With a new Sonic game comes new characters, and let's face it, not all of the characters should have been made in the first place. But there are some characters that really stand out. Others have terrible flaws in them. And yes, I've said we for a reason.
Hello! Just a heads-up, the following characters will not be on this list, because love them or hate them, we feel they've earned their places in the Sonic universe. Excluded Characters
Sonic the Hedgehog
Miles "Tails" Prower
Knuckles the Echidna
Dr. Robotnik/Eggman
Amy Rose
Metal Sonic
We've got to keep this list a little unpredictable. Let's get this out there right now. Most of the characters on these lists are whenever we like them or not, which is nothing short of a new "duh," and chances are, you might not like the ones we've picked, so instead of complaining about our list, just make your own. Alright, let's start it up!

5. Marine the Raccoon
You all thought Patricia Martin was an annoying character. You are right, but Marine is even worse! She will quickly get on your nerves faster than you could scream "MASTER SPARK!" Say what you want about Charmy, but the bee means what he says, so he will beat any enemy if he says he will. Marine, on the other hand, puts Sonic in her place to face Johnny even after she says she herself will face him. What's even more annoying is that she goes 343 Guilty Spark and states that she is the captain, and Sonic and Tails have to chase her throughout the game, until Blaze calls her a nuisance and Sonic and Tails don't say anything. You know there's a problem with you when not even Sonic or Tails will stick up for you. I'm even getting tired of this word, but I feel like MARINE was hollow, too. In her own way. Marine was sweet and kind, but I didn't like how much she remained a mystery and her look... just didn't work. I've always wanted to see her in a new light, but at the same time, I feel like Marine is too far back to be fixed or made anew. Someday, maybe someday, she'll come back and better.
But I doubt it, I mean, there aren't a lot of people playing Sonic Rush Adventure as of now! I only put her last because I do have a bit of a love for her... but I always thought her as too far drowned to even be saved. The only things that save her are her appearance, her Australian accent, her engineering skills, her attack on the Egg Wizard, and getting the Jewel Scepter. Overall, Marine is better off being left in obscurity for being such an annoying brat!
*sigh* Big the Cat. The only saving grace for Big is that his appearance was actually pretty cute. Other than that, he was annoying. "Froggy" or whatever it's called was the ONLY purpose of him. And everytime I think of him, I think of his "Wait for me Froggy" line in Sonic and Sega: All-Stars Racing. Big is looking for Froggy, and how do you catch him? By fishing. A flawed gameplay like Big's has no place in the game that boasted some fun action. Since then, he's earned a lot of hate and has been the joke of many fan projects in the Sonic community. You know there's a problem with a character when the best things about him are the parodies made about him. The only other thing that saves Big from placing any higher is that he's a powerhouse in Sonic Heroes. I didn't even see him good on Team Rose, in fact, I tried AVOIDING using him whenever possible. Sure, that wasn't too hard but... I don't know, Big just makes me want to tear my hair out. His voice sounds like a Barney wannabe, to add more irritation. Overall, Big has not been well relieved and has slowly been out of the Sonic universe, or so we know it. Of course, compared to the other characters on this side of the list, I'd actually rather put up with Big than deal with the other three characters.
Exdeath is original compared to the amount of cliches Black Doom has. Oy, personally, Black Doom was soooo BORING! His purpose was lame, his battle was subpar at beast, and the fact he's sort of Shadow's father was too farfetched for me. His design wasn't even all that good! He kind of looked like an anvil on top of a disassembled grandfather clock. Not only that, but he doesn't care about his troops, as shown when you kill a Black Arms soldier to open paths, and when he orders Shadow to activate mechanisms guarded by Black Arms soldiers. But the worst part about Black Doom is that he is a hypocrite. He says that humans are on a path of self-destruction, and uses them as energy for the Black Arms to "save" them, but he lets his own troops be on the path of self-destruction. The only thing saving him is his voice, and Dr. Clel wants it back. I don't even have much to say on Black Doom, everytime I see a picture of him (which isn't too often, because most of the fanbase didn't like him) I groan and turn away. He didn't even BELONG in Shadow the Hedgehog either! The game wasn't too fun, but it wasn't as bad as it would've been without a stupid villain like him!
