Fortune Street: Custom Boards
« on: October 16, 2015 »
Hello!

So in this tutorial today, I will be teaching you how to make a custom board in the monopoly like game, Fortune Street.

First off, you need to download the fortune street board editor. Extract it with 7Zip or WinRar.(You will also need .net framework 4 to run this) When it's done, open it, and you should be greeted with an "open file" window. Go to where you extracted the folder, and open "boards." You should see an entire list of files. These are all of the boards in the game's files, used and not used. For this tutorial, I'm going to use Robbin' Hood Ruins, which is "kandata.frb."

You should be at this screen now:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So, from there, you can left click squares to see some info's about it(the cost, value, district, etc) and right click to move it around the board. You can add new squares too, just make sure you set it by clicking on a square type in the top right of the editor. If you are tying to link squares, press "snap 64 pixels" when they are close to each other(if it is to far away it may link to another square) to make them exactly next to each other. The 16 and 32 are for squares that are connected, but not in a line, so you can make diagonal paths and stuffs. When you have shaped your board, press "autopath" on the top and then click "verify board." If it says "board good," then your board is ready to be played. A big note: Make sure that there are no districts missing. If there's one missing(what I mean by this is that if there is no district with id5 between 4 and 6, or any id, it will kinda break the game), the game will show the district at 1gold for stock. I haven't tried buying it in such a district, but I assume it crashes the game. Also, autopath may screw up the routing of the paths. Please check it after you autopathed the board. Anyway, here's one that I made in the editor, if you are curious:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

When you click on save, name it after the board you edited. Make sure to also include the extension(.frb) otherwise it will not work!

So now, you may ask, how do we play our new board? Well first, we need a softmodded wii with riivolution on it. Make a template for it(I'm not sure if I am allowed to give mine away), and place the new board in the folder you made the template point to. Then, simply load riivolution up, have it enabled, and launch the game. After this, go to the board you paved over, it should be there. Have fun!

Another question you may ask now, is that "Can I play custom boards on Wiimmfi?" And the answer is "Yes, totally!"

First, make sure everyone has the custom board, otherwise the game will crash for those that don't have it. Secondly, you need to patch the files that have the Nintendo WFC url's so that they connect to Wiimmfi instead. To do this, get USB Loader GX. Load it using the homebrew channel, and insert Fortune Street into the wii(If it is already in, press the plus sign on the left) and install it. This will dump the game's files onto your flash drive(so make sure you have enough space for it). Download this Wiimmfi Patcher for computers and then(assuming if you are running windows, I am) drag the .wbfs into the "windows" folder and run patch-wiimmfi. A new folder outside should be created, called "wiimmfi-images." This is where the wiimmfi patched .wbfs ended up. Then, download Wii Backup Manager to convert the .wbfs into an .iso file. When that is done, get WiiScrubber and extract the main.dol file. Place this into the same folder where you put the custom board. Now, your game is patched for Wiimmfi and also has the custom board. Enjoy, and have fun with it!

Wow, this took me a while to write. I hope anyone uses this tutorial, to make boards of their own. Well, this is the end of this post. Did you have fun reading it?

also, it'd be kinda awesome if we have a fortune street community night...

You need to explain this part better. Mostly because I'm still trying to but I've never gone through the coding of the Wii or riivolution.

I just wana see how it worked also. :P

Okay, I've made my own template, download it here.

Then, extract the xml file to SD:/riivolution . Create a new folder on the root of the SD card called "fortunestreet," and then place the new boards/main.dol there. Load riivolution, enable the patch, and launch the game.

I made this super-weird board. I think it's good. However the game doesn't like anyone to be given the chance to land on any venture spaces or boon spaces I put down.
Or any Warp spaces.

I think I might know why but I'm too lazy to look into it 100%... :P

This reminds me of a board with like 16 districts I wanted to make...
I should get on to that. :p

I don't think this is possible(the game itself has limitations), as the largest board(I think it is Alefgard?) only has about 12 districts. You can try, though.

I think it might be because of the venture spaces after thinking it over a while - this board never has any from before, so having them now kinda throws it off, I guess. Although the Boon spaces don't work either... (and it's only when they get a roll that enables them to land on them).

Although that might have been because I use to have a Boom space in there as well maybe.

This board is completely broken, I tried playing it with Riivolution three times and my game black screened all times when I applied the patch.

Also, board editor says this when I press "verify board:"

This means you did not path the tiles correctly. Or autopath screwed up. If you don't mind, I'm going to edit your board so that it will actually work.

No, those paths work. They'll always appear like that regardless of what happens. This is because of how the Doors work in Bowser's Castle.

Odd how it never worked for you though - it was playable for me whenever I played it.

So I've finally gotten the board to load.

And it crashes when I roll. I'm very sure you did something wrong here...

What number was it? Because in my game it's whenever a 3 is rolled that causes the glitch - and that's it. That is the issue I get.

I don't have the map or the Wii set up for it, but perchance there's a section where someone can loop on themselves with a 3?
