[Luma Party]

R.O.B. originally named HVC-012 in Mario Kart DS

HVC-012 was the original name for R.O.B. in all regions and not just Japan.
He had nothing to do with the R.O.B. accessory except he had some resemblance to it
(and the NES control pad on the front of the kart).
In the final version of the game he was named R.O.B. in all regions except Japan.
In Japan he was more red and named HVC-012.
You may come across him in WFC or even time trials when he is HVC-012 the staff and expert staff ghost in Desert Hills and Rainbow Road in every version of the game.
He is unlocked after obtaining gold trophies on 150cc Mirror Mode Cups (Nitro or Retro).

Petey Piranha, Paratroopa and Hammer Bro. originally playable in Mario Kart Wii

The trio were originally meant to be playable in it.
Petey and Paratroopa were in Mario Kart Double Dash!
Hammer Bro. was never playable in the Mario Kart series.

Professor E. Gadd originally in Mario Kart DS

Originally E. Gadd was meant to be playable in Mario Kart DS.
A file called "oyama" was found as that is E. Gadd's Japanese name.
The Poltergust 4000 was found with E. Gadd's emblem on it.
E. Gadd was replaced by Dry Bones in the final version of the game.
Birdo may have been intended be playable because an alternative pink Egg 1 kart was found.

I really wish they bring back Petey Piranha into Mario Kart because she was awesome. And I hope E Gadd will be in Mario Kart Wii U and I wish he was in Mario Kart DS. Then I'd use him all the time. I had no idea they were going to put Paratroopa and Hammer Bro in Mario Kart Wii but I don't think Hammer Bro needs to be playable if Koopa is their. Their pretty much the same person except one had a helmet and hammer

Oh yeah forgot Petey is a girl in some places.
E. Gadd would be a favourite for me.
And you are right Hammer Bro. is just basically a Koopa Troopa with a helmet and hammer.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Beta Elements

Originally there was a chicken suit to be included but it was replaced by the penguin suit.

The original way of getting a Propeller Suit.

The original design for the roulette block was replaced by this:

The fire toads were originally designed with their respective colours and white spots on their caps.

Giant Buzzy Bettles were originally included in the game.

Red Yoshi and Blue Yoshi were originally included but were replaced by Pink and Light Blue Yoshi.

The Mega Mushroom was originally included but was scrapped so to the multiplayer screen problems.

Princess Peach was originally playable but was scrapped because of her dress modelling problem.

The Midway Flag originally had a skull on it but was replaced by a Bowser emblem.

Many other objects were originally ment to be included.

Bowser Jr. may have been playable in Mario Party 9.
Or at least a rival in solo mode.

Yoshi's Story Beta Elements

Yoshi's Island 64 was the working title as the game was a planned sequel to Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Originally Brown and Purple Yoshi's were seen in early footage but were unused for an unknown reason.

Bone dragons were supposed to be purple and fleshy and more vibrant rather than bony and undead.

Giant Shy Guys resembling Fat Guys were going to appear but never did.

Flowers were going to be in but for some reason didn't make the final version of the game.

Yoshi was originally going to make sounds like in Super Mario World but in the end he didn't.

Mario & Sonic at he Olympics Games was going to have multiple other characters playable

Birdo as seen here was going to be included, he/she/it's nose was messed up in this image which may have been the reason he/she/it was not playable.

Donkey Kong was going to be playable here, there are no known reason why he wasn't but was eventually playable in the next game.

An Egg Pawn was originally going to be playable as well, it is assumed he was not due to it not fitting in with other characters.

Jet was going to be playable.
There is also no known reason why he was not playable in this.

Silver the Hedgehog was going to be playable.
He was in the intro but for some reason was not included, he ended up playable in the next game.

A Goomba was going to be playable oddly.
It was scrapped due to having no arms.

With other information found, Rouge the Bat and Cream the Rabbit were to be playable as well.

Rouge and Cream would have been fun to play as, but sadly, they didn't end up being playable back then. Still, nice to see Cream at least show up as a non-playable character in that game. She still serves as a non-playable character in all future games, but is it possible she will be playable in the upcoming Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games?

Beta information are always fun to investigate, but sometimes it's a shame that some elements that appeared to be interesting had to be scrapped.

They would have been fun.
With Cream having hosted London Party, I think it is unlikely she will be playable, but Jet has a good chance.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Beta Elements

This is an early version of Starship Mario.
It looks more like Mario rather than Luigi in which the final version looked like.

This scan page shows what is described as a "Lakitu Cloud Mario".
Cloud Mario in the final version would only be able to create three temporary clouds rather than flying in one.

The Dash Pepper was originally called the Dash Fruit.
When using it, it originally did not make the player glow or leave a trail.

The Tall Trunk Galaxy's slide originally was its own galaxy.

The switch in the Cosmic Cove Galaxy was originally on this wooden platform.

This is an early version of the Sky Island Galaxy.

Yoshi was going to be in the Cloudy Court Galaxy as shown here, but he ended up not being in it.

The early comet medal had no eyes.

Since Whomp King is face down when defeated, you cannot see his face, but this is what it would look like.

Giga Lakitu is seen here looking more peaceful without his glasses, during the boss battles he wears them all the time.

Early Diggas looked more like bullet bills.

This unused P texture similar to that of the P-Balloon was found and called "Magic Balloon Fruit".

Super Mario 3D World Beta Elements

As seen in the concept artwork, the Cat forms had the normal human hands with gloves, and Peach's brooch was incorporated into her Cat Form.
