Best Item System?
« on: March 02, 2012 »
There is one main feature in Mario Party Series that is introduced in Mario Party 2- items. Items have been in different formats- Items, Mini-Mega Styled Items, Capsules, Orbs, Candies, Hexes, and Dice Blocks. Which is your favorite?
---
Items: Items are cool. I especially liked the MP3 items, which can screw up your opponents.
---
Mini-Mega Styled Items: Mini-Mega System had good points and bad points- I didn't hate it very much, but I liked the normal Mushroom system better.
---
Capsules: I liked that you can place capsules on the board, and it is combined with the past items. The only thing I didn't like is you recieve random capsules, instead of choosing and buying them.
---
Orbs: Does it mean Character Spaces and Orb Shops make orbs the best items? NO, REALLY NO!!! Remember Plunder Chest and Lakitu Capsule? Well, you can't use it freely, since you have to put it on a character space, and wait for your opponent to step there!  :what:
---
Candies: The worst item system ever. Hands down.
---
Hexes: It is like orbs, but it has good points and bad points. Good points are, it is now mixed with items. Bad points are, it is only 1 time effective, and there's no roadblock option.
---
Dice Blocks: I liked this system, since I could use it to screw my opponents. Who wants to get a 10 mini-ztar? Just use a 0-1 block and pass the danger to the next player!

Items, Orbs, and Dice Blocks, even though I never tried the dice blocks out just yet.

There were a wide variety of times in Mario Party 3. The items in Mario Party 2 was okay, but the items in Mario Party 3 was a huge improvement.

Next comes Orbs. You can get free coins out of them, and you can set down traps. Playing a lot of turns in one board pretty much has you seeing a lot of character spaces being landed on.

And finally, Dice Blocks. From what I've seen, they were a great way to utilize your strategy to either help or hinder your opponents.

I loved MP#3's Item system, especially the fact that you could hold 3 items in MP3 versus 1 in 2.  Reverse Shroom and Boo Repellant Rule all.  The Rare Items are cool too, especially the Koopa Card.
Can't say much about 2's system, since most of the items that appear here are in MP3 as well - the sole exception being the Bowser Bomb.  That's a very WTF item, as in WHY would ANYONE WANT this?  Funny when someone gets one, though.  :P

I prefer Orbs the most though, especially the ones you use on the spaces themselves.  They give a sense of ownership and the ill effects don't affect the user, as opposed to the Capsules, which don't discriminate who lands on or moves after them (which sucks if it's one where you lose coins - and you placed it on the board, and placing Mushrooms and Wigglers on the board is just... WEIRD).

Mini-Mega is interesting, and the Zap-sticker is the grandfather of the orb/capsule system.  Beyond those, there's nothing much to write home about the items in MP4.

Someone would like to get a Bowser Bomb, when there is a rich player who is near to Bowser.  ;D
And I really liked the Sparky Sticker too. The only thing I don't like about it is it should be 10 coins, not 15 coins  :D

Items: Items were pretty good in 1 and 2...but 3 had probably the best in the series (Reverse Mushroom anyone?)
---
Mini-Mega Styled Items: Dull and hard to understand for a new player.
---
Capsules: I liked how they were free and it didn't take forever to buy them..and the randomness was funny in multiplayer
---
Orbs: Not as good as Capsules but still decent!
---
Candies: WHY NINTENDO WHY?
---
Hexes: Too cheap, and you could buy more than 1 of everything in a shop (20 STAR PIPES ON STONE STATUE = LIKE A GAJILLION STARS)
---
Dice Blocks: Slightly luck based, but interesting concept..10 mini ztar and another 3 after? F**K YOU BLOOPER BEACH! BOOYAH, PEACH. <----- real things i've said.

Orbs were the best. I really liked making trap spaces
Then Candies. I actually liked them, I liked the transformations.
Then Items
Then Dice Blocks, for tactical movement
Then Mini-Mega Items
Then Capsules at bottom. Didn't like the idea. Why would I pay to use a bad item on myself.

Orbs are the best IMO. I LOVED the concept of character spaces and roadblocks to screw over your rivals and that you might even find coins in them so that pretty much encourages usage of orbs :p

Candies are the worst. Capsules are 2nd worst. The others are meh.

The best item system would probably be the orbs, mainly due to the ability to set traps onto the boards.

In terms of favorite, I'd say capsules; I liked how they were free and that they were random. Also, I liked the idea of paying coins in order to use them, it made it more challenging.

I liked the Items and Orbs System best.

Candies were ugh.  Capsules were not much fun.  The other ones - I don't really care much about.  lol

CAPSULES <3

Speaking in a sane manner, i actually kind of liked the capsule system. I dunno about you guys, but i feel it added a bit of challenge, and i like challenge.
Orbs are pretty sweet too. You own the board, you own the very ground these simpletons walk on. When they dare to stop on your ground, your special forces shall take care of these poor shmucks who tread the space.

The one thing I liked about candies is the transformations.

Orbs reminded me of monopoly. And I liked capsules since I could MAKE the board events.  ;D

Items: Meh, kinda generic, but not bad

MP4 Items: Like the mini-mega stuff, but there are WAYYYYY TOOO much of them

Capsules: Well I liked them, but when they got on like half the entire board it got too chaotic

Orbs: My favorite, and they were better and more fair in MP6 + 7

Candy: Don't know why everyone hates these, I like them

MPDS Items and Hexes: Well they were okay but they costed way too little money, you could get the equivalent of 3 MP6 /MP7 wigglers in just 45 coins in one shop. The hexes were alright, but the 2 star hexes was taking it too far IMO.

MP9 Dice blocks: In my opinion this is the worst type of item system.
I like pancakes.

Also, I preferred MP6's Orbs, I feel like MP7 nerfed some of them/added pointless ones and I did not like that at ALL.

Toady Orb- Should've given the orb to you instead of just using it on the board (for Yellow and Red orbs) (If it was a green or blue orb, then Toady would just take it for himself).
Zap Orb- 3 coins per space lost passed compared to 5 coins per space lost.
Warp Pipe Orb- Being a roadblock was a WTF, Thwomp Orb was preferable.
Pink Boo Orb- I preferred it being an event.
Koopa Kid Orb was annoying >__<
Snack Orb should've been automatic like in MP6.
I didn't really like Special Orbs either.

1. You mean there were lots of Mini-Mega styled items?
2. Capsules are too hectic, when Capsule Spaces in Everywhere event starts.  ;D
3. Yeah, the MPDS items were too cheap. I mean, 3 coins for a Double Dice Set? LOL.

And also-
Magikoopa: He should take 1 character space instead of 3 character spaces.
Hammer Bro: Spiny from MP6 is much faster than this.
Though I liked 3 coin Zap Orb more than 5 coin Zap Orb.
And special orbs are rigged, too.

1. Well I was leaning more towards the fact that Party Mode was too based around them, like there was a mushroom space every 3 spaces or so.
2. Indeed :P
3. LOL, that'd be like paying 3 coins for a mushroom in the 4-7 XD
I like pancakes.
