Is it possible for us to start a Nintendo Letterbox Stationary Exchange Service? You see, my Pikachu 3ds XL when doing a data transfer from my old one made me lose everything on it since I messed it up and transferred from new to old, rather than the right way. So one of the things I lost besides Streetpass Data and Ambassador games was my Letterbox Stationary. Is it possible for us to add friend codes and exchange them with eachother?

In case you guys haven't done so already, update your Swapnote for on-the-fly recording and photo insertion, and filtering your messages by sender :3

...the pen seems to be a little different as well for some odd reason

@Mareep - the idea sounds good, after all I know that sometimes I've given others stationery which might have been region specific when it first came out and such

Bad news for everyone. Swapnote has been discontinued/disabled indefinitely for all regions. This topic does not serve a purpose anymore until further notice (of which I doubt).

Thank you for your support.

Nintendo has learned that some consumers, including minors, have been exchanging their friend codes on Internet bulletin boards and then using Swapnote (known as Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) to exchange offensive material. Nintendo has been investigating ways of preventing this and determined it is best to stop the SpotPass feature of Swapnote because it allows direct exchange of photos and was actively misused.

Nintendo always wants to provide a positive experience for all consumers and limit the risk of any inappropriate activity or misuse of a service. We feel it is important on this occasion to take this action.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience to the many consumers who have been using this service responsibly; however this decision was made considering the point that many minors also use this feature of Swapnote. Thank you for your understanding.

Nintendo will continue to work to ensure more consumers are aware of our Parental Control features, which allow parents to manage their children's experience on our systems. For more information, please click here.

Service stop date: Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, 7 p.m. PT
Service being stopped: Nintendo 3DS software Swapnote - Sending and receiving notes using SpotPass
Affected regions: All regions where the service was offered
Special Notes services are also stopped

It's worthless to me now.

Dang it, tried to send a final message, it's already in effect.

I wonder if Nintendo is aware of Miiverse. :p
It would be something quite bad if they would do so with Miiverse as well! Probably the only actual thing about "communicating with others" on the Wii U! Already that for the 3DS, it's starting to be quite difficult for communications anyways. It would remove so much of the actual good things on the Wii U without that so better letting that, right?

Thing is, Swapnote does not have any kind of moderation, unlike Miiverse. It'd be hard for the same thing to happen with Miiverse now, but there's no way of sharing offensive content, through images/pictures, of course. Written content and messages that can be deemed as inappropriate are likely to be deleted right away, since the moderation on Miiverse is heavily enforced.

Yeah, and I guess that Miiverse is way more developped for those kind of things anyways, so if it's headed on the 3DS like it's supposed to be, I guess it would be good.

But by then, if it's actually supposed to use our "Nintendo Network ID", does this mean that this said ID will have to be needed to interact on the 3DS one of these days or to still keep friend codes? (Because I guess it might be something hard to implement? And what about current friends on the 3DS?)

Because I guess friend codes are still a good idea even if some aren't agreed for some reasons to not being always sticked with an username and it was easier to get more friends to being added in games.

Just got the note via Spotpass myself (That's right, you broke it first); this is a real downer; a real shame everyone had to be punished(Why not just take away the photo feature?), but the main thing is, I don't think I can ever look at that blue light the same way again, especially when Nintendo has something nice to say. Somehow, my YoL note is still sending in StreetPass, which, not to take this further, could potentially be even more horrific for spreading of inappropriate content.

You're looking at the right loner; I've wrote everything from holidays (YoL included) to specific greetings for events and received absolutely nothing. Zero notes from anyone, even when I went to Best Buy during E3, no one gave back, but the worst part of that is, the absence of Swapnote in the StreetPass notification leaves me to wonder if my little handwritten letters of joy are even reaching them.

They probablly didn't since they didn't have the StreetPass feature enabled for Swapnote. Almost no one does that.

Update: Now here's why Nintendo stopped SpotPass for Swapnote:

Go Nintendo said:
- two men have been arrested
- they were alledgedly performing "improper acts" in hotel rooms with a 12 year-old girl
- this happened multiple times
- the men are aged 49 and 36
- this was facilitated through the 3DS
- child pornography charges have also been filed against another man, 44
- he allegedly had an 11 and 12 year old girls send him nude pictures through Swapnote
- other men have been charged with statutory rape and indecency through compulsion

Ah, so we now know why. That kind of work was really unacceptable. Good thing Nintendo stopped it, and the two men got arrested.

Because some kids these days are just plain stupid.
...also Nintendo needs better parental controls on that thing, as I've read from that article.

Still, sucks that people (the older men) like them would do that.
I hate people like that.
