"Video games can never be art" says Roger Ebert
« on: January 09, 2011, 02:47:09 PM »
http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2010/04/video_games_can_never_be_art.html

Yeah, I know the article is kind of old. It seems that one of the most beloved film critics of all time believes that video games can never be art. Do you agree or disagree?

They're for entertainment, not for art.

Yes but art can be entertainment as well.. See art is all opinions. What someone thinks is art is always the exact opposite of someone else. So I don't see how Ebert can just automatically label video games..

If I had a dime for every gamer that says that video games are a form of art, I'd be rich. In my opinion, the jury's still out on this one.

Umm...yeah. Video games are for entertaining purposes basically. Though, I can sometimes call things that are in the video game art, but I wouldn't in an entirely call video games art.

Video game's graphic, story and music, I think that can be consider as art even if it's main purpose is for entertainment.

Graphics = Computer Animation which is a form of art.

Plus, look at all of the promotional art and box art. That's something.

Everything is art. Anyone who doesn't think that should be tossed into the Dundrum Oubliette, cooked on a barbecue and served to the Argentinian government. Okay, that might be a slight exaggeration, but, you get the idea.

Video games are just for the people who never want to think there is more than life. Basically, it's not art, it's just an awesome boredom breaker.
