Online Mode
« on: July 07, 2016 »
It's basically universally requested that an online mode is added to the Mario Party series, yet not a single one has had it.

The series could have had online since Mario Party 8.

The only thing I could think of Nintendo not wanting to include online is because matches would take 20-30 minutes.

And the fact some people might take too long to make a move. Online would definitely work for Mini-Game Mode, as that doesn't take more than 15 minutes of play, but still. Mario Party is just basically a local-party game, not an online-party game.

Honestly, as far as online we'll get for Mario Party, is just Miiverse integration. Online for this game wouldn't be at a good time when the game comes out. By the time it is out, we will likely have information on NX and its impending launch in March 2017.

I doubt this one will have an online mode. Like you said, they could have done it with Mario Party 8 and any game that has come after it so far. I don't really see a reason for not having an online mode, they could at least have mini-games and mini-game modes available to play online. Sure the boards would take much longer than some mini-games but that doesn't stop Pokémon battles from potentially going on for almost an hour. They could have a time limit for each move like Pokémon does, the limit would be lower so it doesn't go on for too long.

I can totally see it work. Nintendo doesn't seem to want it in Mario Party for some reason. I don't expect anything more than Miiverse integration like Vip said. Maybe it'll happen someday with all the demand for it.

Well I don't think so, if what people say about MP8 originally being a GCN game is true. The GCN did have online, but it was so ungodly complicated and supported few games. But this is just my opinion.

lol let's face it a decent/tense match of mario party would take at least an hour

Online would be good, but there would be problems with it. Mario Party is the "friendship ruiner" so people might rage and dc on purpose when something bs happens. I doubt Nintendo wants that. There's also the factor of good/bad internet connections that might affect the results of minigames, and how many people are actually willing to play a 1-2 hour match online with random people. Friend rooms will probably be the only way to get an actually good match.

I personally think with these simultaneous turns they added to this game it would make online play a lot smoother than it would've been with Mario Party 8-10. In the Nintendo Treehouse at the very end it did show a countdown that made them all roll when they stopped playing though, so that would also be good for online...... :/

I guess rage quits would be really annoying, and lag would be tedious. (though I've dealt with it in smash) If anything, I would accept minigame mode online.

But yeah, I'm not counting on it.

Fortune Street which in some cases lasts for hours had online for its first release. If that game was compatible with online there's no reason why Mario Party shouldn't be.

And who's here to state that no one rage quit on an worldwide online match of Fortune Street? Yeah sure the game had online, but it had to have its problems regarding that. There was also the problem of not being able to find anyone worldwide when WFC was still up.

This game looks MADE for online play actually! The countdown is what proves it the most since it automatically throw the dice for you after a while so nobody waits.
I think it would work pretty well if, after 1 minute of inactivity, an 15 seconds countdown happens on-screen and if the player doesn't move after that time, they are disconnected and remplaced by an AI, same happens if you just disconnect of course.
My prognostic is, if we ever get Online on a Mario Party game, it will be in this one or never...  :(

I want it to have online. If this game doesn't, the replay value will drop SIGNIFICANTLY for me. Not many of my friends (IRL AND Online...) have a 3DS, so it's hard to find people to play with. The gameplay doesn't look fun enough to keep playing it by myself.

One minute of inactivity=CPU takes over for you until you press a button to get back in

Based on the fact that Mario Party 10 had Miiverse functionality and didn't say that I've got high hopes... for at least a minigame mode or a few to be playable online. Would be awesome even if it's not the old Mario Party formula we know and love.

How about the countdown simply auto selects the moves for you?
