Title: Diddy Kong Pilot GBA
Post by: Milla Maxwell on January 17, 2011
Diddy Kong Pilot was a Mode-7 racer developed by Rare Ltd. and meant to be published by Nintendo. Originally announced in 2001, the game featured various characters from the Donkey Kong universe and could be controlled with a tilt sensor that was integrated into the game’s cart. In 2002, Nintendo sold their share of Rare Ltd. and opted out of their publishing contract. The game was later reskinned with Banjo characters and released as Banjo-Pilot.

Description from Rare’s website:

Relive the classic gameplay style of Diddy Kong Racing as you take to the skies again in one of Rare’s very first titles for the Game Boy Advance! Pick out your favourite from an unlikely squadron of Kongs and Kremlings, each bringing along their own distinctive (and customisable) flying machine, then launch yourself headlong into the striking 3D courses. Within minutes you’ll be diving low over sandy beaches and climbing high above bubbling lava en route to the chequered flag and victory…

All sorts of play options are yours for the tinkering, including single-player and multiplayer tournaments, a classic time trial and detailed story modes for each character (ending in climactic one-on-one boss duels). You can even link up with three of your mates, competing for the title of squadron leader or simply blast each other out of the sky in frantic dogfights.

Other features of the game include interactive background scenery, rolling and looping manouevres, upgradable weapons and power-ups, secret features to unlock and of course the rarely-seen Tilt Technology, where, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can set aside your D-Pad in favour of controlling the plane by actually tilting the Game Boy Advance.

It would have been cool to have another Diddy Kong racing since the N64 origional was awesome. It was a terrible idea on Nintendo/Rare's behalf to make it into a Banjo game... :/ Only if Rare was with Nintendo again... EDIT: 800th post. YAAAAAAAAAAAYZ GHAHGSUYFVEGDVAVJG!!111111

That would've been great because I loved Diddy Kong Racing from the N64. But is was the GBA so it's kinda meh since the GBA was like 8 years ago or something like that.

It would've been neat if it was released. But oh well.

Diddy Kong Racing seems good enough for me. ^_~

Complete trash. In all honesty, it ruined the magic that made DKR64 great.

Same thoughts here.

And wasn't there supposed to be a Donkey Kong Racing too that got scrapped? But Banjo Pilot was pretty whack anyways I doubt this would've been much better.

Donkey Kong Racing was supposed to be a lunch game for the GCN, but it quickly got scrapped after Rare was bought by Microsoft.

Ninty claims that Donkey Kong Barrel Blast is their own version of Donkey Kong Racing.

Why are there so much lunch games I need some breakfast games. :-\

And was Diddy Kong Pilot "made" before Donkey Kong Racing or before?

It should have said "before DKR or AFTER". :P

Snowy must love playing with a completely undersized WizPig and anorexic Taj then, as well as playing with Dixie and Tiny Kong over Banjo and Conker. And all the other s*** gameplay.

To be fair, I was really young when I first played DKR64, and I used Conker and, but since it was my first N64 game, I had no clue what I was doing, so I didn't care.

I like having my favorite game on the go, who cares if they took out some of my favorite characters, it's still a good game.

Does it matter to you that it's easy as hell? :P The only time that game is any bit challenging is if you never upgrade your vehicle for later races in the game. Not to mention they took out the challenging and fun silver coin challenges as part of adventure mode and replaced them with this gay touch game.

Too bad this game never got released. They changed it to Banjo Pilot.

I'm pretty sure it might have been more fun if it stuck with Diddy Kong, not Banjo.
Title: Re: Diddy Kong Pilot GBA

It would've been the same concept and Banjo Pilot was weak so it probably would've been same gameplay, especially judging from that vid.

It still probably would have been bad if Diddy Kong Pilot was released. All they did for Banjo Pilot was swap out the characters and change the level design a bit to resemble Banjo levels. The music from Diddy Kong Racing is still apparent in the game :P

Only difference is we missed out on Corn Fed/Country/Redneck Kong! (no official name was given)

I still don't see why they decided to switch DK with Banjo. Rare holds the ownings to the BK franchise, not the DK franchise. :P

I coulda sworn you did cause I read the topic before I joined, but couldn't find it, so I assumed I was imagining things.

It was a Rare game, so I don't see entirely what you are getting at :P Even though it still doesn't make entire sense since it was for a Nintendo System, but only the 'handheld' department was still with Nintendo and it would have been freelance to do 'Nintendo' characters, which would have been a no-no from Microsoft (just my take on it for what I remember the deals were, but not willing enough to look through all the exact words again).
