About postcount++
« on: March 25, 2016 »
There's too much of it on this forum. To explain, postcount++ is literally just posting purely to get your postcount up. It's very easy to disguise postcount++ here with a few of the topics, these three as examples. Literally, it's just say "happy birthday to x," say "crap" or "fact," and say what was the last game you got(which can be easily lied about!).

Oh yeah, remember that Jeopardy topic? I'm going to consider all of that postcount++. Why? Literally for a very large chunk of 2015, Vip here just kept on posting, and yet no one responded. It was a clear failure, and he continued it anyway.

That's all I have to say, for now. Thanks for listening to my short rant, and I hope you take this seriously and actually make meaningful topics which can have quality posts in them.

Because members aren't even trying to actively promote discussions in the topics there. I'm trying to encourage to share worthy discussions with everyone, yet no one even tries to. The topics I've done (as you linked to) - my goal was to expand and try to discuss points. You're just saying Fact or Crap, yes, but it would have been better if you would elaborated why you chose that statement to further your point. But no one bothers.

Much unlike other forums I go on, this forum suffers a lot for active discussion.

But really, who cares about your postcount? It's just a number.

This has always been an issue. You can still make the best topic for discussion and only get short replies, trust me, I've tried. It's all up to the members. The only thing the staff can do is try to push members to make better posts, but then again, no one can really force anyone. Also, topics like the Birthday thread have always been in forums and I don't see any problem with that one, same goes for topics like ''Last Game You Got'', or ''Currently Listening'' and etc. Though, it has always been advised to not just post in those topics and spam them, there are tons of other topics. You want discussion? Then make it.

At least Vip is trying to make something fun.

Probably you.

It's just kinda annoying to see posts with only 1 or 2 short sentences. Why even bother having posted that in the first place?

The only thing the staff can do is try to push members to make better posts, but then again, no one can really force anyone.
Yes they can, postcount++ is a bannable offense, and I think we can all agree that a person who always makes very short posts with little meaning should be banned.

Are you serious? Get a stool and step OVER it and mission accomplish. VIP's topic was not increasing his post count. If you pay attention, areas where you post DO NOT increase your post count...

VIP can do whatever he wants in his blog as long as it doesn't violate rules...

Concerning the ban issue, we as a staff have discussed it and we only think people should be penalized for it if they do it repeatedly and/or without thought. Saying "happy birthday" every once in a while doesn't fall under either of those guidelines.

Nintendofan, there is absolutely nothing wrong with encouraging better discussions on the forum, but I feel like your point is misguided. That, and well the topic is totally unnecessary. I totally agree that we do need better discussion all around, in video games and general discussion. And I do also agree that VIP's Fact/Crap topic is more of a game, rather than a discussion. I talked with VIP and I moved it to his blog.

But the Birthday Topic and the like, they are not post pumping, and there's nothing wrong with them. The only time I can honestly say Birthday Topic is post pumping, is if you're saying happy birthday to people who don't even come here anymore, but even then, people don't do that. We've had that topic here for YEARS, along with the Game topic and other ones. The staff has not had a problem before, and we certainly don't now. Nintendofan, I just want to say one thing; please remember you are not apart of staff on this forum.

If you have a concern that you need the members opinion on, that's totally fine. But something like this, isn't really a public vote. If you really have a concern with the way certain members are posting, PM the staff members. That's what we're here for. But a topic like this doesn't really further anything. You want people to post better, you should take the initiative and post better yourself, rather than complaining about minor things.

I see this as a non-issue. Especially for a forum that is lacking in activity.

If people were replying with "Yes" or "I like this game," then okay, there is a problem. But topics like the Last thing Game You Got were designed for short and quick replies. The Happy Birthday thread is the exception and has been since the Forum was created.

If you want better discussion then lead by example.

Also, brevity is not a bad thing. In fact, it's a skill.

I'm inclined to think you submitted an application for a staff position and got denied, and this is a mild retaliation.

EDIT: Oh, Staryu already commented on that.

Well I don't imagine so I will see for myself - HJ
