It better be a handheld.
The Wii U is still under 3 years old.

I'm not going to even start to get "hype" at all. It is too early in this generation to already start talking about the next.

Yeah, I just got my Wii U last October, they should probably wait until like next year at least to reveal the prototype of this new system.

Why do they always announce a new console right after I get the newest one :-D? There's still time for it to come out, though, and I'm curious to see it.

Guys, this console will likely come at the earliest Holiday 2016 or sometime in 2017 or 2018. There's still a long time before it releases.

I'd go for a 2018 release. The Wii U is just really starting to see games and I'm sure there's plenty more to come. Also, a lot of people are still getting a Wii U. Announcing the next console is just... too early.

Well, the reason Iwata announced this now was because he wanted consumers to know that Nintendo is still in the console business and not abandoning it entirely in favor of mobile games.

One bit of info about this console is that Satoru Iwata says that Nintendo would want NX to surprise consumers. Source (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/03/iwata_nintendo_nx_will_surprise_people_and_change_their_video_gaming_lives)

Nothing new, I believe. Nintendo aimed their previous systems to surprise people, too.

In an interview (http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/06/18/nintendos-reggie-fils-aime-talks-amiibo-and-the-skylanders-deal/) with the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime implied NX is the next home console.
Quote from: Reggie Fils-Aime
"From a Nintendo perspective, we clearly have strength here in the Americas, we have strength in Europe and we have strength in Japan," Fils-Aime said. "That isn't necessarily true of some of our more direct competitors. We've also said publicly that we are already hard at work on our next home console and that's another element we'll be talking about much later."

I had this really good idea that it should be backwards compatible with GameCube, Wii and Wii U games, but that prolly won't happen...

He may be refering to a REAL home console they already started developing not including the NX :P

It didn't necessarily flop at launch, but it just lost momentum immediately after the holidays were over.

Nintendo can boost their graphical capabilities to match with PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but they won't. If they do, they would probably lose money because it's expensive. They want to keep costs down before trying to push it.

I get what Reggie is implying about NX, but I still don't think it will replace the Wii U. It seems to be a "third pillar" console along with the 3DS and the Wii U. Of course, we don't know for sure until 2016, when Nintendo reveals more information about the NX.
Title: Re: NX

Some rumours have popped up about NX.

Quote
Nintendo will not create an Android system, but instead will emulate Android games. It’s not something that’s confirmed, but just an interpretation of the conversations. (Think how Blackberry is doing it)
When Nintendo announced their mobile games, Amazon was very interested in having the games also be on the Amazon App store.
Nintendo games will be on the Amazon store on day one, or shortly after Play Store and App Store.
Amazon is asking Nintendo what they need to do to have Amazon App Store games play on Nintendo consoles
Amazon got the impression that Nintendo is thinking about emulating Android games.

So another rumor (https://kevincallahangames.wordpress.com/2015/06/29/exciting-times-coming-next-year/) has come up. The rumor states that the NX may come in 2016 and Nintendo may be aiming at a $149.99 price point.

An article from Fortune (https://fortune.com/2015/06/23/shigeru-miyamoto-wii-u/) suggests that Nintendo started talking to third-parties at E3 2015 about the NX.

Same thing for the controller. Just replaced the L/R buttons (analog triggers) like those on the Wii U GamePad, and then slapped the NFC chip area onto the center of the controller.

Overall, this whole video screams fake right from the beginning.

Yeah, I wouldn't believe these rumors. They're outlandish.

Also, it's a shame that Iwata will never see the release of NX. The last consoles he saw release were Nintendo Wii U and New Nintendo 3DS/XL.
Title: Re: NX
Post by: SirYoshi211 on July 13, 2015
Most rumors I hear about the NX are pretty ridiculous or at the very least unlikely. I can see the NX doing mobile related stuff as an extra like with the mobile games they're developing thanks to the DeNa partnership. I hope moblile doesn't consume the NX as I don't care for moblile games. Perhaps a balance of both could be better, I'm not sure. Regardless of how convincing a rumor or leak can be, and I'm sure there will be some eventually, I won't believe it until it is made official through a reveal by Nintendo themselves.

Android "games".

Unlikely, though it might be able to add some appeal for casuals.

