS, if characters want to kill, get them to do a Super Combo or something >.>
Trips are stupid
Removing OHKO moves means some character style shakeups if they return. For sure I don't want to see them on bosses tho
Maybe saveable item selections and item styles (like in Mario Kart)?
More characters from less prominent series (this includes Metroid lol also FE)
Online is as Aegis said in the MTO topic
No stupid Adventure Mode plot XD Just Melee's style is fine
Another 1P mode? Though I can't think of any better than Classic/Adventure/AllStar

Final Smashes should return, people can turn them off easily, so I don't see why they should remove a good idea.
Sucky characters like Jigglypuff/Samus need a major buff.
Online needs massive improvement. =P
Remove Lucario, Snake, ROB, and Pokemon Trainer.
Adventure revert to Melée Style.
I'd prefer the style of Melée to return, but I'd also prefer characters don't fall like a brick. =P
New juicy Items

and I think that's it... That's what I wanna see added/removed.

I agree I hate the third party characters. This game is for Nintendo characters and them alone. It would be like adding Peach in Street Fighter it just not right. I LOVE the way Peach's dress and hair move in Melee they were so fluent and pretty. *-* Melee was so much more fast paced and crazy like the games should be. I hope they add back in the explosions and noises that got replaced with cartooned sounds in Brawl. If the game was much faster and the Final Smashes were faster and better (Making people sleep. Really?) then they would be epic.

i disagree because brawl is more realistic than melee. here are some examples, in brawl everyone had a different feel to them like link ike and ganondorf are slow characters which is the realistic part while fox falco and marth are fast characters. melee also had clone characters and brawl did not as much as i like Dr. Mario he was a clone character as so was falco. so i want some of brawl physics like the dodging was better, no clone characters, final smash improvement because some smash were broken, more characters, better online system, better items, as some said no tripping, and better 1p system.
Title: Re: Re: Super Smash Bros. 3D
Post by: The Shattered Legacy on February 28, 2012
I think 'realistic' mechanics don't apply so much to weight (I thought heavys in Melee were good enough) but as to overall manoeuvrability and falling etc. The character-differing jump/fall differences I think biased against the heavys unfairly in Brawl.

Clone characters had some variability, sometimes people want that but for sure not too many.

Good point about 3rd party. I don't think they deserve the inclusion purely for fanservice (tbh most 3rd party characters wouldn't have very fluid combat suited for SSB)

Characters;
No new mario characters. (;
Some characters from the Wario franchise like; Mona, Cat and anna and that dude with the blue hair XD
Zelda franchise; Throw out toon link and replace for Ghirahim. Zelda and Link modified like in Skyward sword. ( ganondorf stil in, guess I love to play with ganondorf, but I think he'll be replaced x[ )
Samus: I don't know any characters from metroid, guess I don't play it. But if there are some cool characters add them in.
sonic; add in Knuckles Tails and Amy
Pokemon; Throw out pokémon trainer and replace him for a cool pokemon, and replace Lucario for Zoroark.
Throw out Snake PLS!. He's  useless and his moves suck... ;$

Does someone know anything else? =D

Fox - LANDMASTER!!!
Falco - LANDMASTER!!!
Wolf - LANDMASTER!!!

Ganondorf and Captain Falcon STILL were clones in Brawl.

Again, the same amount of clones still existed in Brawl.

as clone i mean same exact moves like how falco forward smash attack was a forward just like fox but in brawl his forward attack is different. they have the same final smashes but they are not the same, fox landmaster is slow but more strong, falco landmaster is good in the air, wolf landmaster is balance. ganondorf is faster in melee than he is in brawl and the fact is he should not be fast at all because he hit too hard. ganondorf moves in brawl is different like his up smash does a diagonal kick while captain falcon does his 2 hit kick. in brawl there moves was not exactly the same, they may have 2 moves similar but rest is different and with a different feel and look.

Hm, like H-J I'd like the air dodging and recovery to be like in brawl.
Online needs TO BE A LOT LESS LAGGY.
Custom stages should be removed imo, they were pretty pointless :P
Final Smashes should be in imo, but be A LOT MORE BALANCED. *looks at Sonic >__<* Since I do like to play with items on occasion.
Snake and Sonic should be removed imo.
As for Adventure Mode, I don't really mind which style they choose but they better not make certain moves better in the Adventure mode. Like in Brawl, Yoshi's Grab Range is somewhat better in SSE than in multiplayer :p
No more chain grabs/infinites.
Characters and Match-ups being a lot more balanced.
Tripping should be gone.
Less spammy moves.

(Yes I know this is a lot XD)

I think if they have a story mode they should make it more RPG like. You can give the characters items and different  armor and whatever you give them can alter their in game appearance. Like you can eqiup Peach with Perry and a Princess type armor and while you play she is using them.

1.  Keep Peach about the same as she is in Brawl.  Sure she was godly in Melee, but I think she's more well-rounded in Brawl.  Her OP elegant sweep got nerfed a great deal, but her other moves got buffs, ex. Toad being able to KO opponents instead of being almost useless.

2.  No tripping.  Or at least have an option to turn this off.

3.  Gothitelle as one of the pokeball pokemon.

4.  Princess Daisy as a playable character.  I know people are quick to assume she'd be a clone, but her personality differs from Peach a great deal.  She could have a more sporty heavy hitting moveset sacrificing Peach's floatiness and recovery with speed.

Did you say something?  Sorry I was too busy thinking about how awesome  :peach: is.

But in all seriousness, out of all the females I think Zelda gets the most undeserved hype and love.  What's wrong with liking Peach anyway?  I think she's fun to use and has a more interesting personality than "blah" Zelda.

But I still do like Zelda, and I also like Samus.  Just not as much as I like Peach, because she is after all my all time favorite Nintendo character.   ;)  I've had a strong connection with her ever since Super Mario Bros. 2 USA.  She rocked in that game.

Because for most things Peach is a valid example.

I like the idea. Fighting with you favorite characters while on a road trip and bringing your new beefed up characters to your friends house afterwords and beating the crap out of him/her is always a great feeling. I wonder if Miis are going to be implemented somehow in this one.