It's the obligatory tutorial character, even worse when it deforms the good name of the Chao. Look, every time i see this... thing, I want to cringe, as he goes all Kaepora Gaebora on your face and tells useless junk you already know. He's everywhere in the game to annoy you even further. A flying robot who probably is the most pointless in the game! He was never a main character, but he ALWAYS was annoying. Every game he appears in, either his voice, or his purpose is lame. For instance, the new game, Sonic Lost World. The missions were pretty lame, and you'd never guess who was in charge of them! That's right, Omochao! I feel like the only reason I hate characters MORE is because he's only interacting with you for a couple of seconds. With all this hatred, this is why the Omochao Gun was created. This is what happens when you don't read the instruction manual, people! Characters like this get created. We're pretty sure this is the one character we can all agree deserves to be on here, and then thrown away. Annoying, has no real purpose, and much like Big, the best part is when he's makes fun of. Is there anything else to say "next entry"? At this point, no. Next entry!
Sol and I just barely made it out of that part with our sanities intact, and all that remains is the only character to be so bad, they were written out of the series as quickly as they needed to see. The worst of the worst, the crappiest of the crap. We didn't even have to think about this one. The one character who doesn't belong in a Sonic game is... #1 LEAST FAVORITE
1. Elise
Elise. Oh god, the grand flop, am I right? Elise is that one character on an elimination TV show and you're like "Oh my god, I hate them. I hate them. I hate them," every other sentence. Elise was a really dumb idea. Face it, I'm sure some of you were expecting Else to be on here, and boy does she deserve it! Sega tried to make something from Peach to get the fans' attention, but the exact opposite happened. Elise does nothing to help, as she gets kidnapped all the freaking time, more than the amount of Peach in a single game! All she does is get in your way, and when you have to carry her around, Sonic gets even slower than his already slow speed in 06. Both her personality and appearance were that of a china doll you'd buy at the ninety-nine cents store. I think her voice actor was okay... but everything else about her? Ugh, big no. And let's not forget the creepy love between her and Sonic, especially THAT scene in the last story. The only good thing is when she chooses to sacrifice herself to protect the people of Soleanna from Eggman, and that was taken away when she chose to sacrifice the world instead of reset the events of Sonic 06, thus preventing her from meeting Sonic in the first place. Thankfully, the events of Sonic 06 did get reset, and everyone in Sonic's world might've forgotten this, but we wish we could. Elise was from a pretty bad game, too, so I don't she has much of ANYTHING going for her. For us, Elise remains the worst character of the entire franchise. Now that all the bad characters are out of the way, let's discuss our favorites now!
#10 is actually a tie between two characters! #10 FAVORITE
10. E-102 Gamma/Eggman Nega
For the first spot in our favorites list, we've got two characters that seem to be overshadowed by others: Gamma and Nega. Gamma is a robot created by Eggman that seems to have emotions over the harsh treatment his master has done to his brothers and to the animals that power them up. Eventually, he turns against Eggman and decides to free the animals trapped inside his brothers. After the fight with Beta, Gamma realizes that he too is animal-powered, and that the Flicky he spared, Beta's Flicky, and Gamma's own Flicky are in the same family, and decides to die and release the Flicky held inside. This family reunion has got to be the most emotional moment in a Sonic game, and the high amounts of development and his lasting impressions make Gamma one of my favorite Sonic characters. Nega Eggman, or whatever you'd like to call him, was actually a pretty creative idea in the Sonic Games. We've learned in Sonic Rush that Blaze is part of a different world where ANOTHER person is trying to take over the world, Eggman Nega. This dude is WAY more evil than Eggman, in my opinion. While his personality is a bit shallow, and sometimes he was almost as annoying as Eggman himself, I think he was a pretty cool addition to the series. I kind of want to see a game with him, Blaze, and Silver all up and against him!
