4th Anniversary MKW/MK7 Tournament
« on: January 18, 2012 »
I've been thinking for...well just a few minutes now, that we should have an annual, or bi-annual MKW/MK7 tournament, in honor of MPL's birthday and half birthday, to just have fun and compete with one another. Some people might not have MK7 yet, so we could probably do a MKW first and later do an MK7, or just simply both.

Anybody think that's a good idea?

I haven't played with any friends online yet. Cook, could you explain since you've had experience online with friends, or anybody else. I'm pretty sure you host a race and have people join, but I don't know. :P

We could have a sign-up topic and then for a few days to a week. When we are done with sign-ups, we could randomize members into tournament brackets and then play each other, like a Round Robin tournament 1-on-1 (where everybody plays everybody once), or brackets of 5-player races. I'm not too sure, I'd need some help with organizing this tournament. Anybody willing to help? :)

I don't have MKW but I am guessing:

>For MKW, have up to 6 ppl race against each other for VS otherwise it gets messy maybe? :p
>For MK7, have the community so up to 8 ppl

Round robins aren't really in the flavor for MK imho

Marth is not amused.

I would definitely join this. However, even though I have both Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7, I refuse to play Mario Kart Wii (personal preference on just how broken everything is in MKW).

So expect me to only do MK7. XI

Also, Community seems the best idea, since that is the only real way to have us all play together without random interference (warning though, if someone sees you on their friends/rivals list they can join your race while waiting in the community...).

And if it comes to it, I might have to join MKW if you guys don't get enough people. :/

Yeah, I agree, that'd have too many races. 6 people sound perfect, though that depends on how many participants we'd have.

Hmm...maybe this could work: (this example has a total of 8 participants)

1. 4 1-on-1 Races (randomized).

2. Winners all race together (4 winners), same applies with the losers (4 losers).

3. The top 2 winners of the winner-race race with the top 2 winners of the losers-race (4 racers total).

4. The top 2 winners from that race will race each other for the championship.

There's no way a 1-on-1 race in MKWii works cause it's basically whoever gets a lightning cloud in the middle of the race loses lol.

I would rather have (assume 8 players MKW)

Seeds 1,4,5,8 and Seeds 2,3,6,7 in round robin 1 (one race)
Seeds 1,2,3,4 and Seeds 5,6,7,8 in round robin 2 (one race)
Seeds 1,3,5,7 and Seeds 2,4,6,8 in round robin 3 (one race)
Seeds 1,2,5,6 and Seeds 3,4,7,8 in round robin 4 (one race)

Top four placings go into championship GP and 1st-4th determined thataway
Bottom for placings go into consolation GP and 5th-8th determined thataway
Ties decided either by Balloon Battle or mushroom only VS

Marth is not amused.

Wait, could you explain that more, I'm confused. =P

We would need to seed the entrants based on... say VR? :p

Races are always four contestants only

Point assignment could be 4/3/2/1 or 3/2/1/0, no point having 10/8/6/5 :p

I mean Seeds 1,4,5,8 in one race while Seeds 2,3,6,7 in another but same course etc.

Marth is not amused.

Okay, I see. I like that. The points would be 3/2/1/0, just to make it easier.

Why don't we just randomize the seeds? (Using a randomizer). It'll be a lot quicker.

How many rounds per day, or will it all be in one day? (There'll be 5 rounds). We'd need time to set up the tournament brackets, randomize the courses to see which ones will be selected to race in our brackets. (Using a randomizer again?), and post the results.

If this is good, should we make the sign-up topic, since it's already past the anniversary?

1-1 would straight up not work at all or be fair. Take it from me. =P

MKWII it's basically like Cook said, 2nd will get TC and lose.
MK7's Item giveouts isn't good with 2 people. (1st basically gets x3 Bananas, and all 2nd gets is Mushrooms...)

Think of it this way; The more people playing, the more of a chance Item distribution will be better.

If needed, I can host the MKWII room since I know MKWII's friend room and have run many successful tourneys. (what? I have :P)