I could get used to it as long as its not screwed up by the bottom screen. I also go on long trips allot so a portable Smash Bros is like a dream.

Sounds interesting, and I wonder if that means some sort of customisable character system is in place if the whole stats upgrades thing is hinted.

Unlike most of you I preferred Brawl over Melee.  I think there should be more characters.  I also think that since this game will connect to Wii U somehow that the camera angle should be different when playing with different control schemes.  What do you guys/gals think?
Title: Re: Re: Super Smash Bros. 3D

That would be an interesting add on if they implemented stat changes. Give you more reason to play the game by-yourself because let's face it, apart from the SSE in brawl, Super Smash Bros has always lacked in the solo player mode.

Also I hope they finally do away with clones. If you're going to add on new characters at least give them they're own moves. Even if this means less characters I don't care. Put some thought into your characters instead of just trying to please everyone.

I'm interested to see how they actually connect the games. With the WiiU's capability they best not screw it up.

Thats how I always felt about Young Link, Lucus, Toon Link, Dr. Mario... well you know the clones. Exept Im slightly more forgiving with Roy. Cuz hes smexy

People will fight you tool and nail trying to prove Toon Link is different... He isn't. He may have different "Stats" but he is exactly like Link in every way just short. >_> If they want to add the same character in twice at least differentiate them with different move sets.

I want Toad to be playable, but there are already way too many Mario characters, and with the way he's been portrayed in recent titles he's likely to stay as Peach's Mushroom Meat Shield.

Well I remember they said WiiU would have NFC, so having a figure that's compatible with your game would affect it.
Maybe they'll do away with clones and have certain figurines change appearance?
For example, a Metroid Fusion figure would let you play as Fusion-Suit Samus.

That sounds like a cool idea. You could get costumes from nearly any game they have been in! Like you could have Strikers Peach, Dr. Mario, Dry Bowser, Mr.L, ect.

I will say the same as you... I prefer things that I have seen in Super Smash Bros. Brawl... more realistic but still I like some of the stages from the others ones... and characters too. I am really impatient to know more about this new game and to see which kind of characters there will be on it... (I really like to have Meta Knight in Brawl... I hope I will be able to play with him again!)

No we have different pallets not costumes. Except Peach's Daisy costume in Melee that was a complete model change. Yea I hate DLC I already bought the game why the hell do I have to pay more for a "complete" experience? I can see the different costumes becoming a thing thanks to Wario (or Peach since she started it).

It's probably because it's also kinda long before having everything, but sure, for people who likes to have challenges and that play longer (I do like to play a lot for unlocking things... but still, I am not against these things, it's easier and can have more fun without being always obliged of focusing on something to unlock...) it's something interesting... but if there's an option to do that, I can be interested...

Ok i made this topic to disscuss some possible names for the smash bros game for both the 3ds version and Wii U version that probaby wont be out untill either 2013 or 2014 but anyway here are some possible names that i have for it.

Super Smash Bros 3D. 3DS Version.

Super Smash Bros Unleashed. Wii U Version.

Super Smash Bros Universe: which aparntly is to be the rumored name for Wii U.

Super Smash Bros Ulitimate Fighters. 3DS Version

and those are some of my names for the game if u have more feel free to add them.

Well ever since SSBM, they've had the names of the matches, such as multiplayer, the last word of the game. For example, Super Smash Bros. Melee, they call the matches, for example, Multi-Man Melee. And in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, they became Multi-Man Brawl. So they would probably keep with this trend.

One name I've heard is Super Smash Friends Rumble, among others I cannot remember at the moment.

I don't think they will go the DBZ rout and name their game with 10 words in it and have them all unpronounceable by everyone that isn't japanese.

with the U logo from the Wii U logo as the u in Universe and since then theres been lots of fan made videos and Character thoughts on this game and if Super Smash Bros Universe is the real name thats awesome. cuz i think it suits the smash bros series perfectly.

Super Smash Bros Universe Simply Awesome.

Again Pac-Man isn't NINTENDO, neither has Namco shown intreast in the series, so I would drop most if not all hope he will be there.

Hopefully they don't make the two games completely different. If any of you have played Skylanders for a console and the 3DS you will know the 3DS one sucks. It follows a completely different storyline, gameplay style, etc. Nintendo will sell more copies of the 3DS and this game if they stick to the formula we all know and love.

kind of long but it brings so many good things. From 3DSnewsdaily

With all the discussion about how Namco is now helping develop Super Smash Bros 4 and the talk about how the 3DS and Wii U ones could be extremely different to one another, it seems fair to say people’s expectations for the games are extremely high.  But could Super Smash Bros 3DS turn out to be the more interesting game, the one which has a whole bunch of interesting features and gameplay mechanics only possible on the 3DS?  I definitely think so, and here’s why.

1. The Arena is much less limited than before due to no camera issues

Now this is the big point.  You see, previously Super Smash Bros matches were always fought on one screen, correct?  As a result, you had to zoom the camera out to accomodate all the action on screen and couldn’t really be particularly ‘clever’ with stage designs due to the limited camera angles. However this could change with the 3DS.

This is because now, everyone has their own screen and hence own view of the action.  It’s an advantage theoretically also possible on the Wii U with the Game Pad and its mini touch screen, and the amount of interesting new things that can be achieved as a result is exceptional.

For one thing, stages can now have proper ‘depth’ to them.  Not like 3D movement or even graphics, but you can have all kinds of neat tricks where players can take the fight away from the rest of the pack without the camera having to be accomodate it.  Imagine if for example in Luigi’s Mansion that those fighting inside the building could do so even while the rest of the fighters just saw the front of the mansion.  Or if you could have a New Super Mario Bros/Yoshi’s Island style cut away effect where if you entered a building, you could see the interior on your own screen, but anyone not currently in the area could merely see the outside. Completely impossible in Melee or Brawl, completely possible in the 3DS and Wii U versions.

