Why are so many people hating on Galaxy? They are the 2nd and 3rd best video games of all time in my opinion.
I know it's your opinion, but let me explain why I don't like it. Then again this is simply MY opinion lol.
The game is graphically beautiful. I won't deny it, that part of the game was well done. Though, other than that, I can't think of many stuff I really liked it from it. The new characters, let me be honest, are okay at most parts, but nothing really memorable. Yes, Rosalina has been in several games since then. Though, I believe she is a really boring character, she's bland and ''almost'' like a copy of Peach. I'm happy they added one more female character to the Mario games, but her design and boring personality brings nothing exceptional. Lumas are likable and cute.
The musical compositions were great, but I could easily find myself bored of listening the soundtracks after a while. I can hardly remember a soundtrack that I really liked. While with some other Mario games, even after so many years, I still remember them and when I listen to them, it still feels fresh. Does this apply to every soundtrack of the game? Absolutely not, but I hardly find something of my liking.
The gravity thing wasn't really my thing and the controls to me were meh. I was never a fan of the Wii controllers then again. When I can play with my good old GCN controller, I do not question it twice. So, Wii controllers + gravity mechanics of this game = no to me.
The story gives you that feeling of deja vu. Collect a certain amount of stars to save your beloved princess kidnapped by Bowser. Nothing of interest here to me. Oh yeah, but this time we're saving Peach in Space lol. Nah, but really. I know most series follow a certain pattern, like in Zelda games you do dungeons to gain power or whatever, in Pokemon you defeat gym leaders and then take on the Champion league and etc, but many times you have a twist or something that actually makes the games standout. I think a bit more of development on that part of the game could have helped. Also, Rosalina, no, just no.
In terms of level designs, some are great, others are more forgettable. Though, the linear aspect destroyed a lot of the fun to me. A bit more of freedom, discovering and exploring wouldn't have hurt at all. You simply go from point A to point B, get a star and that's it. If I want to play a linear Mario game, I could simply just get a Mario Bros game and it'd do the job fine.
So yeah, I know I had more to say, but I forgot it lol.
