Top 13 SSBM Characters

I have decide to do my top 13 characters list for Super Smash Bros. Melee, I will judge them solely based on there moves and how efficiently players play with them. Be sure to leave an opinion and enjoy.

Coming at #13 Ganondorf is rank for his good reach and strong aerials. Although he is a captain falcon clone, his insane strength and good edgeguarding makes up for it. Ganandoft have disadvantages against fast characters because of his speed, most of his moves are very punishable and is hard to nail. His recovery is only good at horizontal but since his character model is so large (thus being so slow), he can easily be predicted and is vulnerable to edgeguarding and edgehoggers. In the offical Tier list, he is ranked 10.

Coming at #12 Mewtwo has a pretty staple gameplay, His greatest liability is his slow movement and his weight. Since Mewtwo is a light character, when in the air his falling time is somewhat floaty making him hard to maneuver in the air. Lucky Mewtwo have the third best wavedash in the game that can increase his mix-up options and pressuring, also he has a great teleport ability to get in the head of his opponent and is good for recovery. His down throw can lead to a tech chase or set up for a combo. In the Tier List, Mewtwo jumped from ranked 20 to 14 which means that he jumped 6 spots ahead. What a Great Comeback!

Coming at #11, Young Link is good for his wide-range projectiles and speedy gameplay. He has good recovery options although his Up-B is a bit predictable which is why players use his tether recovery often. He is a light character which means his killing percentage is at 80% so try not to take too much damage. His wavedash is better than his older self and last longer, his aerials are on par with many others having good knock-backs and fast speed on shielding. His dash attack can kill at high percentage, His down aerial can spike at the hilt of his sword and his down smash is a combo finisher. YL only problem is most of his moves are hard to nail and is the reason he's not ranked higher. Young Link is ranked 17th on the Tier list slightly below his original.

Hail at #10 Donkey Kong is known for his good poking and mid-range attacks. DK is given faster moves and agility as well as good recovery options. DK is also the 2nd Heaviest character on the game behind Bowser so he is a large target. he has exceptional speed despite his size and catches his foe off-guard on certain circumstances. His attacks are very strong but have slow startup times, he has above average dash speed, very fast air speed, fast falling speed, and a high intial jump. Since DK has a big frame, he have a small shield which entice shield stabbing. DK has a good amount of range but he lacks projectiles as well as having a sufficient defense against them. His Up-B cover good at horizontal distances but slack in vertical distances, this leave DK open for meteor smashes and spikes. His wavedash is ineffective but DK dashdances makes up for it. DK is 15th on the tier list mainly due to his good reach.

Coming at #9 Dr. Mario is known for his great combos and overall uniqueness as a character. Being very similar to his original but there are differences between them. Overall DRM is more powerful than his counterpart, his megavitamins is good for pressuring but move slower compare to other projectiles. His edgeguarding is increased due to his good back aerial, his wavedash is slightly weaker than luigi's. DRM has a chain grab which works on certain characters and his down throw lead to his forward air leads to a stable KO. DRM greatest weakness is his poor recovery, his super jump punch is very predictable and can be edgeguarded easily. His back throw is good for gimping kills when followed by edgejocking since it has a powerful knockback. Dr. Mario is ranked 9th on the tier list for his great set-ups and combos.

Sliding at #8 luigi is known for the longest wavedash in the game because of his traction. Luigi play style is similar to his brother but offers different knockbacks and trajectory. It's hard to maneuver on the ground so his wavedash cancels this out, he can now slide across the stage at intense speed thus being as fast as Falcon. Luigi is also known for his super jump punch and green missile which are both are very powerful attacks. Luigi can combo easily due to his floatiness and swift aerials, because of his small frame it is hard to combo on him. Luigi has a normally long recovery but it's also slow and predictable having slow air speed and falling speed. His side B notably is his best option beating out his down B tilting however there's a 12.5% of the green missile misfiring. This can be good in some ways as it can increase Luigi recovery and speed but be careful it can lead to a SD. Luigi back throw can lead into a quick gimp kill and is good for edgeguarding. Luigi is ranked 14th on the tier list due to his overall bad recovery and loses to chaaracters with more range, also has the worst matchup with Sheik.

Coming at #7 Roy is useful for his reach and strong attacks. Although he is Marth clone their play styles are different and is easy to pinpoint. Roy is more depending on his side smash and sometimes his neutral special to land KO's. Roy has fast falling speed makes him difficult to be KO of the top but it's easy to combo especially since he suffers long periods of hitstun. Roy has two meteor smashes but they are all difficult to use effectively, overall Roy ground attacks can easily be spammed in order to juggle his foes and edgeguard if efficient enough. Roy has a insane counter and is the most powerful in the game, since it multiplies damage by 1.5 but it is harder to nail than Marth and leaves you open. Roy down tilt a good combo starter but its hard to hit opponents due to his attacks having low hitstun. Most of his moves have more knockback when tipped but do more damage if they hit his sweetspot. Roy can chain-grab some characters using his up and forward smash, he also has a fast dash-dance more so he lacks a projectile and his horizontal recovery is poor in general. Roy is ranked 19th due to having many openings and failing to escape chain-grabs, also having to get in close for killing.

Kissing in at #6 Peach is a very constant hitting character one must be prepare for her character-specific techniques. Peach is known for her float cancal her vegetable (turnip) attack as well as her down smash. These three techniques makes her a deadly and unique are mandatory for high tier gameplay. She has good recovery, outstanding aerial game, good ground movement, and overall good moves. Some flaws can be spot (lacks a meteor smashes and dash speed being a tall floaty character) stop her from being top tier. Peach well-known feats are her incredible horizontal recovery with fast air speed, a second long jump, the ability to float, and her Peach Bomb to horizontal distance. Her up-B cover good at horizontal distances as well, she has great air game because she has little lag for aerials with float cancels and is capable of double jump canceling, allowing for very quick ground aerials. Peach is also able to chain-grab fast fallers with her up throw from around 40% to 100% damage. She have a very short wavedash when it comes to KOing her foes, her forward throw is powerful. Peach is ranked 6th in the tier list due for having good tools in any situations and overall formidable moves.