Similarly, how about if players could actually drop down or go off ‘screen’ and continue their battles in a different area? This is obviously impossible in the older games, but could be a nice way to add a lot of depth to the game in the 3DS and Wii U ones.

Invisibility could benefit greatly from this as well.  Remember the Cloaking Device in Super Smash Bros Melee?  It was pretty useful, pity you couldn’t see your character:

Spot the characters in this picture and who they are!

This makes perfect sense in a game viewed on a single screen, since any way used to let the person playing as a certain character see them when invisible can be used against them by human opponents in the same room.  It’s generally why Mario Kart games viewed on the TV screen (Double Dash and Wii especially) don’t have the Boo/ghost item, because anyone else in the same room can see what items are being stolen and where the user is.

But in a game with multiple screens, they can show the character (maybe with an effect like the Vanish Cap’s in Super Mario 64) to the person using them, but not to their allies/opponents.  Much better, and it stops people randomly crashing into things like pits and stage hazards due to not being able to keep track of their character.

It could also help with things like Captain Falcon’s final smash, which currently makes it so anyone not attacking/being attacked with/by it can’t keep playing until the short cut scene is over.  Imagine if instead the fancy view was kept to the person using it and their targets, whereas the rest of the players just saw the F-Zero car come hurtling across the stage and knock the unfortunate victim flying to their doom.

Finally, it’d really help with single player modes that have co-op functionality (or in other words, all of them bar Classic Mode).  Because at present, if one person goes too far ahead, the other gets killed as if they crossed the blast lines at the sides of the stage.  This issue is present in near enough all current 2D platformers to date ranging from New Super Mario Bros Wii to Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, but could be fixed entirely by making it so each player just sees their own characters ‘view’.  Unfortunately, one game never got this idea…

For some stupid reason, New Super Mario Bros 2 still brings back the ‘bubble’ system…

So in some way, merely having seperate views of the action adds a whole ton of new possibilities to the Super Smash Bros series.  But it’s not the only thing possible on the 3DS…

2. Augumented Reality Opens up a whole new dimension of Smash Bros gameplay

Face it, given the whole premise of trophies coming to life and fighting each other, everyone’s considered the idea of real life Super Smash Bros trophies they can use to host battles on their desk, right?

But with Augumented Reality, this possibility has got much better!  Now not only does it seem possible to make fictional characters appear in ‘real life’ and all the possibilities that brings (seriously, look up the amount of ingenious things people have done with AR cards and their Miis in real life settings), but also much more.

Like the ability to make them actually fight for one thing, like the AR stuff in Kid Icarus Uprising:

But even this could be improved.  How about making it so you can actually control the characters as they fight each other on your desk and making it so any area you can put the AR cards down in becomes a proper Smash Bros style battle arena?  And while I don’t quite see it being quite advanced enough to somehow auto figure out what parts of the environment would act as slopes, jump through platforms, etc, just having a flat stage like Final Destination wherever would open up a lot of creative possibilities.  Don’t like how they didn’t put your favourite stage in?  Make a real life model/diorama of it and just have the AR generated characters fight each other on it!

Maybe then have it so the game can generate virtual objects the characters can interact with, like virtual versions of other stages in the game or features from them.  Imagine getting to build your ideal stage in Stage Builder, then use it with the AR features to make an in game level which acts like the real life model, if you get what I mean.

You could easily turn the AR feature into something that’s unmatched by any other fighting game ever made, something allowing for literally infinite possibilities and potentially any ‘crossovers’, legal or illegal the fans could ever imagine!

3. StreetPass and SpotPass could improve the game significantly

Now, I’d hope this wouldn’t mean they’d require a certain amount of StreetPasses to unlock things ala Mario Kart 7′s Golden Glider, but there’s still an awful lot of neat things you could do with Super Smash Bros and StreetPass.

Like making trophies based around the feature.  This way, you’d still get trophies in game, but if you met someone out and about, a random trophy they have that you don’t would get added to your game’s trophy collection and vice versa.  Like that virtual Pokedex app available on the eShop. The same could work for the stickers in the game too, and it’d really make collecting them that much easier for a certain amount of people.

That’s not to say characters and stages couldn’t transfer like this too, wouldn’t it be pretty neat if any unlocked characters and stages you got in game could be passed on to anyone you StreetPassed with?  It wouldn’t replace the old fashioned methods of getting them like playing a certain amount of matches, beating classic mode, playing the single player adventure mode, etc, but would be a nice additional one for people who want to get everything a different way.

SpotPass could be neat too.  You know how sometimes you get Miis of famous Nintendo employees sent to celebrate events, or Swapnotes doing the same?  Imagine if you could get additional characters, stages and options this way too.  Like if a new Yoshi game was coming out or even just announced at E3 and Nintendo celebrated it by sending you a few trophies based on the game, or even a new character like Kamek.  Or when Donkey Kong Country Forever is released, voila a new Donkey Kong stage is sent to everyone for free and Funky Kong might be added as a playable character.

Note to K Rool fans: I only mentioned Funky Kong because K Rool and maybe Dixie Kong would be default characters available at launch, not distributed via events.

In fact, quite a few things could be sent this way.  Imagine if when Super Mario 3D Land, you got this music attached with a message saying to buy the game:

Super Mario 3D Land music; Final Boss (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_ILNFffRIU#ws)

That’d be a lot more interesting than just a boring Swapnote with some special stationary, right?

You’d also get to share your records with others the same way, like how Mario Kart 7 sends you random time trial times close to yours via SpotPass every now and again. Imagine if your best record on Break the Targets or Home Run Contest was being sent out to everyone and you got to see theirs in the same way.  Could be a nice way to foster competitive spirit (along with the inevitable online leaderboards).

So yes, both StreetPass and SpotPass open up a lot of possibilities, but so does this next item on the list…

4. QR Codes could be used to distribute characters and stages

Like in Mario Tennis Open how they distributed the different Yoshi colors and Metal Mario, but with much more interesting content.  It’d solve a lot of issues, namely that Nintendo could use it to release ‘downloadable content’ without the pesky ‘cost’ thing.  It also allows said content to be shared online in an almost ‘viral’ way, anyone can post the QR codes on their site and turn it into a gallery of unlockable Smash Bros characters and stages.

