8. Spring Mushroom

It was fun to play as Spring Mario.
First appearing in Super Mario Galaxy and then Super Mario Galaxy 2,
the Spring Mushroom is a very rare item.

7. Wing Cap

Only in Super Mario 64 and its remake Super Mario 64 DS, the Wing Cap was one of the more constantly seen power-ups in the game. But aside from those games it has never been an another Mario game.

6. Boomerang Flower

Did a great job in Super Mario 3D Land.
It replaced the Hammer Suit in Super Mario 3D Land possibly because Pom Pom threw them as well.

5. Penguin Suit

Take that cooligan!
It first appeared in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and made Mario able to shoot ice and do a belly slide into enemies. In New Super Mario Bros. U it was in challenge mode.

4. Cape Feather

Let's take a flight!
Only in Super Mario World and its ports and remakes, the Cape Feather allowed Mario or Luigi to glide down from the sky. If they ran really fast it would allow Mario to fly high for a short period of time.

3. Super Acorn

Glide down from the sky.
Only in New Super Mario Bros. U, the Super Acorn allowed Mario to glide down from the sky and take a short lift into the sky. There was also a P-Acorn that allowed Mario to fly relentlessly through the level.

2. Starman

Let's knock out that Goomba!
First appearing in Super Mario Bros. the Starman has been in every Super Mario game with two exceptions being Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. The star allows Mario to be invincible for a short period of time.

Let's shoot that Paratroopa down!
Like the Starman it's in every Super Mario game except 64 and Sunshine.
It's even an item in Mario Kart 7.
The flower allows Mario to shoot fireballs at enemies.
Possibly the most common item in the Mario series (aside from the mushroom).