Slashing in at #5 Marth is known for his range and speedy attacks. Marth is mostly rely on his edgeguarding for KO's, unlike Roy Marth have sweetspot for at the tip of his blade that increase knock-backs if it connects while his attacks are weaker if the middle of the sword connects instead. Marth can also combo both fast fallers and floaty characters, has a decent wavedash, great shield, and good a dash-dance. If sweetspotted, Marth down aerials is fast powerful spike although it does have lots of ending and landing lag, which means it is punishable if missed or not L-canceled. Math has the longest non-teither grab in the game, which gives him a chain grab on the star fox characters. Marth does lack in projectiles  and he can also breaks most projectiles using his side smash, but this does not work on certain ones (Fox Blaster, Links Boomerang). Marth versatility allows players to easily KO their opponents at very low percentages, a key difference between Roy and him in terms of power, which is why is he placed higher on the tier list. Marth is ranked 5th on the tier list to his excellent speed and power when tipped attack are landed.

Transforming at #4 Sheik is a very elusive character with swift attacks. She has amazing speed but lack power and is vulnerable to being crouch cancelled. Power isn't necessary with players play with Sheik because as her opponents damage percent climbs higher, her knockbacks increase ten fold. To add on with her agility, she has one of the best projectiles in the game because not only its quick to charge she can save her needles  and continue charging whenever she sees fit. Her needles can also neutralize opponents projectiles especially Samus Charge Shot and Mewtwo Shadow Ball, also the needles has hitstun which brings a good edgeguarding game. To top that off she has a needle canceling to increase her pressuring and mix-ups options. Her side-B act as a teither recovery but is almost useless for attacking because of the low hitstun, it is also good for edgeguarding against characters like Fox and Falco. She has one of the fastest wavesdashes in the game, and her dodging ability is unusually low which can easily dodge projectiles. Her recovery is good considering that it has a large number of invincibility frames and damages enemies around her due to the explosion. Sheik is ranked 4th on the tier list because of her elusive playstyle and has one of the best projectiles in the game.

Spinning in at #3 Jigglypuff is known for its great recovery and fast aerials. it along with Mr. Game&Watch is the lightest characters in the game which stops it from being higher in the ranking. Jigglypuff has the slowest dash speed in the game while having the highest air speed and the lowest falling speed. Players often spend their time in the air because it has five midair jumps, and good aerials mobility due to the well-known falling speed and high air speed. Since it has five midair jumps, its speciality is to have very long recovery and great edgeguarding tactics. Its neutral B isn't useful because if players are not careful they can self-destruct pretty easily. its side B has little to no range but its good for recovery. its up B can put enemies to sleep but is completely useless when foes are at low damage as they can easily wake up and punish it before the move ends. Its down B can instantly kill an opponent and has very low range and leaves it open if it miss. its down B is one of the fastest move in the game and provides invincibility frames until its closes its eyes. Jigglypuff biggest weakness are its poor range and extremely low weight while good for a character for its size, to add on it is also floaty. Jigglypuff is ranked 3rd in the tier list mainly due to its sleep and good recovery plus having good aerials for combos.

Jogging in at #2 Falco is known for his great technical ability he offers to players. Falco is also known for stealing the gameplay of Fox in super smash bros. He also has the second fastest normal falling speed and the fastest falling speed, this means he has resistance to juggling, is hard to hit in the air and can shield well. He has some noticeable flaws as his recovery is shorter than Fox's and is vulnerable to combos/chaingrabs that works on fast fallers otherwise he can chain grab floaties. Falco has a excellent short hop makes him very good at combos and short hop lasers. His short hop can scare players from chasing him and is good for pressuring. Falco also has the hightest initial jump, the ability to wall jump, and a very effective down aerial spike. Being similar to Fox, Falco is lightweight and has very poor recovery and also have the slowest air speed. His up B is very easy to edgeguard, due to its large start-up lag and linear nature. His side B is difficult shorten consistently, but is faster at recovery than Fox. Falco is 2nd ranked in the tier list because of his good ability to combo and having arguable the best projectile in the game.

Running in at #1 Fox is known for overwhelming his opponent with his unmatched speed and constant attacks. in equality with Falco, Fox offers extreme technical ability that players are able to use to there advantage. All of Fox attributes does not compare to that of his speed, making it imperative to have quick fingers and reflexes to match. Players most focus on his shines (down B) and his fast aerials because if not executed properly Fox will be open to any opponents grabs which brings chain throws and combos. Fox has the second fastest dashing speed just behind Marth and tied with Marth for the fastest walking speed. Fox fall fast and low, has fast short hops contributed to an extremely quick L-canceling. Fox has high-damage and flexible combos including several infinite combos (waveshine infinite), When it comes to killing, Fox can kill his foes with his insanely stong up smash and his shine spikes are deadly against the majority of the cast. Projectiles are render useless against Fox because of his reflector (which is tied with Jigglypuff Rest Technique). Fox Blaster can stack up damage easily but it do not cause flinch so the foes can easily punish fox if not used correctly. Fox has a variety of pressuring including SHDL/SHDB approaches, SHFFL'd aerials, and a excellent wavedash. Fox recovery can be caped or edgeguarded due to his predictable nature of his Fire Fox, and Fox illusion is less efficient than Falco's. Fox is ranked 1st on the tier list due to his overpowering offense.