Like that, except with Smash Bros characters and stages rather than Yoshis

The region locking thing would ideally go, since it’d be much better if you could just get the codes from any site you wanted, English, Japanese, whatever, but still, the concept could be extremely interesting.  It’d also mean Nintendo could run a sort of post launch Dojo site where each day’s ‘update’ is new content being distributed as QR codes.  That’d be a really clever way to gain a lot of publicity fast.

5. Downloadable Content means everyone ends up happy

Okay, maybe not quite everyone, it’s impossible to make the unpleasable mob they call a fanbase online totally happy with anything, but the majority would be happier with at least some downloadable content, especially if it were free.

The obvious thing would be that you’d only have to add the stuff you wanted to add, Nintendo would basically maintain an official ‘download’ service giving out characters, stages, items, trophy packs, sticker packs, etc for free, and you’d just download the ones you want to use.  So if some people really liked Pichu or Dr Mario, sure they can add them to their copies of the game, but others aren’t forced to and it wouldn’t cost money to do so.

But I think the real best thing they could do here would be to make every single element in the game adjustable.  Not only could you add new characters, stages, items, etc, but you could disable/delete existing ones.  So let’s say you really, really dislike the character of Snake or Sonic or whoever. You could outright delete them from your copy of the game, or even overwrite them with a character you downloaded from Nintendo online.  Absolutely everything would work with this system.

So if you made a new stage and prefer it to New Pork City, you could then overwrite the former with your custom stage made in Stage Builder and then, whenever it comes up in the story, classic mode/all star mode, events, etc, it loads your custom level rather than the default one.  Absolutely everything would be editable this way, to the point you could outright disable items across the whole game and make even classic mode act like a tournament if you felt like it, or maybe even download a new final boss to use for the main adventure mode if you hated Tabuu.  Maybe there’d be a ‘boss downloads’ option too, so you could go to Smash Bros.com then say choose between these five possible final bosses:

1. Giga Bowser

2. Marx

3. Ganon

4. Andross

5. Tiki Tong

Of course, the selection would be better/more varied, but you get the point.  You could download content officially from Nintendo, and then either add it to the stuff in the game or outright replace stuff in the game with the new content.

Obviously, there would potentially be drawbacks to this idea, namely the absolute hell of trying to ‘balance’ it (to which part of my argument is ‘don’t bother, the pro gamers will do that themselves’) and the sheer confusion which would result from a trip online (imagine having to think of ways to counter over 200 unique characters, a few hundred stages, a hundred or so items and potentially even a custom stage played with Augumented Reality cards…), but it would certainly expand the scope of Super Smash Bros to the point it’d be the best crossover game ever made.

Besides, the player is king, not the developer.  If the player wants to make their offline play into a chaotic mess like a kid smashing a toy with a sledgehammer, let them.  Most of the customisation would only affect offline stuff anyway, since anyone could face anyone using any character or stage, even the ones they removed/disabled or didn’t add in the first place.

So with that said, it does really seem like the 3DS could be used to make the next Super Smash Bros game one of the best games ever made, with an almost unlimited number of possibilities and who knows what else.

I think each of the characters represents a different series, like Mario and Luigi are the Mario series, Donkey Kong for DK series, Crazy Hand and Sandbag represent the SSB series, Kirby and Meta Knight for Kirby, Zero Suit Samus for Metroid, Mr. Game & Watch for Game & Watch series, Link and Heart Container for Zelda series, Wario for Wario series, Pikachu for Pokemon, Marth for Fire Emblem, Pikmin for Pikmin, Pit for Kid Icarus, and Fox for Star Fox.

RUMOR: Next Smash to be a Retro Throwback
30. July 2012 by Jared Ettinger

We have just gotten some information from an anonymous source that claims they saw some of Sora Ltd.‘s work thus far on the next Super Smash Bros.  The one they specifically looked at was the 3DS version, which-if this is to be believed- will be called Super Smash Bros. Memories.  The alleged core difference between the games is that this one will focus on old properties, while the Wii U game will emphasize modern characters.  If you have both games, all characters and stages can be used in either one.

The characters for Memories mentioned include Donkey Kong Jr., Ridley, Pac-Man, Takamaru, Mach Rider, Dig-Dug, and Stanley the Bug Man.  The source claims that Super Smash Bros. Memories will be released holiday of next year, but gives no word on the Wii U game.  The letter can be found here.

Hi Zelda Informer,

The main idea behind the two upcoming Smash Bros. titles is that of “Retro meets Modern” and that one of the games will be focused on classic retro Nintendo IPs while the other features series from the modern era of Wii, Wii U, DS, and 3DS. Characters and stages in both games will be available close-platform but we were not briefed on specifics as of yet.

Saturday, we were briefed on the “retro” title, currently planned to release on 3DS next Holiday. Here is the information discussed including the title, Super Smash Bros. Memories, and a few of the characters we were shown sketches and #D models of:

大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ思いで

Dairantō Sumasshu Burazāzu Omoide

Super Smash Bros. Memories

CHARACTER

ドンキーコングJR. Donkī Kongu Junia

リドリー Ridorii

-“We have decided to redesign Ridley with his NES incarnation in mind. In the original NES Metroid, Ridley’s sprite was only slightly bigger than Samus’, allowing us to create a playable Ridley close to the size of Koopa (Bowser)”

鷹丸 Takamaru

(謎の村雨城 The Mysterious Murasame Castle)

Takamaru

-“We are hoping Takamaru’s inclusion in NintendoLand will allow for an easy transition of the character to a North American audience”

パックマン Pakkuman

ディグダグ Dig Dug

I hope I was able to provide you with an exciting sneak peek into the development world of our upcoming titles. Please look forward to them.
Source (http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/comments/rumor-next-smash-to-be-a-retro-throwback)

NOTE: The original source of the source is anonymous.

This is just a rumor. Basically, the games will be different, but 3DS version will focus on retro characters and stages from the past, while the Wii U version will focus on the current generations, from Wii, DS, 3DS, and Wii U. Also note that the game for 3DS will be titled "Super Smash Bros. Memories."