It used to be Nintendo was 'casual', but now casual gaming is at a whole new level. The majority of popular Android games are just one repetitive minigame with daily challenges. No depth at all. I doubt Nintendo could compete with mobile gaming or benefit by trying to attract mobile gamers. The ONE thing mobile gaming has going for it is you can play it on your phone. All Nintendo could really do is either make mobile games or make thejr games even more casual than they are already.

You know there's such things other than MPL?
I don't need to check the main site to watch GameXplain, I can just go on YouTube, because I did.
I also read other sites like Nintendo Life...

This sounds like a really odd situation, 20 million in one year...
I've got 20 Wii U games, most likely 23 by the end of the year, as well as over 35 Virtual Console games, but I'm still unsatisfied with the Wii U's library.

12 million in a year is really something, though. I think Nintendo is being overconfident that NX will have a great success.

And didn't Nintendo grossly exaggerate their predicted console sales for the Wii U, too?

Am I the only one here who think it looks kinda awkward? A little small for a portable screen as well? It seems like a cool and simple concept but the controllers seem weird to handle and such and how the console looks are works seems to be odd to me. Of course I was less into the WiiU when it was first revealed but then I turned around there... but then again that ended off as a commercial failure as we all can see...

Hmm... it's very weird. In time hopefully we can learn more about it.

Better presented than the Wii U  :-D
The Mario 3D game looks awesome with that very original location and characters!
Since it happens in a Mexican-like level.. Does Mario will go around the world?! THAT WOULD BE AMAZING!!
But scared about Mario Kart, is that a port of MK8 or just an placeholder?
I don't wanna buy MK8 again for an dlc pack :( Just wanna MK9 AND being able to buy the dlc in MK8 U

Too much this. It's infinitely presented better than the Wii U which did so poorly because people didn't even know it was a different product from the Wii.

In order to make a successful transition you need to start anew, which I think it has achieved with the console itself. But I don't want a MK8 import if it is the only Karting game we will see on the console. It's not new or fresh and it maintains the stench of bitter taste left by the lackluster Wii U. In simple terms, it's a bit lazy and they are already cutting corners when the console has barely been announced. This doesn't look overly promising for me that Nintendo will start releasing better Mario games outside of the main Mario game where all of their attention seems to be currently focused. But I guess we will see what happens with time.

Whoa. :o A little late to the party, but the wait was worth it. Sooo awesome! Wicked. I am so psyched! So want the gorgeous new 3D Mario, the enigmatic Breath of the Wild, and that smokin' hot Mario Kart 8 DLC. But wait, there's more! What's this? In the 3rd-party chart, Square Enix is a confirmed partner. Could this mean...just as it should have been...it can't be...the rumors just might be true.

Obviously you're not part of the target market. That's a shame, Nintendo lost you as a customer.

You know, I really like the concept! My only complaint is that the "individual" controllers seem a little bit small when used for multiplayer... But on the other side, you can bring the multiplayer to friends, unlike the Wii and Wii U, and no need to buy new controllers at that!

Obviously you're not part of the target market. That's a shame, Nintendo lost you as a customer.

I just don't understand why they don't market the "Pro Controller" as the main controller while all these other gimmick controllers like the multiplayer and GamePad-like types are released as optional peripherals. One of the big reasons I stuck with PS4 is that they keep a consistent controller that works with every game, and only use gimmicks that suit the game you're playing. Nintendo trying to influence motion control on everything in the Wii era was annoying, and now we have the GamePad gimmick which just leaves me to conclude that it could be just another handheld system. I'm not impressed with the concept, but Nintendo hasn't "lost me".

This reveal was exactly what I was hoping for. They showed off the idea in a cohesive, well thought out manner. Which is in stark contrast to the Wii U. The games they showed looked beautiful(Day of the Dead Mario style?) And overall they showed everyone watching that it is a new console, and they have 3rd party on board. They truly hit the nail on the head in terms of showing it off.  However it isn't without it's concerns. As a lover of Nintendo, I'll purchase it regardless, shamelessly I may add. But to some casual gamers or even PS4-XBone players, how can they show consumers they want this console if those 3rd party games are coming to Sony and Microsoft too. They need to list semi conservative price($250-$350?), and show us specs and battery life of the screen on the go. Despite these concerns though, I think Nintendo did exactly what they needed to. I mean it's already garnered upwards of 16 million viewers in 3 days! Overall very solid job from my favorite video game company, and here's to March 2017!  ;D