Omega's has an advanced processor and enough firepower to take out just about anyone in his way, and has all sorts of weapons like flamethrowers and missiles. Much like Gamma, Omega turned against Eggman, though out of revenge, and sets out on a mission to destroy all of Eggman's other robots. Omega has some neat abilities like hovering, parachutes, and strong punches that can bust through concrete. To be honest, while Omega has a good connection with Shadow and Rouge of Team Dark, I always felt like he was the most boring. In Sonic Heroes, every time the plot focused on him in some way, I just started yawning and shutting my eyes or just muting the television. He's a nice character and all, but he just starts to get irritating... like he's just a stone wall. It'd be awesome if the Sonic Team could turn that around, y'know? I believe every character has it's own place to shine! I mean, I still do love him, don't get me wrong. He was a clever addition for the "power" class for Sonic Heroes... and while his role in later games dwindle down to basically nothing, I kind of miss my robot friend.
Oh boy, it's the Jynx and Oil Man case all over again. Well, Jynx is decent in battling and I like her unique design. Oil Man has a cocky personality, has uses in speedrunning, and I like his design too. Rouge is a smart treasure hunter and I also like her design. I don't see the whole controversy in either one of these characters. Unlike most people, I was never really bothered by Rouge. Sure, she got a little TOO seductive at times, which did get annoying, but I didn't see her as a child's video game love life that much. Sure, it was obvious that was her MAIN ROLE in pretty much all games, she does have a saving grace. Being a jewel thief. I find that the banter between her and Knuckles both between the games and other media was awesome! She certainly had the echidna wrapped around her finger, and as much as he resisted, he just couldn't break free.
I think Charmy has recieved too much bashing. Think of the case with Slippy. Sure, Charmy is the one making trouble in the group, but that's to be expected from a six-year-old. He's also so strong that he can lift up a chameleon and a crocodile and still be able to fly. In addition, he's virtually fearless, and because of this, Vector thinks he can grow up to be a detective one day. Oh god, I love Charmy actually. While most people find him annoying, I find his heart is always in the right place... despite him not being there half the time. I see this little bee as comic relief for Chaotix, which, while usually is a cheap gimmick, I think Charmy fit the role well. I mean, his voice DID get annoying at times in games like Shadow the Hedgehod and Sonic Heroes... but I won't judge the little guy on that TOO hard.
Cream not only has an appearance that makes even Cirno jealous, but she isn't completely helpless. She can fly in the various games she's in, and even carry a fat cat and a hedgehog. Her main fighting style is using Cheese's powers to defend herself from enemy attacks, though she also has the power to heal or boost her allies. Oh my gosh, here comes cuteness! Cream is by far my favorite lady in the Sonic family! She's cute, she's shy, and I just want to... hug her all the time! I specifically remember wanted a plush of her when watching an episode of Sonic X. In the games, she was fun to use, despite only being playable in Sonic Heroes. Cream seemed a bit like a worrywart to me, but I love her ALL the same. The only reason I don't see her as number one is because other characters can top her, am I right?

5. Espio the Chameleon
Espio has to be the one character that definitely sounds the coolest. He's a ninja, and being a chameleon, he's able to camouflage through his surroundings. While the other two premiere members of Chaotix seem to be clumsy, Espio appears to be the most professional of the group and the most well-trained, not to mention that he has shurikens that are bigger than him that he seems to throw without any problem. Ninja by day... um, ninja by night! I LOVE Espio! He brought creative banter into the ever-overlooked Chaotix and I always felt like he was that one dude who just gets ALL the workload. It was sweet, and he had a likeable personality. However, similar to Blaze, I find him hollow. Sure, he can get the creative ball rolling, but Espio's own personality was pretty hollow. It seemed that he has to rely on other character's thoughts to even say something worth mentioning.

Vector is Team Chaotix's powerhouse, but that doesn't mean he's stupid, as he figured out that Eggman hired the Chaotix for his plans. He may be money crazy, but he's dependable and has a big heart and even bigger muscles. He can breathe fire and spit out explosive bubble gum bubbles. It's almost a tie between Charmy and Vector for me, sometimes. The dude is pretty funny, and his voice isn't as annoying as Charmy, even though sometimes he sounds like Wheezy from Toy Story. Vector is a terrible leader of Chaotix. Which I love! The only character who ever seems to notice is Espio, while Charmy follows obsequiously in Vector's shadow! Sure, he gets the job done, but HE doesn't even do it. Often times, Espio or Charmy save his butt at the last moment, which I just find hilarious! While we're never going to have any good plots for Sonic in a while, at least with lots of character dynamics, for a while, I pray that something will happen to my favorite crocodile. Also, let's not forget that he told us to find the computer room!