If this is true, then I'm glad we would be able to have a game dedicated to past Super Smash Bros. games, and an entirely new one.

However, this is all a rumor. Also remember that the ORIGINAL SOURCE IS ANONYMOUS.

I can't see how Mach Rider will fight lol, others can be but it'd be a stretch lol

I assume that the two games are tied by IPs that exist in both eras? I mean that would include the big M, Link, DK?, Samus, Pit, Kirby maybe.

Digdug I can easily see as playable though, jackhammer and pump.

Who else is a female NES era character (besides Bubbles from CluClu) that could work...

They could use the girl from Mishtif Makers. Though would N64 be considerd to current for memories?

... And it would be absolutely ridiculous if Ridley was in the roster. Should he be playable? Absolutely not. Should he make an appearance in SSB Wii U? Sure, why not?

Namco Bandai did make the SC series if I'm not mistaken, so there's a great example of customization. Who needs Miis when you can have beautifully rendered full models ;P also what sort of development or design for move sets would be used? Clone of another character, or all out customization? The title split makes each one unto its own a standalone, so I don't see how it wouldn't be possible for full out customization.

And I personally think Stanley the Bugman is a lousy fighter choice, what's he going to use? A repellant spray and some bees? Lol

It's understandable that 3DS version has limitations. It's a handheld console after all. I have a 3DS and I'll buy Super Smash Bros for 3DS, but I don't see why it's limitations must downgrade the Wii U verision. I was expecting from the start that Wii U will have more characters, stages, trophies etc. because they should take a full advantage of Wii U's opportunities. Having a 20-25 characters is excellent for the 3DS version, but Wii U shouldn't have less than 40. The characters I'd put in 3DS:
Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus,
Kirby, Fox, Pikachu, Bowser,
Pit, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man,
Luigi, Captain Falcon, Ness, Jigglypuff,
Yoshi, a Fire Emblem character, an old chool character (Mr Game & Watch, Ice Climbers etc.),
a character from series that didn't have repesenter yet like Golden Sun, Legendary Stafy etc. and Mii
for 3DS, this is enough and I'd be fairly satisfied with this, while Wii U should have doubled roster with all this plus chras from Brawl like Peach, Wolf, Pokemon Trainer and so on... as well as more newcomers.
I also hope Mega Man will be the only 3rd party series represented because the game's supposed to represent Nintendo universe and in my opinion, they shouldn't put a single third party character in this game, just my opinion...

It's the Regna Ferox Arena from Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Stages I want:
One based off of Gloomy Manor or Secret Mine from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Both were cool "worlds."
One based off of a Mario Kart 7 track (though that'll be a bit too many "Mario" stages)
One based off of Pushmo, is possible.
One that's actually the eShop and sort of be like a "PictoChat" stage.
A cooler Pokemon stage... like a Pokefloats 2, perhaps?
How about one themed off of the "top-down" games of the legend of zelda, like Link to the Past or a Link Between Worlds.
One based off of Starfox 64 3D because THE WORLD NEEDS MORE STARFOX!
One based off of Bowser's Inside Story/Dream Team. Preferably Dream Team, because it'd much cooler.

Sakurai mentions about HD for Wii U and the images for the 3DS, how it doesn't do game justice:

Quote from: Masahiro Sakurai
And the same thing with the Wii U screen - since we're an HD-compatible console, we're able to do more details, and bigger stages as seen on previous home consoles. Now of course, I want to point out that everything on 3DS is designed for that screen, and that's where they look the best. It's unfortunate we can't show everyone what it looks like on 3DS, rather than screenshots, while they do look fine, do not do that justice once you see it on the system. Too bad we can't show everybody what it looks like on the system.

Wii Fit Trainer and Villager will be in the 3DS version, though I'm sure everyone knows this. Sakurai said that both Wii U and 3DS will have the same roster.

Also, you can customize the characters a bit - you can alter the outlines of the characters in the game. This is a nice option, though it really isn't much.

You don't like the cel shading attempt? :p I'm sure that the actual game with the 3D will actually make those ugly lines seem more refined. :p

I'm definitely happy with the confirmation of equal roster - after all at this stage I'm not thinking of a WiiU so knowing that the 3DS will retain characters is a big thumbs up. :D

Yep! I knew about the equal roster, but I was a little confused that WII Fit Trainer would be on the 3DS

Now all we have to wait for is Olimar on the 3DS...

Personally, I hope a 3DS exclusive dude will be in both games, and not like Pokemon. They've appeared on the home consoles! Perhaps like... Mr. AR or something XD

Confirmed with this Monday's image.

Also I'm starting to see how awful thick outlines are lol, I was initially thinking it w decent cel shading but with how beautiful the current character models are (Peach and Link particularly) the lines not highlighting model detail kinda ruins it. :p

Peach was recently revealed, but a new character has shown today! Toon Link (http://mariopartylegacy.com/2013/09/toon-link-confirmed-for-super-smash-bros-for-wii-u-and-3ds/), the Hero of Winds sails his way to Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS!

Wow, this is amazing. Toon Link is another returning fighter, and I'm glad to fight as him next year. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD is also available today in Japan. Now we have two Zelda characters confirmed for SSB4.

I'm going to laugh TOO much when I play as Toon Link on the Spirit Tracks stage looking at the conductor as he's Toon Link, too. I am SHOCKED he's in here, but he looks AMAZING. EVERYONE crossed our fairy-friend off their list because of the Spirit Tracks incident. However, in light of the Wind Waker HD release, he's out and proud already! Just like in HD, too, he seems to show LOTS of expression. He even has a Wind Waker taunt! Ahhhh!

I'm happy to see him... but where are the newcomers?!

With proper analysis, we can't really have said that ST Link's presence on the Spirit Tracks stage would have ruled out ANY iteration of Toon Link, because of the timeline iterations. WW Link is in his own right to stand proud next to his descendant(?).

