Mario Party 3 Netplay(Sometimes 2)
« on: June 13, 2014, 11:09:58 PM »
Today I found my copies of Mario Party 1, 2, and 3. I wanted to play them with others but couldn't find anyone.

Then I remembered the magical world of emulators and netplay...

Anyway, if you want to play online with me or your friends, you'll need a program called Hamachi. You can download the installer for it here: http://download.cnet.com/LogMeIn-Hamachi/3000-2651_4-10605260.html

When you're done installing it or if you happen to already have it and open the program, click "Join existing network..."
And put NetplayNetworkHamachi. If that is full add a 2 to the end. I've made about five networks just in case.(So basically NetplayNetworkHamachi2-5. One has no number at the end.)

When you're connected to one of the networks I made, you'll(obviously) need a N64 emulator, Use Project64. If you don't have it, go here: http://www.pj64-emu.com/

Set your configuraton for your contoller or if you have a adapter you can simply plug in your N64 controller. When that is done, go to "Options" and then "Settings..." And set the Input to AQZ Netplay.

Hopefully you have the roms. Just go look them up, because I can't post rom links.

When you've done everything above, open Mario Party(Whichever one is stated in the Hamachi Networks) and a new window will open. Set your name using /name (Name) and then do /connect (IP) (Port). I will give connection information over Hamachi.

Then, we can finally play Mario Party. I've made a few rules just in case:

1. No rageing. Self explanatory. Don't go yelling if you lose at some minigame or if someone gets the star before you do. it's Mario Party, the game that ruins friendships(Which is probably why I don't have anyone to play it with in the first place...)

2. Behave. If you're continuously causing trouble, I will kick you from the game and the networks.

...And I think that is it. If i'm in the middle of the game, play with others there. The host will have to do /server port. They can type in any number as long if it's not over 9999. The IP will be over whatever username you typed in when you installed Hamachi.

Well, that's really it this time. See you on the networks.

I thought you didn't need Hamachi for N64 netplay since Kaillera or something...?

Well, there is a certain other kind of netplay, but this one in my experience works better. I use Hamachi because i'm a idiot when it comes to port forwarding.

He uses a global server or a P2P play. I play MP1, MP2, MP3 online. I played it with Honey Bunches, SZ, and Yoshiman. Before me and SZ and Yoshiman had a good ol game. (I won of course)

Hm. Well, if you have time maybe we can play a game? And also, when I used Kaillera the game always desyncs(aka The game is not the game on all players). Through the method i'm using, it doesn't seem to desync at all.

Hey, when I try to join the first network it says a password is required and 2-5 say that it doesn't exist. Can you please help me with this?

Oh, I deleted all of the networks. We can play on a kaillera server using Mupen if you'd like.

Nintendo 64 kaillera is a bit iffy, so that is something you have to expect.

Here's an update: Instead of Hamachi and PJ64 AQZ, use Mupen64++ with Kaillera. The game may desync, but with experience with my friend brady23 desyncs are often rare with Mupen when you find the correct server.

"Error uncompressing save data! Desync detected!"

You and your friend's save files are not the same. There are three solutions to this.
1. Delete your MP saves. Beware that anything saved in your MP data in Mupen will be gone forever.
2. Download a master save(100% everything) and replace/move it with your save files and make sure your friend does the same.
3. If you really like your save, make a copy and upload it to some site and have your friend download it.

"Player is lagged: (User)"

You disconnected from your friend and you are now seeing different games. Drop from the game and restart. A solution to this is to make sure the game saves every turn so you can resume from wherever.

"Where can I find a server?"

In your server list, press the "Master Servers List" button and it will start to look for Kaillera servers. Find a server that is both near you and your friend so there won't be much lag. Or just look one up specifically.

"I can't connect to a server."

The server is either shut down, down for maintenance, or your connection is very low(In this case just wait a while for it to come back.). Have a backup server ready in case this happens.

"How do I make my own server?"

Have fun.

Ok, well after a while of playing I've gotten sick of the AI. It sucks. There are times where they one coin duel us or go the opposite way of the star when they have enough coins to buy it. Does anyone want to play a game of Mario Party 3 with me, brady23, and Spongyoshi?

But my first question is: How powerful of a PC would I need? Being N64...it wouldn't need to be too powerful...right?

It won't need to be too powerful. I've played online on a old Windows XP.