Now female characters in the Sonic franchise, aside from Amy, Cream, Rouge, and this next entry on this list, well, they've been less than stellar. Blaze says, "Screw that, I'm gonna show up and hold my own against the main character of the franchise." Blaze's personality is not that of your typical Sonic character. While most of the characters get along and seem to make friends without even trying, Blaze felt that she carried too much of a responsibility as a princess and the guardian of the Sol Emeralds to make any friends. As such, she tried to shut herself off from friendships and the reliance on others. She's a princess who puts her enemies in distress. She's sophisticated, strong, responsible, can be pretty fast, and has the ability to use fire. Blaze is always in the middle for me. She was a pretty cool character in the games she took a staring role in (Yes, even the dreaded Sonic '06) but I feel like she was always missing something. The cat always just seemed a bit hollow to me. I never saw her as that person who would be super serious all the time, and pretty much take no one's opinion under consideration... but that's just me. I can see reappearing sometime in the future with a slightly altered personality... but I kind of wish it was established like that in the beginning. Needless to say, Blaze was a proper fresh air to the franchise.
Silver: loved by some, despised by others. While he was responsible for one of the worst boss battles in history in 06, the Generations battle fixed this. His background of being a hedgehog from the future is one unique and interesting concept, and he can be quick to act, but he's good for me regardless. Silver was my favorite character until I recently found a love for another dude. He was a bit childish and immature, but I always felt like he was that lost puppy no one could say no to. I never found his voice irritating, probably because MY voice is a bit irritating, too. The main reason why people hate him is because he was in a bad game, which... yeah, I can agree with. But you can't just judge him because he was in a bad game! Silver... oh god, I just love him! If he were real, I'd wish he could be my friend... if he weren't a telekinetic, anthropomorphic, talking, silver, hedgehog of course.
So I'm sure many of you are wondering who can possibly be at #1 if it isn't Silver, and Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, and Metal Sonic are excluded from the list. Well, we've finally reached that time to reveal the character that beats the rest of the characters on this side of the list. That character is none other than... #1 FAVORITE
1. Shadow the Hedgehog
Shadow. I'm sure some of you were expecting this. Well, he's here at last. The master of Chaos Control who can stop time or teleport using a Chaos Emerald. His speed rivals that of Sonic, and not only does he have the same abilities as Sonic, but he shows some strength. He can also use the Chaos Spear that makes him look like he's shooting lightning bolts, and the devastating Chaos Blast. Shadow was a pretty cool rival to Sonic. He was much more powerful than our Cobalt speedster, but Sonic always pulled through. While sometimes, I get annoyed by the team always falling back on Maria, I still find him one of the best created characters out there. Shadow was so loved by the fans, he even got a game out there... that was subpar but still! The dude isn't like a emo "freak" as the haters of him refer to as, but I love him. I think Silver and Shadow are almost neck and neck, but I find Shadow just a bit better due to his frequent appearances in games that make it all the better! Why can't he be real?! I often judge a character in which how would I react if they suddenly became real, and Shadow, while he'd reject my offer, I would LOVE to be friends with him! Though my main reason why I like Shadow so much is the development he had in Sonic Adventure 2. He at first sought out revenge for Maria's death, but then he later learned that Maria's real wish is for everyone's happiness, and sacrificed himself to stop the ARK from crashing into the planet. Even though he suffered popularity recently, I still like him because I look forward for him to be as great as he used to be, as well as being one of Sonic's rivals that can actually hold his own against the Blue Blur. He's got so many abilities, an attitude that can't be matched, and will see his goals through the bitter end no matter what it takes, and these traits place Shadow at #1. I'm Jinx. I'm Sol. And Shadow is one character that leaves a huge impression on the both of us and will always live on in the legacy of Sonic. All Hail Shadow