I think they might do the series reveal thing with a few jumps to other random series (I mean Olimar being confirmed outta nowhere... :p). Expecting next few reveals to be Zelda series - which probably means Zelda and Ganon (or some other Ganon expy, possibly Demise...? nah) to round out the quartet.

Olimar was revealed in light of Pikmin 3. In fact, every character revealed has been representing a new game coming out. All except Peach, that is.
Now my prayers of having a Toon Zelda/Tetra character can still come true, which would make five Zelda characters (which, the Mario series did have six in Brawl: Luigi, Peach, Mario, Bowser, Wario, and Yoshi). Normal Zelda/Ganon will most likely be revealed in November and predicted since we got two characters revealed in one month, we won't get a new character in October.
I pray to Din, Nayru and Farore that there will be a Toon Zelda/Tetra character. If she were terrible, I'd use her anyway! I LOVE TOON ZELDA AND TETRA!
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

Well, we'll definitely get a Pokémon character next month, on the worldwide release. That is, seeing the trend.

Mario representatives in Brawl were not six, just four. Wario and Yoshi have their own series.

Ehhhh, I don't usually count those two, because they started off from Mario games... but I see you're point. Still, I REALLY want me some Toon Zelda, though, seeing as technically there were only four Mario characters in Brawl (in that sense) she won't make the cut this time, either. Unless, the Mario series brings someone else. But who? Rosalina (please god no)? Maybe Daisy, I'd be fine with Daisy.
We need more female fighters anyway, so I like the sound of characters like Daisy, Krystal, Toon Zelda, and Bayonetta (not gonna happen folks) rumored about.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Post by: Vipsoccermaster on September 26, 2013
I doubt Daisy and Rosalina would happen. They can easily be alternative costumes of Princess Peach.

Brawl did already have four representatives for Zelda. We already have two, Link and Toon Link. Ganondorf is more likely, or if there is to be someone new, could be Demise or Ghirahim instead. Zelda will probably make it in. I don't know about Toon Zelda, though. It would be nice, though. She might make it in this time, even though she didn't in Brawl. Also, Brawl's files had Toon Zelda as a playable character in the disc.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Post by: The Shattered Legacy on September 26, 2013
It'd be nice to get female fighters from FE and KI in - though I guess I'm being restrictive to choose Lucina and Phosphora (Palutena would be also ok as KI represent, or perhaps Medusa. Not Pandora tho, even though her Amazon form is badass)... :p

If we go by Sakurai's comments on character significance to a series as a whole though... I can't see a Tetra being iconic enough to trump Zelda for a place. :p
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
Post by: AbsolPowers on September 26, 2013
I've seen some cool Daisy sets, but I too am not sure if she'll make the cut. She's a... maybe. Rosalina is an obivous no, then again... who expected Wii Fit Trainer to be playable let alone BE in the game?

And yes, we need Lucina and Palutena (personally, I never like Phosphora and I see her as a human Pikachu if she WERE in Smash, but I've never heard anyone request her before) from FE and KI respectively. Tetra would never trump Zelda's place, I just want to see my swatch-buckling she-sailer in action.

Also, where the HECK are the characters we're begging and pleading to see in HD? I don't care much for Peach as I do for:
Falco (Oh god, I love you Falco)
Marth
Ness
Diddy Kong
Captain Falcon (I feel like everyone is forgetting about him)

AND YAYYYYY! 250 posts, hoooray!

I seriously hope these guys all get in. But I think Peach was confirmed just for her First (Major) Lady of Nintendo status (yes Pauline is important but doesn't nearly share the same cult status).

I'm more worried about Yoshi though...

Don't we kind-of already have Diddy Kong in HD?

Marth would be nice, but what about Chrom? Has people been suggesting him a lot recently?

You know what, I think we can expect a character or two from Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei crossover, when it rolls out in Japan. Willing to bet that's out in 2014.

The rest are hard to come out of, as they don't really have any big games in the upcoming months and 2014. But I still think Ness and Captain Falcon will still make it in as they are part of the original 12.

For Yoshi, well, he has his games coming in 2014, so I don't think there's any reason to worry about him not making the cut, H-J.

I feel like right now, Sakurai is being very cautious on who he reveals. Like I know he's just showing Toon Link cuz of Wind Waker HD in Japan, but like... Sakurai: There will be trophies in the 3DS and Wii U games, and each version will boast different types and models. The 3DS trophies will be mainly from handhelds and the Wii U version will feature trophies from the home-console games.

Looks like trophies are confirmed to return! As one puts it, that trophy in the image confirms Saria, a character from Ocarina of Time 3D. Now I wonder how many trophies there will be, and I think there might be more trophies than there is in Brawl (Way more for Wii U and 3DS combined.)

Haha, I would have loved to see Victini playable. But I think it'll just be a Pokéball Pokémon. I also hope there will be a trophy of Victini, too, which is likely.
Can you imagine having that V Create attack? Could have been dope haha.

I heard that a couple weeks back too; and indeed a quick return to Nintendo Life or IGN says that it is being localized (Thanks for the help btw) and the Villager's appearance combined the text hints at this too. I wonder where else and how the match can take them if it is indeed based on Tomodachi Collection. Hmm...

The most likely case is that this screen is only showing one of many different apartments featured on the stage. Imagine the Luigi's Mansion stage from Brawl, but with an apartment building instead of a mansion.

The roster looks pretty cool so far. I just hope the rest of cast from the original Smash Bros makes it into the game. Miis would also be neat. Also, since both Ashley and Waluigi appear as assist trophies, I'm pretty sure Wario will return. Also, don't know why, but I think Ice Climbers will be cut. What do you think? Who will return and who won't?

I wonder why no one is wanting to talk about City Trial (or Smash Run as they call it in this game, but I'm just going to call it City Trial since that's what it's based off of in Kirby Air Ride :P)? It's a new mode exclusive to this version of the game, and I can somewhat see why considering the size of the battlefield. :P

It's a super-huge maze-like arena where you run around collecting power-ups to boost your character's stats for the competition which takes place after 5mins have passed. You each get your own screen, so running around there might feel like the Subspace Emissary in Brawl, even though the other players will also be running around there too.

For the challenges afterwards, it looks like it's going to mostly be based on battling, which is alright considering Kirby Air Ride mostly consisted of races and such with a bunch of other stuff mixed into it.
Apart from the various Time Battles and the upwards-moving games they already have, I'm also hoping for -
There also seems to be items you can bring into the match to help get the power-ups as well, like, from the footage we saw in the direct, random item attacks that defeat enemies for you, item drops (There was a Ray Gun drop shown as an icon), temporary stat boosts (or something like that - was also only shown as an icon), and some other group which IDK what they are, though this particular example warped you somewhere else in the battle arena, so it might be related to travel. I'd think those are all that would be around as of groups, so what kinds of items do you think would be in it?

Now finally, it's been also stated as a Multiplayer mode, but not exactly which kind of "Multiplayer" it is.
For example - is this mode a download-only game, where anyone locally can play it with you only? Or is it a multi-card game, where you require a copy per player in order to play.
Personally, I'm hoping we'll be able to play this mode online as well as with Download and Multi-card play so that we could enjoy this mode together here (though if they do that, it would probably be in the Friends mode only since online matchmaking seems to have been confirmed with only "For Fun" and "For Glory"). As well, I'm also hoping for CPU add ins as well in case you want to play this alone, because I know at times I will be when traveling.

Anyhow, what are all of your thoughts on this 3DS-exclusive mode? Are you all as hyped as I am for it!?

nintendofan10039 RETURNS!!!!
Well, I'm really looking forward to this game coming out this summer(3DS version), but I'm a little disappointed that Smash for Wii U looks like it'll be coming out in winter.  Something that'll help boost sales is a demo of the game...However, this has 0 to null chance of making this a reality.  Since Smash Run has been confirmed for 3DS and not for Wii U, does this mean that the Wii U version will have a "Subspace" mode?  I really hope so!  Anyways, on a couple months left until I download the game on my new XL(hopefully getting a Smash Bros. XL system).

Knowing Nintendo, if they want to make the most of the development for this game, and pinned a Summer release, it'll most likely be August or by the third weekend of September 2014. July is a possibility, but I think that's a bit soon, and most people are out on vacation during that month.

So, over the last few days, I found interesting footage and information on several Final Smashes.
Kirby: His Ultra Sword can strike multiple fighters (The same goes for Greninja's Final Smash)
Mega Man: There's a black hole before the Megamen are summoned and anyone caught in it will be hit.
Zero Suit Samus: Her Final Smash does indeed employ her airship; it can fire lasers on to a central point and you can freely aim.
Luigi: Though Luigi stays in one spot, the Poltergust 5000's angle spreads across all directions, sucking up anyone within range, and then they are spit out!

There is a rumor (http://playeressence.com/rumor-nintendo-is-planning-special-super-smash-bros-3ds-and-wii-u-system-bundles/) that Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U will be getting hardware bundles, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL Bundle, and the Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Wii U bundle.

Alternatively, here's a video on the rumored bundles (discussion starts at 4:30):

The Super Smash Bros. Show Ep. 2 - Smash Wii U/3DS Bundles Coming? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cnf2T8fdBg#ws)
If this is true, then Nintendo will just be on the run for the holiday. And even with the hardware boosts, it won't help Nintendo all that much, as the Wii U is still not selling and the current Wii U install base is still at a paltry 6.17 million so far.

I would be so happy if they released a 3DS XL bundle.  I have not yet upgraded and thought that this would be the perfect way to upgrade from my regular 3DS.  I already have a Wii U, so a little less interested in that...Saying that however, I do plan on getting the Smash Bros. Now for Lucina, she looks like she'd be a clone of Marth, though I did notice some difference in her normal attacks.
Sort of reminds me of Toon Link to Link and their differences, actually.

Ok so Sakurai just said this for the pic of the day:

Quote
"Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's--it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth."

So this is basically confirming Lucina IS a Marth clone; I guess you could say she's the "Falcon" of Marth.

I wouldn't say that's entirely true though considering Marth can either be really good at KOing, or really bad, depending on how the player spaces and gets tippers, but you get the idea. :p

I'm surprised that the new Paper Mario stage (Tuesday's pic of the day) spans more than just Sticker Star..
If all four games get represented, what other areas would you guys want to be in it? Personally, I hope to see the Glitz Pit and Shooting Star Summit.

I 100% agree with the Glitz Pit. Another good place in my opinion would be X-Naut Fortress.

Meta Knight will probably be nerfed. Anyway, there is a bit less than month away from the game's launch in Japan. Perhaps they'll reveal the characters more quickly now. The roster is fairly good and keeps getting better.

Actually, it's exactly a month from now before the Japanese release.

A whole bunch of news for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS have also been released! You can check them all here (http://mariopartylegacy.com/2014/08/new-details-released-on-super-smash-bros-official-website/).

And Nintendo of Europe have announced the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS Limited Edition Bundle (http://mariopartylegacy.com/2014/08/super-smash-bros-for-nintendo-3ds-limited-edition-bundle-announced/), and the game comes pre-installed! Only Europe at this time, no word for Australia, Japan, or even North America.

This is the Japanese eShop packaging card for Smash 3DS download. Two things to point out:

1. Konami is not listed in the copyright section, which means that Snake is likely cut.

2. Another thing is that the download file size will take up 17,300 blocks of space, or 2.1 GB. This is just as big as Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

I think these pics are sometimes funny to see at times anyhow, even if they're obviously fake by some means or another. :P
They look good though for fakes.

EDIT - On the note of seeing the "Mii Fighters" in there, it makes me wonder how they'd actually be accessed on the player select screen. This is mostly because they aren't allowed to be used when customizations are off and such, so will there be a player icon and it'll lock itself when it's off or a different option...?

ANOTHER EDIT JUST BECAUSE - Also seeing Doctor Mario and Dark Pit in that roster makes me laugh even more because of how stupid they both would be in the game. I mean, if they did get into the game, Dr. Mario would be just an alternate costume to Mario I'd assume due to them being the same person and Dark Pit would be an alternate costume for Pit since they basically are the same person, Dark Pit just being some evil version of Pit created from that mirror in Kid Icarus Uprising. Heck - checking by the multiplayer footage and some level where Dark Pit is in it, they even play the exact same way. Not enough significant changes to make those two their own characters. Dr. Mario maybe, but I doubt Sakurai would put him back on the roster as his own fighter... (that's cheap anyhow - Mario shouldn't get 2 player slots for himself, that greedy plumber :P)
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

The 2nd one that SuperZambezi posted is clearly fake. Ridley's image is recycled and Shulk looks like an in-game model.

For the 1st one, personally, nothing seems too unreasonable, except for Yoshi's odd placement within the Mario series. As well, all of the character art is new. Even though Jigglypuff and Dr. Mario resemble official or fan art, it's still in a new 3D render.

Also, I hope you (Yoshiman222) are not a fan of Paper Mario as another Mario rep.  :P

That goes against what I had just said about alternate costumes for Dr. Mario and Mario.

And in regards to Paper Mario myself - No. Maybe a trophy but hard to see it as a fully-playable character or costume.

My question is (may sounds silly), how can the Duck Hunt Dog be a playable character? Don't get me wrong, I like the modernized design of the Duck Hunt Dog, but I just can't see how it will fit in the roster.   ???
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS

I want to believe the leak, because it seems really reasonable and not ridiculous on cuts. I I do believe it because it's so ridiculously real-looking (all the interface and graphics seem legitimate, and all the artwork is completely new.)

I don't want to believe the leak, because certain crocodile kings didn't make the cut. I don't believe it, because Mr. Game & Watch's nose looks funnily small and Yoshi being there messes up the Mario series.

So overall I think it's fake because Yoshi's spot is just...weird.

Here we have the music page (http://www.smashbros.com/us/music/) where it shows the first three music samples and a list of artists/composers for the games.

Sakurai says you can use music there for Smash Run play, or even listen to them while your 3DS is in Sleep Mode! Thus, it can be used as a portable music player.

Also, the Smash Bros. 3DS XL Bundle is now confirmed for Australia and New Zealand, but unlike Europe, it will not come with a game, packaged or digital.

It's really blurry, so it's hard to tell if the pics are new renders for those characters. Dixie DOES look awfully...derp.

EDIT: Something that someone brought up was that all the multiple characters series are organized by debut year, with the same for single character franchises and the 3rd party characters. Of course, this WAS before this updated leak. In that case, it seems odd that Chorus Kids are behind WFT considering the first Rhythm Heaven game was released before Wii Fit, unless they discount it for being JP only.

Saw the new Super Smash Bros. 3DS trailer today and there were a lot of returning stages there. I haven't played Melee but Corneria was my favorite returning Melee stage in Brawl so I'm happy to see Nintendo's bringing it back. I liked Yoshi's Island (Brawl), too, so I don't mind they brought it back. The other two stages, however, are not my favorites. Actually, I don't think that much people liked Mushroomy Kingdom. I hate it. I don't like Distant Planet, too, but that's okay. All in all, I think Nintendo is bringing back good stages.

I've got so much hype for Smash 4, I could explode (I've only felt that way about one other game-I'll let you take a guess-to give you some perspective)! I had another Smash Dream too: Both Wario and Falco were confirmed. Sakurai made a tongue-in-cheek joke about Local Multiplayer when offline and he said there was even more on the way. Also, there was a Boxing Ring 6-stock match between Luigi, Pikachu, and Ness, but I woke up before it ended.

I had another Smash Dream too...
While not quite a dream this time, since the big footage unroll this morning, I might as well tell you another prediction of mine. Since Thursday, out of nowhere, I've had this gut-feeling that something big related to Smash Bros. would happen on Sep(t).6 (Proven true by the event which I hadn't heard of) and Sep(t).8.

Also, particularly in light of a stream from a favorite Youtuber of mine on Friday, I'm highly conflicting with myself whether to cave in and read Smash spoilers (at the very least I'll wanna see if there's a Luigi's Mansion stage and how it works, what my main newcomer candidate is up to-maybe-, and the unlocking conditions of Luigi and Jigglypuff (the guy's favorite), so I know to do those things first), or to wait it out for half a month until I get the game myself. Ugh...Such a hard, difficult decision.

Just an idea I was thinking of, since I know many thought the game was lacking in options and could use some more.

The Club Nintendo Post-Play surveys should start coming out for us soon, and I think if we all say a certain thing over and over between all of us, there's probably a chance Nintendo will catch wind of it and maybe, hopefully make an update for it.

Stuff I was thinking was like... having a Custom Fighter's mode and Smash Run mode available in the For Fun lobby.
And being able to invite a friend to be your ally in For Glory teams. (IDK about you, but I hate going with a random ally when it's For Glory)
And game options when starting a Smash Run game, like what final battles could appear, time limit for both the trial and the final battles, and whether you can see the other players or not.

I think if enough people say things similar to these, Nintendo will take notice and hopefully make an update so we can have these features in the game. It's a great idea if I say so myself. :P

I had some good videos of Shulk countering Falcon Punch, Eruption, Judge Hammer 9....
Good times.
You didn't have to update if you wanted your old replays. Of course, you would be locked out of online for eternity if you chose that way.
Exactly. I still want to play online. :P
At least I took a few pictures of my replays before the update.

So for those of you that downloaded Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, was your system linked to Club Nintendo prior or within five days? If not, then you don't get Mewtwo or the soundtrack.

Quote from: GoNintendo
How to get your Mewtwo download and soundtrack

- register copies of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS
- consoles must be linked prior to download
- if consoles aren't linked within 5 days of downloading the game, you can't get the deal

Coming from Nintendo customer service...

In order to register a game downloaded from the Nintendo eShop your console needs to have been linked to Club Nintendo either prior or within 5 days of downloading the game. If this is not done then the game will not be valid for the promotion.

Please note that this system does not work retroactively, this means if you have not registered the console with 5 days of the game purchase then you are not able to register the game. We are also unable to manually add any purchases made before linking the console.
